| A good Samaritan braved the freezing waters of Lake Michigan risking his own safety to rescue a confused dog wandering on ice floats. Spotting Pifas, a three-year-old stranded golden retriever mix half-a-mile out on the lake, Dave Kehnast, 37, didn´t think twice about donning his wetsuit and jumping aboard his kayak to rescue the stricken dog on Friday. As the Chicago Fire Department went through safety procedures, Kehnast cut through the ice with his raft and herded the dog back to shore through the perishing waters of the lake off the Loyola Park section of Chicago. The rescue took place a half mile from Chicago out in Lake Mich. He was probably safer out in the lake than in Chicago!!Ted in Michigan

great story except for the part where the animal control people wouldn´t let the owner have him back until he (the dog) was neutered. is that some law in chicago? why does he have to be neutered before he can see his owner? nanny state nanny state nanny state.

#4: Yes, that´s the way it is with Animal Control in most places. The dog catcher picks up your runaway dog, and you will have to pay them board and the cost of spay/neuter to get the dog back. That´s how they end up with a lot of abandoned dogs. It´s the right thing to do. If an owner can´t keep their dog contained then that dog should be fixed to protect other dogs.
I´m a little concerned the owner of this dog is irresponsible. Walking your dog off-leash in an urban area where one side of you is busy road and the other side is variably iced over lake ... not the sharpest tool in the shed.

I wonder what it will take before the world truly wakes up to the horror, the corruption, the expense, the pointlessness, the total wrongness-in-every-way of the wind industry. My guess--and it will happen--is the decapitation, by a rogue turbine blade, of an innocent passer-by. US President Barack Obama touched down in Belfast today amid the biggest security operation ever mounted in Northern Ireland. Air Force One arrived at Aldergrove International Airport, 20 miles north of the city, where the President emerged from the plane with his wife, Michelle, and two daughters, Malia, 14, and Sasha, 11. While Obama holds talks with other world leaders at the G8 summit in Northern Ireland, Michelle and their children are due to visit the Republic. Iran is preparing to send 4,000 troops in to Syria to support Syrian President Bashar al-Assad in the wake of America´s announcement it will be providing ´military aid´ to the country´s Muslim rebels.
