If the Brits can eat horsemeat, what´s wrong with venison? Isn´t venison on the menu in many 4-star restaurants?

I guess letting them folks go hungry or panhandle or mug others is a far more desirable outcome, eh legislators? Won´t blame bureaucrats, just lawmakers!

This is nothing more than the ongoing killing of charity,or moreover, killing Judeo-Christian values. If the government can kill God in the hearts and minds of the populace, then government can continue to try to fill the void.

This is a really stupid regulation. Probably happened because union slug meat cutters didn´t get a piece of the action.

“Deer meat is not permitted to be served in a shelter, restaurant or any other public eating establishment in Louisiana,” said a Health Dept. official in an email to Fox News. “While we applaud the good intentions of the hunters who donated this meat, we must protect the people who eat at the Rescue Mission, and we cannot allow a potentially serious health threat to endanger the public.”

Wait a minute, venison is not allowed to be served in ANY restuarant? And it´s a health threat? To who? Homeless folks who routinely eat from dumpsters and sleep outside?

I believe the real reason is it is not procured through the government systems (read kickbacks) and no union hands touch it...

The math indicates venison is only worth $5 a pound. I would be willing to pay twice that and eat it rather than beef!

The law says they must eat "food" that is made of fillers, preservatives, pink slime, growth hormone, antibiotics (from farm animals being engorged with them), genetically modified ingredients, pestitcides, weed killers, is devoid of any "real" nutritional value, and will make you sick if you eat it for any length of time, after which you will die.

But NO VENISON!!!

Venison is low fat and nutritious. There is no valid reason for this restriction.

I just watched an Iron Chef rerun this weekend and the main course of the defending Iron Chef was elk meat. Good thing he wasn´t a homeless guy....

I grew up in a rural area of West Virginia where the meat on the table was more often than not wild game--thanks to the hunting skills of family members.

Deer meat steak resulted in a great meal. My mother mixed ground deer meat with ground pork to make "deerburgers" which were also quite popular.

The government ruins everything, and discourages self-reliance.

It´s because the meat has not been inspected by the USDA, thereby opening the shelters to legal liability in event someone gets a parasite or two. I wonder if the shelters also turn down the overabundance of neighborhood gardens? No quality control there, either.

Wonder if they have laws governing the ´potentially serious health threat´ the homeless present while urninating and defecating in on our sidewalks and in our parks? I know - that´s mean.

This is a ridiculous waste. This makes me think of the time I undermined a controlling office manager by bringing back a BIG bunch of office supplies from a seminar I attended. Pens, felt markers & legal pads were left over by a client - nothing wrong with it & some of it unused. The old broad went around & threw out everything I brought back. When I found out, I demanded to know why she was so wasteful. She would not look me in the eye & mumbled something about the pens possibly being too dry. The real reason? She like keeping office supplies locked up & she wanted everybody to ask her when they needed something - JUST LIKE our government!
