NY Dem warns sequester will crush
hope of medical breakthroughs

The Hill [Washington, DC], by Pete Kasperowicz

Original Article

Posted By:KarenJ1, 2/25/2013 3:02:29 PM

Rep. Carolyn Maloney (D-N.Y.) said Sunday that the sequester could cut millions of dollars in healthcare research in New York, which she said would lead to both job cuts in her state and less research into life-saving medical technologies. "I urge House leadership to avoid triggering a sequestration of federal funding that will impose draconian cuts to the research and development programs that are our hope for the future," Maloney said Sunday. "I am determined to join colleagues in both parties and both houses of Congress to prevent our nation from being forced into this entirely manufactured fiscal crisis."

Comments:
Uh huh. Replace ´sequester´ with ´0bamacare´ and you will have a truthful statement. Get rid of all the unnecessary federal employees we have. Better yet, repeal 0bamacare. Problem solved.

"Draconian" cuts. What balderdash. There aren´t any cuts--merely a slight drop-in-the-bucket reduction in the rate of growth. The best thing the GOP could do is let the sequester happen.

Where in the Constitution is the authority to fund life saving medical research? If its a good idea, someone will fund it for the profit potential. Only the government doesn´t worry about a profit.

Do you want to know what will "impose draconian cuts to the R&D programs" in medical technology? The medical device tax. How do I know? I worked in the industry and was on the 7 member Healthcare Reform team for our billion dollar company. Our company just terminated over half of the engineers in our R&D and Innovations divisions. Why? Because there won´t be enough profit (Obama´s dirty word) left over to fund new projects. These are the facts of Obamacare, something that Rep. Maloney was a cheerleader for.

I don´t know what their motivation is:
1. If it´s deliberate destruction of healthcare so that they can impose single-payer, government monopoly on healthcare or
2. If its stupidity, or
3. Both.

Obama has so many puppets to speak through that he may have to open a string factory, using tax-payer dollars, of course. I expect that is environmentally friendly. No fear of carbon in string.

It´s malfeasance and hatred of this country #12. Maloney and the rest are being sent out to set up the narrative for the morons who now determine elections. They will never know that Obamacare killed the medical device industry. They will blame sequestration and the Republicans because that is what John Stewart and the pop-up ads tell them.

One of the few laws of political science is that when governments make mistakes, they tend to be whoppers. Luckily for them, the public’s memory is short, and the outrage of today soon declines into the apathy of tomorrow. From several articles published in a recent edition of the British Medical Journal, it appears that many governments around the world, including those of Britain and the US, may have made such a mistake in stockpiling billions of dollars’ worth of anti-flu medications, bought principally from Roche, the largest pharmaceutical company in the world as measured by capitalization. First the governments overestimated the

Conservative leader and Catholic L. Brent Bozell III today blasted Rep. Nancy Pelosi (D-Calif.) for mimicking the pope´s Holy Week foot-washing tradition while touting her immigration reform legislation: "I am a Catholic and I am offended at Minority Leader Pelosi´s continued abuses of the Catholic Church´s teachings and traditions. As a Catholic who has watched Ms. Pelosi champion one anti-Catholic cause after another, I believe this to be sacrilegious. "Christ taught the washing of the feet as an act of utter humility, while she turned a sacred religious tradition into a grandstanding political publicity stunt.

Your friendly neighborhood columnist has once again run afoul of Facebook’s elusive community standards. Now before you call up the preacher and put me on the church prayer list – let me assure the posting was neither unseemly nor ungentlemanly. This time I was censored for writing something about Rancher Cliven Bundy. I realized I had landed in the Facebook gulag when I tried to post our daily Bible verse. However, I was unable to post anything because Facebook had taken great offense to something I had written. “We removed something your page posted,” Facebook told me in a rather unpleasant message.

President Obama addressed the White House press corps today, announcing that with the final numbers in, Obamacare´s exchanges have attracted eight million sign-ups -- 35 percent of whom are "under the age of 35," he said. Several elements of his comments were misleading: (1) At first blush, the 35 percent stat is both significant and impressive. As recently as last month, the share of "young invincibles" signing up for plans was struggling in the 25 percent range, far short of the actuarial target of nearly 40 percent. Rep. Colleen Hanabusa (D-HI) says her constituents are "frustrated and embarrassed" by Hawaii´s failed Obamacare exchange, which cost taxpayers $204 million and signed up only 8,000 people. Nearly half of American voters think the IRS targeted conservative groups at the request of the White House, and most want Congress to keep investigating the matter. The latest Fox News poll also finds 69 percent don’t feel President Obama has followed through on his vow to “find out exactly what happened on this.” By a 49-41 percent margin, voters believe the Obama administration “intentionally had the IRS target conservative political groups.” That includes 26 percent of Democrats, 52 percent of independents and 71 percent of Republicans. Meanwhile, 67 percent of voters want Congress to keep investigating the IRS until

When it comes to tracking the cost of Obama family vacations, there are two primary challenges. First, the Obamas are prolific jet-setters, so there are many details to track. Second, the Obama administration, clearly embarrassed by these lavish and frequent family vacations, stonewalls the release of records at every turn. But we have been relentless in pursuit of this information. Our attorneys file the lawsuits and make our case, and our investigators pour through pages of records and crunch the numbers. And the information we’ve uncovered – information that would otherwise remain under lock and key – shows that the

I live in Las Vegas. I live and breath Nevada politics. Something is very wrong. Something smells rotten in the Nevada desert. And Senator Harry Reid’s fingerprints are all over it. I am of course referring to the Bundy Ranch siege. This was a dispute between a Nevada ranching family with rights to the land in question for 140 years and the BLM (Bureayu of Land Management). The government claims they haven’t paid grazing fees for 20 years. The result was a government assault on the ranch- including snipers with assault rifles, SUV’s, helicopters, airplanes and over 200 heavily armed troops. No

Though the story has only grabbed national headlines in the past several days, rancher Cliven Bundy has illegally grazed cattle on the Nevada land surrounding his farm for over 20 years. He hasn’t paid grazing fees since 1993, and refuses to renew the necessary grazing permit.(Snip)Rather than using the avenues and pathways presented to him, Bundy has staunchly declared his own law and allegiances.
