Soda ban to sap your $$
New York Post, by Brad Hamilton & Susan Edelman

Original Article

Take a big gulp, New York: Hizzoner is about to give you a pop. Nanny Bloomberg unleashes his ban on large sodas on March 12 — and there are some nasty surprises lurking for hardworking families. Say goodbye to that 2-liter bottle of Coke with your pizza delivery, pitchers of soft drinks at your kid’s birthday party and some bottle-service mixers at your favorite nightclub. They’d violate Mayor Bloomberg’s new rules, which prohibit eateries from serving or selling sugary drinks in containers larger than 16 ounces. Bloomberg’s soda smackdown follows his attacks on salt, sugar, trans fat, smoking and even baby formula.

There is no prohibition on diet soda.
You can drink plenty and not get fat.

Cutting down on carby drinks won´t solve the obesity epidemic overnight, but it´s a start.

Further dumbing down of society. Pretty soon we won´t have to make any decisions for ourselves. Our bettors will do that for us.

How does one man have the power to do this? Just what makes him so special he can decide what the millions in NYC can and cannot eat or drink? Where is the much vaunted (and apparently ficticious) NYC "spit in yer eye" independence? Oh, that´s right, they´re democrats who think it´s just hunky dory to be ruled by someone who says he knows best.

If Pinky makes this stick, it will lend credence to an idea that is already spreading; that the USA is no longer a serious nation.

Non-sequitur, # 2. This is not about what might or might not be good for people. This is about Government enforcing what it believes is or is not good for people.

It is about loss of freedom and self-governance. It is about the loss of a people and a nation.

Well, #1 / #2, most people can figure that out for themselves, perhaps NYCers need the help.

By what authority does Doomberg have to make these kinds of prounouncements?

What laws were passed, what votes were taken, and why are people just blindly accepting these dictatorial edicts without fighting them?

fta.."say goodbye to 2-liter bottles of Coke with your pizza.."--how long before the carbs in the dough and the fatty toppings on the pizza are "public enemy number one"?

Stuff and nonsense!

This is clearly unconstitutional and is why the Declaration of Idependence came about in the first place. Isn´t there anyone or any business that is challenging this communist totalitarian power grab in New York City? That little commie dwarf Bloomberg is breaking the law. NPYD arrest this criminal. Is NYC full of docile human sheep?

But a large Mochachino (or whatever it´s called) from Starbucks, which probably has twice as much sugar and calories as a 32-ounce Coke, is OK.

Oh that´s right, Little Naplolean´s friends go to Starbucks; they don´t get a Big Gulp at 7-11.

NYC - the hippest city on the planet, right? Apparently not. Not a single candidate running for mayor is taking on this idiocy.

I had lunch last Wed with my liberal friend, and we talked about this.

He didn´t get the whole "loss of individual freedom" thing at all.

He did say "Well, someone has to do something about the obesity problem in this country!"

I was at a loss for words.

Alaska Lt. Gov. Mead Treadwell (R) announced Tuesday that he will officially challenge Sen. Mark Begich (D) in 2014, transitioning from an exploratory committee to a full-fledged campaign. “This intense exploratory effort has convinced me that I have the support necessary to build a winning campaign,” Treadwell said on his Web site. “Today I’m taking the next step by announcing that I will not seek re-election as Alaska’s lieutenant governor and have begun to file documents required as a candidate for the United States Senate in 2014.” Treadwell launched his exploratory effort

That worker felt it necessary to call the police and pursue other security measures to protect his family, a source told The Daily Caller News Foundation. The IRS has disabled the computer accounts of Lois Lerner, the director of exempt organizations who’s been put on administrative leave, and Holly Paz, the former director of the Office of Rulings and Agreements, according to an IRS source familiar with the situation. The source says that their accounts were shut down shortly after 10:00 p.m. on Thursday, June 13, at the request of Glenn Melcher, who identifies himself as a lawyer with the office of the IRS’s chief counsel. That’s the same day that National Review Online reported that, contrary to the IRS’s blanket denial,

Despite his evident reluctance to take America into the Syrian civil war, President Barack Obama appears to be traveling down that road step-by-step. He has decided the U.S. will provide weapons to the insurgents. If that action fails to transform the conflict, he will face increasing pressure for Washington to do more. And if he does, he risks involving the country in another senseless conflict — and ruining his presidency in the process. It may be pure coincidence, but the president acted only after Bill Clinton warned that the current occupant of the Oval Office could end up

