I certainly agree with the headline. Washington has steadily taken over state and local governments for decades. It has been a very long process with a few strings added every year to erode all local authority.
Homeland Security, the latest major initiative, is now perhaps the largest. But at least they aren´t in the classrooms yet like the DoED.
And when will O start his personal army? Those orgranized thugs he promised would rival our military.

softly softly can you say -- it seems that only government workers are at risk if sequester is in motion . Since i pay a portion of their salary if they are cut maybe i too can continue to live decently.
The only exemption should be military for our protection and reasonable law enforcement. Teachers to me are not as sacred as they were to citizens of the 18th and 19th century. I have every method at hand to teach myself beyond their imagination.

Where I live, fire fighters, paramedics, police and teachers are paid by the city and/or county, not the feds. It has been this way every where I have lived.
Obama voters do not know any better and the media do not call him on this lie.

It´s always the most needed that get cut...that way it seems so bad. Why don´t you govt. bozo´s cut your own slush funds?
I have an idea, WE cut your budget 25%, you figure out where to do the cuts...if you damage our safety or children´s education, YOU will go to prison! How does that work for ya?

GREENBELT, Md.- NASA released a dramatic and revealing image of an erupting Alaskan volcano Thursday taken by astronauts aboard the International Space Station. The photograph is of the Pavlof Volcano, located in the Aleutian Arc about 625 miles southwest of Anchorage, the space agency said. The oblique perspective of the photo taken from the ISS when it was about 475 miles south-southeast of the volcano reveals the three dimensional structure of the ash plume, often obscured by the top-down view of most remote sensing satellites, NASA said.

CHICAGO -- The Obama administration has chosen a private attorney and former federal prosecutor who helped send former Illinois Gov. George Ryan to prison for corruption to head the U.S. attorney´s office in Chicago, Illinois´ senators announced Thursday. Zachary Fardon, 46, would replace Patrick Fitzgerald, who stepped down last summer to enter private practice. Fitzgerald rose to national prominence during more than a decade in the office and successfully convicted two Illinois governors, including Ryan. GREENVILLE, California -- An earthquake in far northeastern California was felt by thousands of people as far away as San Francisco and in two other states, but there have been no reports of injury or serious damage. The magnitude-5.7 quake broke dishes and shook mirrors when it struck at 8:47 p.m. Thursday, officials said. It was centered near Greenville, about 25 miles southwest of Susanville in far northeastern California, said Rafael Abreu, a geophysicist with the U.S. Geological Survey´s National Earthquake Center in Golden, Colo. There have been several aftershocks, including a magnitude 4.9 that struck early Friday morning.

Conservative radio host Mark Levin is very skeptical of the idea that President Obama had absolutely no idea about the IRS tea party targeting before the story broke in the news mere weeks ago. Levin declared adamantly that it is a “flat-out, bald-faced lie” that Obama didn’t know beforehand, citing prior reports by a few conservative news outlets picking up on the news well before the 2012 presidential election. On “Fox News Sunday” last weekend, White House aide Dan Pfeiffer was asked about President Barack Obama’s whereabouts the night of the Sept. 11 attack in Benghazi. This was the night when we lost our first ambassador in 30 years, and when three other Americans were killed in an attack that lasted all night long at multiple locations within the eastern Libyan city. Since the president is commander in chief, one would think where he was and what he did during such an event would be of obvious public concern.
