| LEEVILLE, La. – At the 85th Academy Awards ceremony on Sunday, an independent Louisiana-shot film, Beasts of the Southern Wild will be up for four Oscars, including Best Picture and Best Director, for its fictional account of a desolate band of folks living beyond the levees. Nearly 2,000 miles away, this fishing community deep in the bayous of southern Louisiana is the real-life place beyond the levees, a place where residents eke out a living selling bait fish, brace for destruction each time a large storm looms and watch the Gulf of Mexico´s steady march toward their front porches.

I´m just wondering how the Gulf of Mexico can be rising in Louisiana, but holding steady here on the west coast of Florida? Is the earth tilting so the water runs towards LA? Or could it be that the land is just washing away, and they think the sea is rising? Or mabe the land is sinking? Oh, yeah. I forgot! Global warming. It only affects things locally. Hell, if you are 50 feet away, it could be warm where you are and freezing cold over there.

#1, I know, it´s just bizarre that a heavily engineered river delta would have portions that are losing elevation. Global warming, is there anything it can´t do?

The coast line in Louisiana has been eroding for decades. Nothing new about this.

The land south of Lake Pontchartrain was created by the Mississippi River. Like all deltas, it is a slow process of ebb and flow between the forces of the river and the forces of the ocean. The problems began when the levees were built all the way down to the tip of the boot of Louisiana and the river now empties into the deep waters of the Gulf. The mouth of the river is constantly dredged, but the sand is flushed out to sea. There is an effort to have the Corp of Engineers to pump the sand into the marsh, but "policy" will not allow this. What is working is "siphons" that allow river flow in high river conditions to be converted to the marsh.

Get a Louisiana map. Put your finger on Alexandria and sweep and arc from the mouth of the Sabine River in the west to Mobile Bay in the east everything is deposited mud and silts from the Calcasieu, Atchfalaya and Mississippi rivers.
The Atchfalaya is the ancient course of the Mississippi. For years the Mississippi has been trying to re-route itself down the Atchfalaya. If you look at the confluence of the Red River, Atchfalaya and Mississippi your will find a very large concrete dam holding back the Mississippi from leaving it´s current course.

Another Marxist agenda movie.... supporting the theft of land by gov´t. Cuomo is trying to buy up all NJ / NY coastline property for use as parks... Obama is declaring millions of acres as Nat´l Monuments where humans are not allowed.
Take a peek at Utopian map drawn up by the NWO crowd; Humans are only allowed in densely populated cities.
If you want to cry, go to the newly formed President´s Global Development Council website & learn what Utopia is like!

WASHINGTON – Sen. Bob Menendez expressed displeasure Tuesday over House Speaker John Boehner’s decision to withhold consideration of any immigration reform measure that doesn’t have the support of the majority of the Republican caucus. Menendez (D-N.J.), a member of the Gang of Eight, a bipartisan group of upper-chamber lawmakers who have pieced together a delicate immigration compromise, questioned Boehner’s seriousness about addressing the issue “if he is willing to put tea party politics ahead of the will of the American people.” “It is amazing and alarming that Speaker Boehner would allow a minority of House members –

The Congressional Budget Office released its analysis of the Gang of Eight’s immigration proposal today, and spinning is in full swing. The fact is, however, that the basic facts can’t be spun: the bill is a disaster. As with Obamacare, the Gang structured its bill to make it “score” artificially well from a budget perspective. They did this by delaying the newly legalized immigrants’ eligibility for most federal welfare benefits for ten years, which takes those benefits outside of the ten-year window that is scored by the CBO. But that cosmetic shift did little to conceal the plan’s baleful effects.

Another Republican Super PAC is jumping into the increasingly nasty Massachusetts Senate battle, going after Democrat Ed Markey’s biggest weakness — his $1.3 million Maryland home. The America Rising PAC, recently founded by Mitt Romney’s former presidential campaign manager, is planning to deliver a letter today to Maryland’s comptroller urging the state to investigate why Markey has never paid state income taxes there despite living in the upscale Chevy Chase suburb for two decades, the Herald has learned. Markey’s residency status has been dogging him throughout his career, ever since the Herald reported in the early 1990s

Are you ready for the great Sarah Palin Revival of 2013? The former Alaska governor and 2008 Republican vice-presidential candidate is back from her exile at Fox News and, like the former child star played by Bette Davis in Whatever Happened to Baby Jane, the self-described Mama Grizzly is ready for a big comeback. But to be blunt, she seems more like a relic of a bygone, little-missed era in showbiz-cum-politics. Indeed, she no more represents a viable future for the GOP than her 76-year-old “angry bird” running mate, John McCain. To give her full credit,

