| In an utterly unsurprising development this week, a town meeting in Westford, Massachusetts debated whether or not to ban so-called "assault weapons." However, in a rather surprising development, the ban was not only withdrawn, but it was withdrawn to the cheering of hundreds of residents. CBS Boston even described the applause as "thunderous" It´s incredible to see hundreds of Americans stand up for their rights in one of the most liberal anti-gun enclaves in the country.

Notice how ALL of the "news" folks are now obediantly using the term "gun safety" rather than "gun control"? No, there is no group think or coordination of news stories, especially at the direction of the regime, right? /sarc

It´s not "gun safety." It´s not "gun control."
It´s "civlian disarmament."
Do not yield to the left´s phrases.

This is the beauty of the New England town meeting: Communities get to decide what they, as a community, want. Probably few of those people own assault weapons, or want one. But they understand infringement of rights.
Oh...and Westford voted to re-elect Scott Brown.

Ah, the difference from one town to the next. Suburban Lowell is a prime example of this. Westford has a mind of its own. Chelmsford would lockstep with leftie gun grab. Dracula never. Billerica has been over run as late. All have the closeness to NH border that separates them from loonies down by Boston. Live Free or Die! Right on Westford - love ya!

#9 has given us a wonderful verbal picture - "the tide of reason is flowing back in". For one who loves the ocean it is a perfect description. The tide never goes out but what it comes back in.

The media elites have never been less interested in objectivity than they are right now on "gay marriage." They don´t wear rainbow flags on their lapels when they appear on television, but the coverage speaks for itself. Even liberals are admitting the obvious. The Pew Research Center´s Project for Excellence in Journalism (PEJ) studied a sample of almost 500 news stories from March to May and admitted "statements of support dominate" the daily narrative. "The study lends credence to conservative charges that the nation´s news media have championed the issue of same-sex marriage at the expense of objectivity,"

Aleppo, Syria - As the Syrian civil war got under way, a former electrician who calls himself Sheikh Omar built up a brigade of rebel fighters. In two years of struggle against President Bashar al-Assad, they came to number 2,000 men, he said, here in the northern city of Aleppo. Then, virtually overnight, they collapsed. Omar´s group, Ghurabaa al-Sham, wasn´t defeated by the government. It was dismantled by a rival band of revolutionaries - hardline Islamists. The Islamists moved against them at the beginning of May. After three days of sporadic clashes Omar´s more moderate fighters,

Researchers seeking the roots of autism have linked the disorder to chemicals in air pollution and, in a separate study, found that language difficulties of the disorder may be due to a disconnect in brain wiring. Researchers from Harvard University’s School of Public Health found that pregnant women exposed to high levels of diesel particulates or mercury were twice as likely to have an autistic child compared with peers in low-pollution areas. The findings, published today in Environmental Health Perspectives, are from the largest U.S. study to examine the ties between air pollution and autism.

Barack Obama returned to Berlin today, almost five years to the day from when he delivered his famous "Victory Column" speech that cemented his reputation as an international rockstar. Unfortunately, his reception this time was a lot different. An estimated 200,000 people turned out in July 2008 to see then Candidate Obama deliver an address in front of one of Germany´s most notable landmarks. He took a lot of criticism from Germans for his choice of location and from his U.S. political opponents who weren´t happy about seeing an American presidential hopeful being adored by tens of thousands of foreigners.

BERLIN — The last time President Obama paid a visit here, as a candidate in 2008, he was cheered on by 200,000 Germans eager to see the back of George W. Bush and, as one member of that crowd recalled Tuesday, “full of wholly unrealistic expectations of what kind of miracles Obama could work.” When he arrived here on Tuesday evening ahead of a full day of talks — capped by a speech at the Brandenburg Gate — the reception was far more restrained. Almost five years later, Germans have undergone “a brutal sobering up” with regard to Mr. Obama,

Washington — The nation´s teacher-training programs do not adequately prepare would-be educators for the classroom, even as they produce almost triple the number of graduates needed, according to a survey of more than 1,000 programs released Tuesday. The National Council on Teacher Quality review is a scathing assessment of colleges´ education programs and their admission standards, training and value. The report, which drew immediate criticism, was designed to be provocative and urges leaders at teacher-training programs to rethink what skills would-be educators need to be taught to thrive in the classrooms of today and tomorrow.

