| In September 1993, Secretary of Defense Les Aspin received a request from the U.S. commander in Somalia for extra tanks, armored vehicles, and AC-130 Spectre gunships to support U.S. operations in Mogadishu. Aspin refused the request. The White House was not involved in the decision. Days later, 18 U.S. soldiers were killed in Mogadishu, some 84 were wounded, two U.S. choppers were shot down, and one pilot was captured. Aspin, who later conceded he had erred in denying the commander’s request, appeared weak when responding to detailed questions during a congressional hearing. His resignation followed

Panetta lies, spends half the week in California on his walnut ranch, spins for el presidente, and generally accomplishes nothing.
Our drones just happen to fall out of the sky in enemy territor and he stands silently by when his boss sleeps thr the Benghazzi murders.

Yes, #1. You didn´t state the fact that the president is responsible, despite what the article says, because the prez is the one who picks the Secretary of Defense. So Zero is ultimately responsible for Panetta´s foibles, Just as Clinton was for Aspin´s. This president only takes responsibility/credit when an operation turns out successful.

The ongoing saga of Edward Snowden has at least been moving in the right direction for President Obama. Snowden may once have tried to position himself as a whistleblower, but he has since devolved into ingratiating himself with authoritarian regimes by plying them with American national security secrets. CANCUN, Mexico — Mexican authorities have arrested a former university professor who was on the FBI’s Ten Most Wanted Fugitives list in the resort city of Playa del Carmen. At least for now (although a statewide referendum may be pending), Arizona governor Jan Brewer, a Republican, has succeeded in her efforts to implement a key part of Obamacare in her state. Brewer has very aggressively — and entirely voluntarily — spearheaded the charge to implement Obamacare’s massive Medicaid expansion on her watch. She now claims, however, that she’s not really implementing Obamacare — or at least not any significant portion of it. In a recent interview reported by the Associated Press, Brewer said, “This business that this is Obamacare is a little bit interesting.”

But that deal has now caught the attention of Sen. Chuck Grassley. And the Judiciary Committee’s ranking Republican has sent State a letter asking 18 specific questions about how and why Huma Abedin was allowed to work simultaneously for Foggy Bottom and private clients. Charlie Rose last night asked President Obama his new Syria policy. The president first objected to it being called a new policy. "I´m not sure you can characterize this as a new policy. This is consistent with the policy that I´ve had throughout," he said. Obama then explained the goal is regional stability, and especially in Syria. "Really, what we´re trying to do is take sides against extremists of all sorts and in favor of people who are in favor of moderation, tolerance, representative government, and over the long-term, stability and prosperity for the people of Syria," said Obama.
