SHOCK REPORT — Veterans Receive
Letters From VA Prohibiting
Ownership or Purchase of Firearms

Gateway Pundit, by Jim Hoft

Original Article

This must be Barack Obama’s way of thanking our veterans for serving. US veterans are receiving letters from the government informing them that they are disabled and not allowed to own, purchase or possess a firearm. If the veteran does decide to purchase a firearm he will by fined, imprisoned or both. This comes on page 2 of the VA letter. (Snip for graphic)Constitutional Attorney Michael Connelly, J.D. reported this at Red Flag News. How would you feel if you received a letter from the U.S. Government informing you that because of a physical or mental condition

Including ( and primarily intended for) PTSD. Kinda saw this one coming after Big Sis´ ´terrorism report´ a couple years back.

The left wants to chip away little by little until they confiscate all guns.

This is a very large segment of society that has proven both their valor and a willingness to take up arms and fight for their country.
I wonder why this admin. would want these people disarmed ?

The Founders would have already been shooting by now. It´s only a matter of time until we have had enough. Anger among real Americans is very close to it´s breaking point. When it happens their Bunkers won´t be deep enough.I can garantee it.

I think it is pretty obvious why the administration wouldn´t want Vets to have guns. They know how to shoot them. LOL.

If this report is true, the Vets will just sue and win. If this letter only went out to some truly demented individual, nothing much will come of it. If a Vet is diagnosed schizoid and paranoic, I don´t want him having a gun either. I have been on the barrel end of such a gun in the hands of a Viet Nam vet. It´s a really funny feeling when you hear the click of the pulled trigger......concentrates the mind. LOL

Reply 6 - Posted by: rabbit, 2/22/2013 6:07:03 PM     (No. 9191535)

Nothing shocking about this...Republicans need to quit jumping at everything!

The letter is very specific. If you are found to be incompetent to handle your own affairs, then these rules regarding guns come into play. Now...think about this. It takes a lot to be found incompetent to handle your own affairs. Parents of special needs children who are becoming adults go through this all the time. If the child is going to be competent to handle his own affairs, he keeps all of his rights. And potential guardians must prove that the child is not capable of handling his own affairs before they can get a legal ruling of incompetency.

Do you really want someone who is legally incompetent to handle his own money or enter into a contract to be owning or purchasing firearms? How can he purchase a gun if he can´t legally enter into the contract to purchase it? If you are incompetent to make the decision as to where you live, do you need to be deciding when to use a gun?

I can just imagine Alabama Senator Shelby getting on the phone to Graham and McCain and those who demanded the Hagel nomination be withdrawn to inquire whether they will summons the husband of the default candidate for Defense, Michelle Flournoy, to a hearing to explain what the h--- he was thinking in formulating this policy. He happens to be Dpty Secretary of VA and is responsible for policy and care of all returning vets, W. Scott Gould. Ole Shelby will probably ask if they want to go with the DoD nominee they know, or allow policy for enlisted personnel and vets to be conducted out of one household...

Gotta go polish my tinfoil hat...

#6 you have incorrectly cited the article. It says that they will determine if the vet is incompetent, not that the vet has been determined incompetent by law to have rights suspended. This is new.

Considering that the psycho in Connecticut who started this ball rolling was a snot-nosed kid who wasn´t even old enough to join the military, this is uncalled for.

Our veterans are our sacred trust, sick, disabled or not. Don´t mess with them VA, or you will be messing with the rest of us who were lucky enough to come back whole.

Anyone that wants a gun will now be considered as incompetent. That is what many liberals believe.

FTA "If you knowingly violate any of these prohibitions, you may be fined, imprisoned, or both pursuant to the Brady Handgun Violence Prevention Act..."
So, they´re too incompetent to own/handle/carry a firearm and/or ammunition, but they are competent enough to be fined and sent to prison. Wouldn´t whomever the government has placed in charge of these "imcompetents" be the one fined and/or sent to prison?
I smell a nice lawsuit.

I don´t think folks with physical disabilities should have their gun rights taken away - I think they may need them more to protect themselves than the rest of us. I do however think folks with mental disabilities shouldn´t be allowed guns.

This is a case that demonstrates how invaluable the Lucianne site is...the letter sent out is consistent with existing, but wrongheaded, VA policy and an attempt by Sen Coburn to correct it months ago was blocked by McCain and others and discussed on this site in the thread below...the Washington Times report it conveys contains the following shocking statement pertaining to about 100,000 vets:

The Department of Veterans Affairs forwards the names of those labeled mentally incompetent to the FBI for inclusion in a national federal database, barring them from purchasing or carrying firearms.

The troll can´t understand what they read. This is the VA arbitrarily determining incompetence. They did this to a senior relative, WW-II vet, because his doctor had been told he sometimes forgot things at age 85. As soon as the VA saw that on the report for an otherwise healthy senior, they claimed he was incompetent to handle his financial affairs - which was bogus since his son was helping him anyway - but they made the bogus determination and as a lawyer told us - they don´t care what you or other doctors say.
I kinda think all libtards (determined by their political affiliation) should immediately be declared incompetent and not able to hold office or work for the government in any capacity, nor vote.