Former IT guy Edward Snowden, 29, is not in a good position right now. He´s stuck in Hong Kong, waiting to be interrogated by Chinese officials. These Chinese officials are going to ask him to turn over thousands of secret documents he stole from the NSA, a client of his former employer, Booz Allen. If Snowden does what these Chinese officials ask, he´ll reveal American security secrets to one of America´s biggest security threats. If Snowden does not hand over documents to China, he may face extradition back to the United States where life in prison is a very real

It was tough choosing between “Ecofeminist Ecosocialism in Action: Perspective on Contemporary Movements for a Planet Beyond Capitalism” and “Sarte Re-visited in a Time of Crisis,” two of the highlights of the 2013 Left Forum. But somehow I managed. The Left Forum is the preeminent socialist confab in the United States, bringing together leftists of all stripes since 1981 for three days of panels, lectures, and more panels. So many panels. The Congressional Baseball Game gives congressmen tired of shouting matches on the floor an annual chance to blow off steam on the diamond. There, the shot at clear victory, alien in the world of committee meetings and debates, inspires fever pitch efforts from both parties. Yesterday at Nationals Park, the Democrats hit boiling point early and blew by the Republicans 22-0. Rep. Cedric Richmond (D-LA), who has carried the team for the past two years, pitched seven shutout innings and drove in two runs with his four hits. There was no mercy on display. Whuppings aren’t uncommon

Amid a steady rise of backlash, Edward Snowden, the 29-year-old former National Security Agency contractor who was the source of a spring of leaks about the agency´s surveillance methods, conducted a live chat on The Guardian´s website Monday morning. Judging from some of the pointed questions he´s been asked and the reaction to newly leaked revelations over the past few days, it´s clear that much of the sympathy and support Snowden had built up for his early exposures is eroding. Many Americans supported his decision to leak information about a pair of National Security Agency surveillance programs, which, he detailed, gathered information

Five months into his second term, allies and enemies are as confounded as ever about who President Obama really is. Is he the dyed-in-the-wool liberal that his biggest supporters and critics suggest? Or is he a pragmatic, even cynical, politician who cares more for his popularity than taking risks for his ideological goals or living up to his rhetoric? Even in the short period since his reelection, Obama has provided evidence to support conflicting interpretations. His efforts to pass immigration reform, the unsuccessful push for stricter gun controls and tax hikes on high earners buttress the case for Obama-as-ideologue.

Jeb Bush says he’s not worried that his work toward comprehensive immigration reform and his ties to the GOP establishment will alienate conservatives and negatively impact a potential 2016 presidential campaign, referring to critics as “the chirpers.” “If I decide to run for office again, it will be based on what I believe, and it will be based on my record,” the former Florida governor said in an interview with the Christian Broadcasting Network’s David Brody. “And that record was one of solving problems completely from a conservative prospective.” Bush (R) pointed to his conservative

During his interview with ABC’s Jonathan Karl this morning, Rubio didn’t even seem to understand what that meant. “Are you being played by the Democrats?” asked Karl. “Is Chuck Schumer playing you?” “I don’t — I quite frankly, I don’t even know what that means,” Rubio replied. “Is he using you?” Karl continued. “Is he using you to try to accomplish something that the Democrats want and is not — not a conservative bill?” Rubio responded that immigration reform was a bi-partisan issue that “all Americans

Charlie Rose last night asked President Obama his new Syria policy. The president first objected to it being called a new policy. "I´m not sure you can characterize this as a new policy. This is consistent with the policy that I´ve had throughout," he said. Obama then explained the goal is regional stability, and especially in Syria. "Really, what we´re trying to do is take sides against extremists of all sorts and in favor of people who are in favor of moderation, tolerance, representative government, and over the long-term, stability and prosperity for the people of Syria," said Obama.

Marco Rubio. Paul Ryan. The IRS. Illegal immigration. And fraud to the tune of billions.. Now there’s a combustible mix. Let’s start with the IRS, illegal immigration and fraud. We’ll come back in a minute to Senator Rubio and Congressman Ryan. For those who came in late, a year before the IRS scandals burst onto the scene in early May of 2013, an alert investigative reporter for WTHR-Indianapolis (Channel 13), Bob Segall by name, produced a stunning piece of journalism. Segall’s video report is found here and we will quote from his story for the basics.
