Lobbying efforts take off
for airport name change

San Francisco Chronicle, by Heather Knight

Like so many San Francisco firsts, the effort to make our airport the first in the world to be named after a gay person has become a national and international cause celebre. A new Change.org petition calling for San Francisco International Airport to be named for slain gay rights leader Harvey Milk has gathered about 20,000 signatures - many of them coming from outside California and even the United States. High-profile gay rights organizations including the Human Rights Campaign, the Courage Campaign and the National Gay and Lesbian Task Force have also added their names to the effort.

As a part of the proposal, men´s restrooms will be redesigned as gay bathhouses, and a $10 surcharge will be added to each airline ticket for AIDS research. Meanwhile the lobby decor will be a gigantic mosaic of a gay rights parade.

Sounds like only a small and vocal group of activists are pushing for the name change. And then there is this:

I think it´s a great idea, but I don´t want it to come out of the city´s budget

Typical liberal.

If I remember Milk was not killed because he was gay.

Why don´t they just name the city Santa Leche and get the charade over with. This incremental gay-ification of world identity and world history is demoralizing when it becomes clear that the non-gay world´s opinions no longer carry any political clout.

The list of San Franciscans making a much larger (and broader) contribution to history than Harvey Milk is too long to justify any proposal to simply pick the prominent gay guy for fear of politically-correct backlash.

How about Ron Jeremy Airport - - or Long Dong Silver Airport?

I mean - - if we´re going to honor sexual perversity - - let´s pick someone who was really good at it.

As usual a zealous minority flaps it´s collective wrists and screams to get it´s way. Harvey milk was a probable criminal who happened to be in the wrong place at the wrong time...hardly hero material.

All of these activist demands could be attempts to recruit new gays and Lesbians If they were not constantly insisting they are born not made.
If born is a factor then all the active push will not increase their percent of the population.

The TSA´s will do their best to make sure that every passenger has a thorough body search. Extra fee if they use leather handcuffs.

President Obama will announce Thursday that the White House plans to lift the ban on sending detainees from Guantanamo Bay to Yemen, Fox News confirms, a move that could effectively resume efforts to close down the prison. That effort, however, has been stymied because many countries don´t want the detainees or are unwilling or unable to guarantee that once transferred, detainees who may continue to be a threat will not be released. There are currently about 166 prisoners at Guantanamo, and 86 have been approved for transfer as long as security restrictions are met.

Newly uncovered court documents reveal the Justice Department seized records of several Fox News phone lines as part of a leak investigation -- even listing a number that, according to one source, matches the home phone number of a reporter´s parents. The seizure was ordered in addition to a court-approved search warrant for Fox News correspondent James Rosen´s personal emails. In the affidavit seeking that warrant, an FBI agent called Rosen a likely criminal "co-conspirator," citing a wartime law called the Espionage Act. Rosen was not charged, but his movements and conversations were tracked.

The man shot dead by an FBI agent in Orlando, Florida early today was "about to sign a statement" admitting to a role, along with Boston Marathon bombing suspect Tamerlan Tsarnaev, in an unsolved triple murder in Massachusetts in 2011, two people with direct knowledge of the case told ABC News. Ibragim Todashev "just went crazy," and pulled a knife during his interview with the FBI, said state and federal law enforcement officials briefed on the latest strange twist in the investigation of the Boston Marathon bombing. One official said an FBI agent was stabbed several times,

WASHINGTON- Senator Elizabeth Warren has found a publisher two months after the Massachusetts Democrat began shopping her book proposal. Henry Holt and Company, one of the nation’s oldest publishers, announced it had obtained the rights to publish the book, which it characterized as telling both “Senator Warren’s improbable rise from a working class family in Oklahoma to the United States Senate,” as well as providing “a rousing call for protecting the middle class.” The book will be published in the spring of 2014 and will be edited by John Sterling, who is editor at large for Macmillan,