Villains abound in the great immigration scam, now playing out in Congress, and not all of them are Democrats. Some are fat cats of the Republican persuasion, and the satisfied smiles on their faces suggest Cheshire blood lines. An endless supply of poor, hungry and illiterate peasants, preferably from the Mexican interior where poverty grinds so exceedingly fine that crumbs and scraps look like Christmas dinner, is crucial to keeping the scam going for the corporate and personal elites. The illegals have fastened onto them like fleas on the belly of a blue tick hound.

A group of whistleblowers, including a number of aviation experts, have come forward in a new documentary to claim that the official explanation for the crash of TWA Flight 800 was wrong and a gas tank explosion did not bring down the flight off the coast of Long Island 17 years ago. However, the six whistleblowers, all part of the original investigation team, stopped short of saying the plane was shot down. Flight 800, a Boeing 747, had just taken off from JFK airport with 230 people aboard on July 17, 1996 enroute to Paris when it exploded

An attorney whose firm represents two Benghazi whistleblowers said Gen. Martin Dempsey, chairman of the Joint Chiefs of Staff, lied to the Senate when he said there was never a “stand down” order during the Benghazi attack on Sept. 11, 2012. “What was fascinating is that he explained his lie to them,” Joe DiGenova, an attorney representing one of the whistleblowers, told CNSNews.com. “He actually said they were sent to Tripoli. They were needed in Benghazi,” said DiGenova, a former U.S. attorney, now with the Washington firm of DiGenova & Toensing.

Likening religious schools to segregation--a racist system that forced blacks to attend different schools and use different facilities than whites in the American South--President Barack Obama told a town hall meeting for youth in Belfast, Northern Ireland on Monday that there should not be Catholic and Protestant schools because such schools cause division. "Because issues like segregated schools and housing, lack of jobs and opportunity--symbols of history that are a source of pride for some and pain for others--these are not tangential to peace; they’re essential to it,"

Amid a steady rise of backlash, Edward Snowden, the 29-year-old former National Security Agency contractor who was the source of a spring of leaks about the agency´s surveillance methods, conducted a live chat on The Guardian´s website Monday morning. Judging from some of the pointed questions he´s been asked and the reaction to newly leaked revelations over the past few days, it´s clear that much of the sympathy and support Snowden had built up for his early exposures is eroding. Many Americans supported his decision to leak information about a pair of National Security Agency surveillance programs, which, he detailed, gathered information

Listening to Barack Obama give his speech in Belfast on Monday, it was hard not to stifle a yawn. I kept waiting for the part when he would say something interesting, but, about three quarters of the way through, realised it wasn’t going to come. Judging from television pictures some of his young audience felt the same, after the initial rush of euphoria of receiving the rock star president in their midst had passed. This is not surprising, for we had already heard this number about the inspirational role of the Northern Ireland peace process and the Emerald Isle’s

This is the thirtieth anniversary of the publication of How Democracies Perish, an analysis of the spread of world communism by Jean-François Revel, one of freedom´s most serious French defenders since Tocqueville. At the heart of this work, Revel details "The Tools of Communist Expansion," among which the most relevant for understanding our current situation comes in Chapter 16, "Ideological Warfare and Disinformation." The profound simplicity of Revel´s nuts and bolts account of totalitarianism´s Cold War advance, far from being obsolete

Charlie Rose last night asked President Obama his new Syria policy. The president first objected to it being called a new policy. "I´m not sure you can characterize this as a new policy. This is consistent with the policy that I´ve had throughout," he said. Obama then explained the goal is regional stability, and especially in Syria. "Really, what we´re trying to do is take sides against extremists of all sorts and in favor of people who are in favor of moderation, tolerance, representative government, and over the long-term, stability and prosperity for the people of Syria," said Obama.
