| North Carolina will soon start issuing driver´s licenses to some illegal immigrants, but the design of the new cards has sparked outrage among civil libertarians. The licenses have a tell-tale bright pink stripe across the top along with the words ´NO LAWFUL STATUS´ written in bold, which have raised concerns that they will encourage discrimination against those who show it. The North Carolina Division of Motor Vehicles announced last week they would begin issuing the licenses on March 25 following a lengthy legal review. Nothing wrong with this law. There´s a new liberal movement to push policies that before you get a driver´s license you have to attend a seminar on organ donations. That´s a lot worse to me than this law.
There´s another firestorm brewing in SC that would restrict food stamp recipients from buying "unhealthy" foods. This will get them riled up.Sounds like something Bloomberg would do but he wouldn´t want to alienate his base.

There is no discrimination here. The fact is they have "No lawful status".

In Michigan, the requirements and process for obtaining a driver´s license can take a year for legal citizens. Rather than a pink striped license, I´d prefer a pink uniform from Sheriff Arpaio.

Excellent idea from North Carolina. This should be a national requirement. ´No Lawful Status´, I like the sound of that. It should be quoted more often in other areas when referring to illegal migrants.

This is fine as a temporary measure. But it accomplishes nothing except getting a few licensing dollars into the NC treasury because if someone is willing to illegally breach any country´s borders, I suspect they´d have no problem illegally operating a motor vehicle. I´d rather see a Berlin-type wall on our southern border with one door where those who want to seek legal status can be welcomed through. Oh, and like Berlin, MEXICO should put the wall up.

What a great idea. Would be nice if many other states adopted such a mechanism. To me, it helps flag officers during a stop that they´r dealing with someone who has already committed a federal office (& therefore, for that specific reason, may be more likely to present greater risk to the officer than others). Hint. View this as a legitimate safety reason for officers during legitimate reasons to ask for approved identification.
So how about it, state legislators? Got the intestinal fortitude to put such a mechanism in place? It´s a safety issue.

This is clearly intended to prevent illegal aliens from using their state-issued driver´s license as photo ID in order to vote illegally. Those "slamming" NC just want to let illegals vote (reliably Dem). That should be the story, not NC´s crass insensitivity in daring to call an illegal "Not Lawful."

This is brilliant. Information for law enforcement, employers and state agencies providing services like voter registration and food stamps can now have instant confirmation of eligibility without having to ask.

Unfortunately #15, NC doesn´t have a Voter ID law so illegals and felons can continue voting for democrats. I guess if they are going to let me drive, they might as well have this status displayed. Of course, I was almost killed in 2005 by a drunk driving illegal alien so I´m pretty intolerant...

Cockroaches show up when you leave free food out in your house, or your neighbor does in an apartment building. As long as the welfare state continues the cockroaches will continue to show up. Want to get rid of them? Then no welfare, close the border and fumigate the nation.

The article includes a statement from the ACLU regarding "...aspiring citizens...". Excuse me, aspiring citizens do not sneak into this country, do not steal jobs from citizens, do not steal services from our government, and do not overburden our social services with their anchor babies and visits to the ER. We must begin to pick and parse the statements from the Left and loudly point out the false nature of their premise and their claims. "Aspiring citizens" my aunt Fanny. These people shouldn´t be getting licenses at all, only deportation notices.

When I traveled to Germany in the 1990´s I always used my US State Driver´s license to rent cars. Why can´t they use Mexican or Guatemalan driver´s licenses? Oh, if they can´t get them where they came from, perhaps we don´t want them driving here either?

The Metropolitan Police has defended the way it responded to reports of the killing in Woolwich, south London, after questions were raised about how long it took officers to reach the scene. The force said police were there within nine minutes of the first emergency call and firearms officers were at the scene five minutes after that. Mayor Boris Johnson was heckled when he visited the area. BBC London´s Home Affairs Correspondent Guy Smith spoke with Assistant Commissioner Mark Rowley, former Metropolitan Police Commander John O´Connor and Roger Gray, a former firearms officer.

HANAHAN--The U.S. Naval Brig is once again being mentioned as a leading alternative to put terror detainees on trial after President Barack Obama this week rekindled his push to shut down the terror-suspect holding site at Guantanamo Bay, Cuba. “I once again call on Congress to lift the restrictions on detainee transfers from Gitmo,” he said. “I have asked the Department of Defense to designate a site in the United States where we can hold military commissions.” Speculation immediately re-focused on the brig at Charleston as a leading choice where some of the 166 detainees could go on trial.

