All these "investments" are pretty much pie in the sky, or as the old saying goes - "A fool and his money are soon parted".
FWIW the magic number for solar is 2 watts per sq. ft. or 20 watts per sq. meter. Thats all the power you will get day in and day out if you are lucky and everything is up to spec.
As for SolarCity, it is only a matter of time before the fraud lawsuits start flying. No matter what the contract may actually say, the lo-fo voters sitting on the jury will hand out cash like a runaway slot machine.

From Venture Capital to Venture Ticks - the poor, little rich guys made their billions, felt guilty and decided that fleecing the taxpayer in the name of Greeness would absolve them of their sins.
Go back to just making some decent products with private money and leave the poor taxpayer alone.

The solar vision still lives within the white house. Government money will still be made available. Our Dear Leader has said solar is the way to go, and our government and tax $$ will make it so.

When the government gets involved the intellectual assets become owned by the government. When a private consortium was nearing success on a human genome project, President Clinton declared that no patents would be allowed on human DNA. Billions in private capital fled the market. Duhh.

LOL! Time to wake up and realize that all the ´alternate energy´ added together is about the same as the roundoff error when calculating the total power used by this country. It is not econimcally sensible as a primary power source almost anywhere.
I have a house with 100% solar electricity in a remote area where there is a lot of sun and electric power would have been EXTREMELY expensive to have run. It makes sense there, but all the serious loads, including the refrigerator, have been moved to propane. Only things that HAVE TO be electric are electrified. This works, but is entirely uneconomic anywhere that mains power is available.
I´m glad to see that this is finally soaking in.
The pathetic truth about electric cars will eventually be common knowledge, again.

I was at NAS North Island the other day and noticed a row of huge, gimbal-mounted solar arrays taking up valuable space on the carrier piers. Then I noticed that similar arrays had popped up throughout the base. Same thing at MCAS Miramar - acres of solar panels, everywhere. An indirect pouring of even more tax dollars into the industry.

Treasury Secretary Jack Lew on Friday urged congressional leaders to raise the debt limit and insisted that the White House is not going to negotiate over the increase because lawmakers have "no choice." "We will not negotiate over the debt limit," Lew wrote. "The creditworthiness of the United States is non-negotiable. The question of whether the country must pay obligations it has already incurred is not open to debate." House Oversight Committee Chairman Darrell Issa (R-Calif.) formally demanded that retired ambassador Thomas Pickering submit to being deposed by the committee next Thursday. The subpoena comes in the wake of a series of acrimonious public exchanges this week between the two men. A healthcare provider has sued the Internal Revenue Service and 15 of its agents, charging they wrongfully seized 60 million medical records from 10 million Americans. The name of the provider is not yet known, United Press International said. But Courthouse News Service said the suit claims the agency violated the Fourth Amendment in 2011, when agents executed a search warrant for financial data on one employee – and that led to the seizure of information on 10 million, including state judges. The search warrant did not specify that the IRS could take medical information, UPI said.