Reply 22 - Posted by: rlwo, 2/22/2013 8:19:12 PM     (No. 9191680)

In my experience the VA fiduciary system is itself is fraught with corruption and incompetency. In addition, this is putting a lot of weight on what could be called a distractor variable. In multiple choice tests there is often an answer that on the face of it appears to be the correct answer, but it is not. Incompetency and mental illness seem like obvious predictors to why people kill with guns, but they aren´t. Very few of those who have killed with guns had severe and chronic mental disorders, in other words those who were released from psychiatric hospitals historically or contemporaneously with diagnoses of thought disorders alone or psychotic symptoms associated with an affective disorder. The closest psychiatric diagnoses are more closely associated with paranoid, schizoid, anti-social personality disorders in which thoughts associated with them do not rise to the level of auditory hallucinations, and are not very amenable to anti-psychotic medications. These people are variously called odd-ducks, outcasts, loners, and/or "evil." They are not easy to identify and not easy to commit to a psychiatric hospital.

Distractor variables:

Mental illness is synonymous with violence, criminality, and "evil."

"Cracking down" on people with mental illness with strict regulations will effectively prevent mass shootings.

Gun laws focusing on mental illness will effectively prevent mass shootings.

This past Wednesday, I went to the VA Hospital in Louisville, KY. I was surprised to see signs everywhere stating that guns and ammo are NOT permitted anywhere on the property.

I could agree not to take any weapon inside the hospital, but disagree with it being on the property. If a person normally carries a licensed gun in his vehicle and drives 100 miles to the hospital, he certainly is not going to dispose of it just to park on the VA property.

Sometimes you have to wonder about the IQ level of those running the VA.

Also, did you know that a person who goes in the military and gets honorably discharged gets far more benefits out of the VA than a man who spent 25 years in the military and retired? Who wrote that stupid rule? The whining excuse is "You make too much money". Wow I never knew we retirees at half pay were rich.

There should at least be some protection for any individual so judged. There should be a law that incompetence needs to be proved by three outside specialists not connected to the government.

#29- I try to both expose and educate these seminar posters sent in here by OFA. This particular poster ´jumps in´ when its masters tell it that the topic is an attempt to restrict our rights under the second ammendment. My brother recently had a thorough psychiatric evaluation to apply for increased VA benefits as a result of exposure to Agent Orange as well as PTSD. The shrink advised that he thought he could help him with this but warned that he may run the risk of not being able to own a gun. An avid hunter and staunch believer in the right to defend himself and his country now has to decide whether to take the money and risk obtaining a concealed weapon the same way they do in the community that Obama organized. I wonder if he thought about this when he braved the explosive tripwires in the tunnels trying to defeat the VC?

It happens now and then. You hear a story so sad, so beautiful, so filled with loss and pain and grief and love, that it makes you cry. Really cry. Two years ago, I was making a grocery run for my family on Memorial Day when a story came on the local NPR station in Oxford, Miss. It was about a father whose son had been killed in action in northwest Afghanistan. The father was Paul Monti; his son was Sergeant Jared Monti. Jared died in Afghanistan trying to save the life of one of his men.

The recent attack on a British soldier by assassins wielding meat cleavers while bystanders looked on raises the question: “Why didn’t anyone try to help the victim?” Because British citizens are prohibited from carrying objects that could be used as “offensive weapons.” While it is well known that Brits cannot carry guns, a lesser known law prohibits any subject of the Queen from carrying a knife of consequence, pepper spray or a stun gun.According to the United Kingdom government website, the online storehouse of British government regulations, it is illegal to:

The White House on Friday didn’t respond to a report that Attorney General Eric Holder authorized the seizure a Fox News reporter’s phone and email records — and with no daily press briefing scheduled Friday that could mean silence from the administration through the Memorial Day weekend. NBC News reported Thursday that Holder approved the search of Fox News reporter James Rosen’s private emails and phone records in a probe of leaked government information. That revelation came just as the president ordered Holder to review Justice Department guidelines for investigating reporters. White House officials have not yet responded

President Obama’s speech at the National Defense University calling for an end to the war on terror forces the question of who gets to declare peace. The Left wing in our political debate has been agitating for some time to repeal the authorization to use military force that the Congress passed after 9/11. The President boarded the bandwagon yesterday. He vowed he would sign no laws designed to expand the mandate and declared outright that he looks forward “to engaging Congress and the American people in efforts to refine, and ultimately repeal” the congressional mandate to use force.

Ambassador Thomas R. Pickering personifies the State Department mentality that so many conservatives find objectionable. He authored a Global Zero report arguing for unilateral disarmament and then runs to his co-author Chuck Hagel’s defense, saying it doesn’t say what it plainly does. He gets selected for a critical State Department review of Benghazi, doesn’t interview the secretary or high-level advisers, and writes a report identifying no one in particular. He famously replied that it was fine to leave out higher-ups because “because in fact we knew where the responsibility rested.” In a milieu where double-talk, evasion

Levin declared adamantly that it is a “flat-out, bald-faced lie” that Obama didn’t know beforehand, citing prior reports by a few conservative news outlets picking up on the news well before the 2012 presidential election. Levin said, “I don’t believe for two seconds that Obama wasn’t aware of this.”