Proudly marching through the streets of York with cheers ringing in their ears, the men and women of 2nd Signal Regiment--recently returned from Afghanistan--were greeted by thousands of people lining the streets to welcome them home. In the hours after the murder of Drummer Lee Rigby by alleged Islamist terrorists in Woolwich, south-east London, on Wednesday, the Ministry of Defence had advised servicemen and women not to go out in uniform--an order that was promptly ignored by soldiers who refused to be cowed and almost immediately rescinded. 300 members of the Armed Forces were cheered by well-wishers who waved

People taking statins face an increased risk of developing diabetes, warn researchers. They found a 10 percent extra risk linked to taking simvastatin--the most commonly prescribed anti-cholesterol drug--which rose to 22 percent for those taking atorvastatin. Previous research into a suspected link with statins found a 9 percent rise in the chance of patients developing diabetes, but the new study looked at specific brands of drug. [Snip] Researchers identified 471,250 patients with no history of diabetes and who were newly treated with a statin, just over half were women and all were at least 66 years old. Statin therapy

The September 11 attacks on America was by no means the first act of terrorism carried out in the name of Islam. The 1993 World Trade Center bombings killed six, while the 1998 US embassy bombings of Dar es Salaam, Tanzania, and Nairobi, Kenya, left 223 people dead. However, the scale, horror and repercussions of 9/11--2,996 people dead, the World Trade Center destroyed and the Pentagon attacked--set it apart as a seminal moment that changed the course of history. [Snip] Subsequently, Islamist terrorists attacked Madrid in 2004, London in 2005 and Mumbai in 2008, among many other lethal and devastating

Conservative radio host Mark Levin is very skeptical of the idea that President Obama had absolutely no idea about the IRS tea party targeting before the story broke in the news mere weeks ago. Levin declared adamantly that it is a “flat-out, bald-faced lie” that Obama didn’t know beforehand, citing prior reports by a few conservative news outlets picking up on the news well before the 2012 presidential election. Levin said, “I don’t believe for two seconds that Obama wasn’t aware of this.”

President Obama on Thursday nominated Victoria Nuland, a State Department official involved in the editing of the administration´s talking points on Benghazi, to be the next assistant secretary of state for European and Eurasian affairs. Nuland, a career foreign service officer who was until recently State´s top spokesperson, had long been expected to be nominated the post to replace Philip Gordon, who Obama picked to serve as Middle East coordinator for the National Security Council. Nuland´s nomination -- which requires Senate confirmation -- could come under scrutiny from Republicans who see her as playing a central role in shaping

Anthony Weiner’s New York mayoral candidacy was only made more improbable today after he revealed that he visited a Houston psychiatric facility following his resignation from Congress in 2011. Haunted by scandal surrounding his sexually explicit online communications with women, the Democratic former congressman sought treatment for his compulsive behavior from mental health professionals at the Gabbard Center. According to its website, the facility provides “3-day outpatient psychiatric evaluation,” particularly to “professionals who are in personal or professional crises.” While Weiner did not disclose

MARK LEVIN: So why didn´t Chairman Issa hold an investigative hearing a year ago? Why didn´t Chairman Camp, all Republicans, hold an investigative hearing a year ago, and all the other tripping over themselves right now? I´ll tell you why. Because the establishment Republicans, the RINO Republicans, despise the Tea Party. They despise the conservative movement. We exist to be managed, to be shuttled to the polling place, to vote for their candidates. The Karl Roves of the world, and all the rest of them. They fight us in the primaries, they fight us at the grassroots.

Fox News chief Roger Ailes has sent a memo to his subordinates at the leading cable news network. He sent this memo to his staff today in connection with the federal investigation into an alleged leak to Fox News reporter James Rosen, a story that the Washington Post’s Ann E. WASHINGTON —In a dramatic departure from existing White House procedures, President Obama requested today that his staff start cc’ing him on stuff. “Look, I know a lot of you think I’m really busy and you don’t want to bother me,” the President reportedly told his staff in an Oval Office meeting. “But cc me anyway. It’s good for me to keep up on what’s going on around here.” “It’s not good when I turn on the news and they’re talking about something at the White House and I’m like, whoa, when did that happen?”