O n July 14, someone somewhere in India will tap out what is being called the world´s last telegram. India´s state-owned telecom company, Bharat Sanchar Nigam Limited, has been holding out as other countries around the world retire their antiquated telegraph services. Now, after delaying the move for two years, the business operating what is considered to be the world´s last telegraph service is finally ready to pull the plug, saying telegrams are no longer commercially viable in the age of digital communications. India´s telegram service had been upgraded in recent years — clerks now type up messages on computers

Alaska Lt. Gov. Mead Treadwell (R) announced Tuesday that he will officially challenge Sen. Mark Begich (D) in 2014, transitioning from an exploratory committee to a full-fledged campaign. “This intense exploratory effort has convinced me that I have the support necessary to build a winning campaign,” Treadwell said on his Web site. “Today I’m taking the next step by announcing that I will not seek re-election as Alaska’s lieutenant governor and have begun to file documents required as a candidate for the United States Senate in 2014.” Treadwell launched his exploratory effort

Unionized local employees repeatedly harassed and intimidated non-union workers of a private disaster cleanup firm that won a government contract to restore Long Island, New York, in the wake of Hurricane Sandy. The vice president of the union even made threats against the wife and kids of one of the workers. That worker felt it necessary to call the police and pursue other security measures to protect his family, a source told The Daily Caller News Foundation. After Hurricane Sandy devastated the New York and New Jersey shoreline in late October, Looks Great Services (LGS)

A group of whistleblowers, including a number of aviation experts, have come forward in a new documentary to claim that the official explanation for the crash of TWA Flight 800 was wrong and a gas tank explosion did not bring down the flight off the coast of Long Island 17 years ago. However, the six whistleblowers, all part of the original investigation team, stopped short of saying the plane was shot down. Flight 800, a Boeing 747, had just taken off from JFK airport with 230 people aboard on July 17, 1996 enroute to Paris when it exploded

An attorney whose firm represents two Benghazi whistleblowers said Gen. Martin Dempsey, chairman of the Joint Chiefs of Staff, lied to the Senate when he said there was never a “stand down” order during the Benghazi attack on Sept. 11, 2012. “What was fascinating is that he explained his lie to them,” Joe DiGenova, an attorney representing one of the whistleblowers, told CNSNews.com. “He actually said they were sent to Tripoli. They were needed in Benghazi,” said DiGenova, a former U.S. attorney, now with the Washington firm of DiGenova & Toensing.

Amid a steady rise of backlash, Edward Snowden, the 29-year-old former National Security Agency contractor who was the source of a spring of leaks about the agency´s surveillance methods, conducted a live chat on The Guardian´s website Monday morning. Judging from some of the pointed questions he´s been asked and the reaction to newly leaked revelations over the past few days, it´s clear that much of the sympathy and support Snowden had built up for his early exposures is eroding. Many Americans supported his decision to leak information about a pair of National Security Agency surveillance programs, which, he detailed, gathered information

Likening religious schools to segregation--a racist system that forced blacks to attend different schools and use different facilities than whites in the American South--President Barack Obama told a town hall meeting for youth in Belfast, Northern Ireland on Monday that there should not be Catholic and Protestant schools because such schools cause division. "Because issues like segregated schools and housing, lack of jobs and opportunity--symbols of history that are a source of pride for some and pain for others--these are not tangential to peace; they’re essential to it,"

Listening to Barack Obama give his speech in Belfast on Monday, it was hard not to stifle a yawn. I kept waiting for the part when he would say something interesting, but, about three quarters of the way through, realised it wasn’t going to come. Judging from television pictures some of his young audience felt the same, after the initial rush of euphoria of receiving the rock star president in their midst had passed. This is not surprising, for we had already heard this number about the inspirational role of the Northern Ireland peace process and the Emerald Isle’s

Charlie Rose last night asked President Obama his new Syria policy. The president first objected to it being called a new policy. "I´m not sure you can characterize this as a new policy. This is consistent with the policy that I´ve had throughout," he said. Obama then explained the goal is regional stability, and especially in Syria. "Really, what we´re trying to do is take sides against extremists of all sorts and in favor of people who are in favor of moderation, tolerance, representative government, and over the long-term, stability and prosperity for the people of Syria," said Obama.

Marco Rubio. Paul Ryan. The IRS. Illegal immigration. And fraud to the tune of billions.. Now there’s a combustible mix. Let’s start with the IRS, illegal immigration and fraud. We’ll come back in a minute to Senator Rubio and Congressman Ryan. For those who came in late, a year before the IRS scandals burst onto the scene in early May of 2013, an alert investigative reporter for WTHR-Indianapolis (Channel 13), Bob Segall by name, produced a stunning piece of journalism. Segall’s video report is found here and we will quote from his story for the basics.
