Alcohol use accounted for roughly 3.5 percent of all cancer deaths in the United States in 2009, a new study finds. This amounts to nearly 20,000 Americans who lost their lives to cancer that year as a result of drinking.[snip]"Alcohol is a known cancer-causing agent in humans, but it has been severely overlooked as a preventable cause of cancer deaths," said study co-author Timothy Naimi, a physician and alcohol researcher at Boston University Medical Center. "People need to know the impact of alcohol on cancer deaths because it´s another reason why they should not drink excessively."

I´m with #1. It´s always "It´s for your own good, you´re just too stupid to know it"
BTW, anybody ever get annoyed at the stupid seat belt buzzer in your car. Can´t get in the car without the thing banging. I use my late model Honda SUV to drive around my private property, neighbors´ property, dirt roads, 3 MPH, and the seat belt alarm is banging. "It´s for your own good. Buckle up ..."
Liberals are everywhere. Wish they would move to another planet.
What were the controls on this study? Did these people ONLY drink alcohol and come in contact with nothing else? Maybe it was cocktail peanuts or the olives or the coke in the Cuba Libre or the hot sauce in the Bloody Mary that did it. I know: it was tiny umbrella poisoning!
Wonder if they will ever delve into marijuana and a link to breast cancer? Naw, too popular.
I think this study is amusing because the first public miracle recorded was Jesus turning water into some really fine wine at a wedding. There was also another passage mentioning a glass of wine helping digestion with a meal. So I take a study like this with the teensiest grain of salt.
How would you describe 3.5% of something? If four out of five dentists recommend Trident gum, that´s "most" dentists. Three out of five would be "a majority" of dentists, and two out of five might be "many" dentists. But 3.5%? That´s less than four out of a hundred. I would describe that as "very few" or "almost no" cancer deaths linked to alcohol.
I like to know what I´m putting in my body and its effect. The problem frequently is that we are not given enough information about how the study was conducted to determine if it is relative to our personal life. For months, local and national news have been pushing flu vaccines especially for the "elderly". But now we are told these same vaccines are only 9% effective for the "elderly". The second I read or hear the word "study" I begin to doubt what comes next.
If stopping the use of high potency chemical drug therapy were replaced with so many different natural methods available of getting the body in a PH alkaline balance, I bet the cancer death rate would go down tremendously. But, then also would the profits of the big Pharmas.
What specific kinds of alcohol were used in the study? Bourbons? Vodkas? Kahlua? And which bourbons, vodkas, etc.? Just stay away from the cheap BEERS. You´ll be just fine. In fact, you´ll be better than fine. ;)
CHARLOTTE, N.C. – A bathroom fight Friday among football players from Winston-Salem State and Virginia State during a CIAA championship game luncheon left the WSSU quarterback beaten and charges filed against a player from the other team. The conference announced that the title game set for Saturday in Winston-Salem in North Carolina has been canceled. Rudy Johnson, the starting quarterback for the Rams, was "viciously beaten" by members of the Virginia State team, Winston-Salem State Chancellor Donald Reaves said in a statement. He said one Virginia State player admitted his role in the beating.
She smiles back at countless frustrated Americans as they tried to log on to the ObamaCare website, the picture of youthful health and wholesome trust in her government. Her long brown locks are pulled back behind her face, as she flashes an alluring grin that some say makes her the "Mona Lisa of health care." She could be the girl next door, someone you might see in the supermarket. Then again, she might be composite, crafted in Photoshop by a clever graphic artist whose work is already more successful than that of the IT team behind Healthcare.gov.
A collective gasp struck Americans Tuesday when Florida Sheriff Grady Judd announced the arrest of two girls, 12 and 14, charged with aggravated stalking of 12-year-old Rebecca Sedwick of Lakeland. Rebecca committed suicide, or what we in the freedom-from-bullying movement sometimes call "bullycide," by jumping from a concrete silo on Sep 9, 2013. [snip] The department said Rebecca through cyberbullying was told to "drink bleach and die,” “You should die,” and “Why don’t you go kill yourself.”
The compromise-friendly New Jersey governor tells Lloyd Grove he thinks Washington— including his own party—has failed at its only job: keep the government running. “It’s ridiculous,” Chris Christie said. New Jersey’s blunt-spoken, bipartisanly-inclined Republican governor was discussing the ongoing federal shutdown and debt ceiling crisis plaguing the nation’s capital. “You get hired to do a job. Do your job!” he said.
NEWTON COUNTY, Ga. - A mother concerned about art work posted at a Newton County school with the words "God is Dead" got a chance to voice her concerns to the principal on Friday. As FOX 5 reported on Monday, Crystal Mitchell was upset about a poster at Alcovy High School that quoted from the Arthur Miller play "The Crucible." "It made my daughter very uncomfortable," Mitchell said. "If my child can´t pray in school and they´ve taken religion out of school, for this to be plastered on the walls of school, is a huge concern for me."