The public got its first look Thursday at Lois Lerner, who has gone from faceless IRS bureaucrat to the face that launched what feels like 1,000 congressional hearings and conspiracy theories. But it was only a brief sighting since she didn´t stay long at a House hearing to further probe her role in how some IRS workers came to target conservative groups seeking tax-exempt status. (Snip)She did make a short statement to declare her innocence, however. Lerner´s motivation was more transparent than much of what the IRS has done in connection with this controversy. She was determined to

A large majority of Americans hold a bleak outlook on the state of morality in the United States, as 72% said the nation’s moral values are “getting worse,” and only 20% said that moral values are “getting better,” according to a recent Gallup survey. The poll specifically showed that Americans who attend church weekly, are married, or are Republican, were the most negative about the country’s moral direction. But even Democrats, people who attend church infrequently, and the unmarried had high negative outlooks about the nation’s moral values. In the telephone survey of 1,535 adults

House Oversight and Government Reform Committee Chairman Darrell Issa on Wednesday displayed a string of emails showing his failed efforts to get an update from the Treasury Department inspector general’s office about its investigation into the IRS practice of targeting conservative groups who sought tax-exempt status. Emails seeking the information date back to September 2012, six weeks before the November election. At that point, the U.S. Treasury Inspector General for Tax Administration had promised an update. Based on other evidence provided to the committee, the inspector general was aware of the IRS practice of targeting conservative groups

Former Rep. I’m running for mayor because I’ve been fighting for the middle class and those struggling to make it for my entire life.

The dam protecting the IRS scandal began to crack today when Lois Lerner, the IRS official who announced, and apologized for, the improper singling out of conservative-leaning organizations by IRS employees under her command, announced through her criminal defense lawyer that she will not testify as scheduled tomorrow before the House Oversight Committee. Rather, she will assert her Fifth Amendment right against self-incrimination. This marks an enormous milestone in the IRS investigation. It can now be taken as more or less established that crimes were committed by Obama administration employees. Lerner’s lawyer tried to minimize the significance

WASHINGTON – A top IRS official in the division that reviews nonprofit groups will invoke the Fifth Amendment and refuse to answer questions before a House committee investigating the agency’s improper screening of conservative nonprofit groups. Lois Lerner, the head of the exempt organizations division of the IRS, won’t answer questions about what she knew about the improper screening – or why she didn’t reveal it to Congress, according to a letter from her defense lawyer, William W. House Oversight and Government Reform Committee Chairman Darrell Issa said embattled IRS official Lois Lerner waived her Fifth Amendment rights and will be hauled back to appear before his panel again. The California Republican said Lerner’s Fifth Amendment right to avoid self-incrimination was voided when she gave an opening statement this morning denying any wrongdoing and professing pride in her government service. “When I asked her her questions from the very beginning, I did so so she could assert her rights prior to any statement,” Issa told POLITICO. “She chose not to do so — so she waived.”

Former Democratic National committee chairman Howard Dean considers the controversy over Benghazi a “joke” and “silly.” “Benghazi is a laughable joke,” Dean proclaimed twice in a discussion with Republican National Committee communications chairman Sean Spicer last week. “With all due respect, governor, when four Americans die serving this country, that’s not a joke, sir,” Spicer responded. “Oh, stop it,” said Dean. The former Democratic presidential candidate also said that there were “no serious questions being asked about Benghazi” and brushed it off as an effort by Republicans to score political points.

There’s really no reason for the press to suggest that the recent slew of scandals involving the Obama administration — Benghazi, the AP phone-record seizure, the snooping in James Rosen’s e-mail, the IRS’s targeting of conservative groups, and so on — are a confusing jumble. There is a very clear thread running through all of the administration’s actions: The U.S. deputy chief of mission in Libya, Gregory Hicks, says that he was told not to speak to a member of Congress about Benghazi without a State Department lawyer present, that he received a phone call from Hillary Clinton’s
