Obama’s sour economy prompts would-be
immigrants to drop their dream

Americans, as the well-known center of the human universe, at least in American eyes, are accustomed to thinking of their country as obviously the most desirable destination of any for immigrants seeking to leave troubled lands and/or find a bright new future somewhere else. Well, here´s an unexpected wrinkle. After 49 months of the Obama administration, a new poll out this morning reveals that the same percentage of Americans would like to move to another country as, say, Mexicans would like to move to the United States.

We vacationed in Puerto Rico last month and all the while, I found myself looking at it with an eye towards moving there . I can maintain my citizenship but US income taxes are ´voluntary´. The natives are fluent in English, they use the dollar and drive on the correct side of the road. All duly noted.

So why are they still coming here? My grandson has rented his condo to one of them.

Rich people throw better parties.

Way better.

Glad we don´t have THAT problem any more.

Cloudy with a 100% chance of scandals:
Obama ducks and weaves

Another awkward day in the unraveling presidency of Barack Obama. Beset by a trio of profound scandals, the Democrat planned Thursday´s message on foreign affairs through a joint news conference with Turkey´s Prime Minister Erdogan, a NATO ally. Unfortunately, Obama´s advance staff was apparently too busy preparing his next campaign stops to check the Washington weather forecast. It set up the news conference outdoors in the Rose Garden. Wouldn´t you know given POTUS´ recent luck, it began raining heavily. Obama [Snip] ordered two U.S. Marines to come hold umbrellas over the leaders´ heads while standing at attention.

Washington, the former swamp steeped now in ambition, acrimony and duplicity, is quite experienced in handling scandals. They erupt regularly like bipartisan blisters. If handled correctly -- take responsibility, be sincere, proactive, contrite and get all the bad stuff out there quickly in one tidy, eminently forgettable package -- scandals can heal and leave barely a scar. Take Barack Obama. Please. His recent behavior and that of his administration in this ongoing bad news blizzard will be case studies for future generations of communications strategists on how not to address crises.

Letterman: Barbara Walters announced her retirement on ´The View.´ She was smiling. Had a little cake. Seemed to know where she was. Fallon: Joe Biden met with South Korean President Park, gave her advice on avoiding war with North Korea. In other words, we´re going to war with North Korea. Leno: A CNN reporter was robbed right in downtown Atlanta. But because it was on CNN, there were no witnesses. Fallon: Obama tells Ohio State grads they need to make the world a better place. Awkward! Students yelled back, "That´s your responsibility?” You´re the president!"

A key tenet of Barack Obama´s grand design to radically transform the country he did not grow up in is to corrode Americans´ confidence in their revered institutions. The Supreme Court. Private enterprise. The national capitol complex. Big business (except for its political donations to him). Congress. Especially Congress, even when it does his bidding. If Americans come to doubt what they used to believe in, it will be easier for Obama to drive home his own brand of solutions. [Snip] Obama’s been admitting an awful lot of ignorance in recent days.

Hello, everyone, I’m Martha Roby. I’m proud to represent Alabama’s Second Congressional District, [Snip] Allow me to take this opportunity to wish a Happy Mother’s Day to my mom, and to all the moms out there. It is such a blessing to be a mother. Raising children is an immeasurable joy, but as all moms know, it comes with unique challenges. And it can be especially tough for moms who work outside the home. Talk to just about any mom or dad and they’ll tell you they wish they had more time.

Obama: Our economy is

Hi, everybody. Our top priority as a nation is reigniting the true engine of our economic growth — a rising, thriving middle class. And few things define what it is to be middle class in America more than owning your own cornerstone of the American Dream: a home. Today, seven years after the real estate bubble burst, triggering the worst economic crisis since the Great Depression and costing millions of responsible Americans their jobs and their homes, our housing market is healing. Sales are up. Foreclosures are down.

The big Benghazi mystery: Where was
Obama while 4 Americans perished?

The most over-used trick of Barack Obama´s reign of error is whenever something adverse happens, just ignore it. Keep talking happy. And with a complicit capitol media the problem will eventually melt away. Remember all those new jobs that almost $1 trillion of stimulus was going to create by the hundreds of thousands any month now? That was 2009. Still waiting. [Snip] Now, thanks to our two-party system of checks and balances and the courage of a handful of whistle-blowers we´re beginning to get a fuller account of what really happened that awful night. It´s not pretty.

Nice try, Mr. President. Feigning anger, firing an unknown bureaucrat and fleeing the podium won’t cut it with voters, or stop the hemorrhaging of the scandals that have spawned a Watergate-like feel around the Obama administration. There was a certain panicky look about the way the president quickly delivered a rare evening White House statement to try to quell the growing outrage over the IRS targeting of Tea Party groups. The move showed how damaging the scandal has become to Obama’s second term and maybe even his presidency. But Obama took no questions and, more importantly,

Watching President Obama trying to dodge raindrops and responsibility yesterday reminded me of the moment when Dorothy pulls back the curtain and discovers that the Wizard of Oz is “just a man.” Stripped of his spell of mystery and power, the wizard is worse than mortal. He’s a fake. So it was with Obama in the Rose Garden. His performance was tired and trite, ordinary to the point of dull. His veneer of passion was so transparent that you could see him trying to summon his old-time magic by pushing the buttons

STANDING BEFORE reporters Thursday, President Obama declined an invitation to compare the recent scandals weighing down his administration with those that forced President Nixon to resign in 1974. So allow us to do the work for him: There is no comparison. Nixon, in a series of crimes that collectively came to be known as Watergate, directed from the White House and Justice Department a concerted campaign against those he perceived as political enemies, in the process subverting the FBI, the IRS, other government agencies and the electoral process to his nefarious purposes. Mr. Obama has done nothing of the kind.

The State Department, under Secretary Hillary Rodham Clinton, created an arrangement for her longtime aide and confidante Huma Abedin to work for private clients as a consultant while serving as a top adviser in the department. Ms. Abedin did not disclose the arrangement — or how much income she earned — on her financial report. It requires officials to make public any significant sources of income. An adviser to Mrs. Clinton, Philippe Reines, said that Ms. Abedin was not obligated to do so. The disclosure of the agreement that Ms. Abedin made with the State Department comes as her husband,

The White House on Wednesday released 94 pages of emails between top administration and intelligence officials who helped shape the talking points about the attacks in Benghazi, Libya, that the CIA would provide to policymakers in both the legislative and executive branches. The documents, first reported by THE WEEKLY STANDARD in articles here and here, directly contradict claims by White House press secretary Jay Carney and Secretary of State Hillary Clinton that the revisions of those talking points were driven by the intelligence community and show heavy input from top Obama administration officials, particularly those at the State Department.

On Thursday´s NBC Today, in a desperate attempt to deflect from the scandals engulfing the Obama administration, co-host Savannah Guthrie wondered: "I read a headline yesterday that said Republicans see blood in the water. That they see a president who´s very vulnerable politically. Is there a danger that they will overreach?" Chief White House correspondent Chuck Todd agreed with the slanted premise: "There is. I mean, that´s what happened to Republicans in 1998 with Bill Clinton.

President Obama’s press conference in the rain was not a success, if by success, his supporters would mean an event which convinces anyone who doesn’t work for him that he’s getting ahead of the scandal deluge. The sight of a Marine holding an umbrella over his head only added to the weirdness of the event. So what did we learn? 1. He has full confidence in Attorney General Eric Holder, the man who purportedly recused himself (whenever) without putting it in writing (whatever). When asked about the untrammeled snooping on Associated Press reporters and editors,