Detroit - Prosperous suburbs surrounding Detroit — and even the struggling enclaves within — are working to distance themselves from a city in financial ruin. In Hamtramck, one City Council candidate is taking that idea to the extreme. Richard Fabiszak has proposed that Hamtramck build a 12 or 14-foot wall around the city, keeping out Detroiters, and requiring state-issued identification to get in. “That sounds crazy to me,” one Hamtramck resident told WWJ Newsradio 950′s Sandra McNeil. “I never heard of such a thing. That sounds like something you’d see in a movie —
London (CNN) -- As concerns about rising Islamophobia in Britain grew amid anti-Muslim protests and attacks targeting mosques, authorities made a 10th arrest in last week´s knifing death of a British soldier. Armed police arrested a 50-year-old man on a street in the town of Welling in southeastern England. The man´s connection to the case was unclear, but like the other nine suspects, he was arrested on suspicion of conspiracy to commit murder. Four of those arrested are still in custody, including the two men who allegedly hacked to death British soldier Lee Rigby.
US President Barack Obama may have moved the masses attending Nelson Mandela’s memorial service with his stirring eulogy, but it was his grinning "selfie" with the Danish and British premiers that set social networks abuzz. In a candid moment captured by a photographer, Denmark’s Prime Minister Helle Thorning-Schmidt can be seen holding up her smartphone, with Obama lending a helping hand, as they pose for a picture with David Cameron, all three of them smiling broadly in their seats at Soweto’s World Cup stadium.(Snip)Mashable, the news and technology website, ran the photograph under the headline: ‘‘Dear Obama: Funerals are no place
On his way to the podium at the memorial ceremony for former South African president Nelson Mandela, President Obama walked down the line of dignitaries, greeting other leaders there to pay their respects. Among the hands shaken: that of Cuban leader Raul Castro. Obama neither made a special effort to shake Castro’s hand nor to avoid him. A snub might have been awkward: In his speech, Obama praised Mandela’s “greatest gift” as “his recognition that we are all bound together in ways that can be invisible to the eye; that there is a oneness to humanity; that we achieve ourselves by
When I was a kid, I knew two different Santa Clauses. The first had a fat belly, rosy cheeks, a long white beard, and skin as pink as bubble gum. He was omnipresent, visiting my pre-school and the local mall, visible in all of my favorite Christmas specials. Then there was the Santa in my family’s household, in the form of ornaments, cards, and holiday figurines. A near-carbon copy of the first one—big belly, rosy cheeks, long white beard: check, check, check. But his skin was as dark as mine. Seeing two different Santas was bewildering. Eventually I asked my father what
The Obama State Department has finally released a second round of photos revealing the harrowing devastation wrought by a terrorist attack on the U.S. Consulate in Benghazi on Sept. 11, 2012. The new photographs depict rampant damage to the consulate. They show charred walls, smoldering fires, Arabic graffiti defacing exterior walls, and scattered debris throughout. The extent of the damage would lead any reasonably serious person to conclude that this was a cold, calculated attack, carefully coordinated to mark the 11th anniversary of Sept. 11, 2001. Unfortunately for the American people, the Obama-Clinton-Rice cabal that led to the Benghazi cover-up was
A black fashion student says he was brutally attacked by a gang of Hasidic men who shouted anti-gay slurs at him while he was walking through Williamsburg after a night of partying, the Daily News has learned. Taj Patterson, 22, was headed home to Fort Greene around 4:30 a.m. on Dec. 1 when he says more than a dozen ultra-Orthodox Jewish men began assaulting him on Flushing Ave. and yelling, “Stay down, f----t!”
A “presidential selfie” featuring President Barack Obama, British Prime Minister David Cameron, and Denmark’s Prime Minister Helle Thorning-Schmidt at Nelson Mandela’s memorial service began making the rounds this morning, but it’s the person not included in the frame who caught everyone’s attention: As anyone with two eyes and a Twitter account has noticed, Michelle Obama does not appear amused. Of course, though a picture says a thousand words, not all of those words are necessarily true. FLOTUS might not have even known the photo was taking place. Or she could disapprove of funeral selfies. Either way.
Just how much do many Hollywood liberals hate conservatives? In an interview with Playboy, Ben Affleck said, "When I watch a guy [on film] I know is a big Republican, part of me thinks, I probably wouldn’t like this person if I met him": PLAYBOY: You developed a political profile campaigning for presidential candidates Al Gore, John Kerry and Barack Obama. How did that come about? AFFLECK: I grew up in a house with a mother who was a teacher and a Freedom Rider—very left-wing Democrats living in a heterogeneous working-class neighborhood. I picked up a lot of those values there, and I
