| Senate Minority Leader Mitch McConnell (R-KY) is the latest prominent figure to fall for a political parody article, this one from “military’s answer to The Onion” The Duffel Blog. One of McConnell’s constituents evidently sent him this piece from last October claiming that Guantanamo prisoners were set to receive GI Bill benefits and the senator decided he had to do something about it. Wired Magazine‘s Danger Room blog acquired a letter, seen below, that McConnell wrote to Elizabeth King, the Pentagon’s congressional liaison, expressing his concern.

This is truly a funny story! I am a constituent of Senator McConnell and have finally given up writing to him on anything. No matter what you write about, his interns/staffers send the coded answer based on the subject line. I have tested this on several occasions.
That someone in McConnell´s office actually read a letter about an article in the Onion and took it seriously just makes me laugh! Good joke on McConnell and his staff.

#1, I think you are probably right. The GOP hangs onto this old self-serving buzzards without replacing them with fresh new conservative faces. Then, Democrats find the right "celebrity" candidate and poof !

I guess we shouldn´t expect that a SENATOR is smart enough to check the validity of any article, regardless from where it originates, before jumping in with both feet... right?

The idea that Nancy Pelosi would again become Speaker after the 2014 elections was always something of a Democrat fantasy. It may be a good story to get a lefty to sleep at night, but it wasn´t likely to happen. In the last 100 years, only once has a President´s party picked up seats in the sixth year of a term. Redistricting in 2011 has put many of the seats the Democrats need out of reach. Whatever confluence of events Democrats envisioned would allow them to retake the House have been swept aside by the IRS scandal.

WASHINGTON - There were new questions Saturday night concerning if anyone in the White House was aware of the IRS´ targeting of conservative groups. Inspector General Russell George said he informed a deputy at the Treasury Department in June of 2012 about the probe into the IRS. The Treasury Department confirmed the timeline but said they did not know the details of the investigation until last week.(Snip)Marcus Owens ran the tax-exempt division at the IRS for 10 years. He said it isn´t difficult to figure out who´s doing what at the agency.

It began in earnest last Friday. A flash mob of latte drinking, tofu eating media that has done its best to quell, rather than fan the flames of truth, turned on one of their own. Treasury Secretary Jack Lew on Friday urged congressional leaders to raise the debt limit and insisted that the White House is not going to negotiate over the increase because lawmakers have "no choice." "We will not negotiate over the debt limit," Lew wrote. "The creditworthiness of the United States is non-negotiable. The question of whether the country must pay obligations it has already incurred is not open to debate." Lew said that while President Obama is willing to discuss plans to reduce the nation´s deficit with Congress, those talks must be kept separate from any effort to raise the nation´s debt cap.
