WASHINGTON - More than half of U.S. citizens believe that most or all of the country´s 11 million illegal immigrants should be deported, according to a Reuters/Ipsos poll released on Wednesday that highlights the difficulties facing lawmakers trying to reform the U.S. immigration system. The online survey shows resistance to easing immigration laws despite the biggest push for reform in Congress since 2007. Thirty percent of those polled think that most illegal immigrants, with some exceptions, should be deported, while 23 percent believe all illegal immigrants should be deported. Only 5 percent believe all illegal immigrants should be allowed to stay

That headline would have actually meant something big 125 years ago.

It would have been significant 75 years ago.

Today?

Meaningless.

Maybe the ´majority´ should have thought about that last November.

That´s why I don´t support the "one-warm-body, one-or-more-votes" school of thought on who is eligible to vote.

Still...it´s nice to get my lawn mowed for only a couple of dollars.

Just how much do politicians really care what the majority of U.S. citizens say? They take jobs (for less money) that citizens would accept, they use benefits they should be reserved for citizens, and anyone who violates one law is more apt to violate other laws than a citizen that is law abiding.

Personally, I think they should be tattooed before they are deported so it will be obvious how many times they come back...you know, one dot, two dots, three...then at some point, when they have no room for more dots, execute the criminal alien invaders for hostile invasion.

What needs to be done is just start following the laws that are already on the books.

Yep and like everything else we will be ignored. However, ignore us at your own peril Washington DC....

I don´t believe any polls. The majority of Americans are congenital liars, and polls are just an aggregation of their lies, totally worthless.

Reply 9 - Posted by: trapper, 2/20/2013 11:11:09 PM     (No. 9188046)

#4 - hire an American to do it and it will take all day, look like crap when he´s done, and it will cost you $50.

Why deport them? Why not just let them have temporary work visas with NO chance for citizenship? It´s what we should have been doing all along. It is not our IMMIGRATION system that is broken, it is our GUEST WORKER program that is broken.

Just like obamacare, obama could care less what the majority of people want. He considers himself the majority on one.

This is a no win situation for taxpaying citizens.

If the Repubs go along with this silliness, they will be done as a party for good. There will be no recovery. We might as well just vote for Dems because the repubs will have made it clear they care more about everything and everyone that isn´t a constituent they represent.

Democrats need a permanent peon class with high birth rates and chain migration to maintain power. The fast assembling protest mobs will look like Santiago.

Please excuse the second post, poster #9: hire an American to do it and it will take all day, look like crap when he´s done, and it will cost you $50.

That attitude is about a decade out of date. With all the 0bama "recovery" lay-offs, there are many Americans--many veterans--that will take any job to support themselves, and will be 1)show up on timehard, quick workers

That attitude is about a decade out of date. With all the 0bama "recovery" lay-offs, there are many Americans--many veterans--that will take any job to support themselves, and will be 1) show up on time 2) hard, quick workers 3) completely fluent in American English.

By the way, $50 for an 8 hour day is $6.25 an hour, much less than minimum wage...how much is your time worth??

Americans in a new ABC News/Washington Post poll sharply reject special scrutiny of conservative groups by the Internal Revenue Service, suspect an administration cover-up of the Benghazi incident and express substantial distrust of the federal government more generally. (Snip) Longer-term impacts of contentious current issues remain to be seen, but there´s potential for significant damage to the administration. Americans by a vast 74-20 percent see the IRS´ behavior as inappropriate, with most feeling that way strongly - and 56 percent see it as a deliberate attempt to harass conservative organizations, not a mere administrative error.

A massive tornado ripped through Moore, Okla., Monday afternoon, leveling a huge swath of a residential area in the suburb of Oklahoma City. Video footage from KFOR-TV showed houses, businesses and at least two schools completely demolished, with cars strewn about. Police and emergency crews have begun to respond, but debris has clogged roadways. There is no tally yet on injuries or deaths, but news anchors said significant casualties are expected. At least one large fire has broken out amid the rubble. The twister is already being compared to the May 3, 1999 storm that ripped through Moore

LOS ANGELES - More poor people live in the nation´s suburbs than in urban cities because of affordable housing, service-sector jobs and the increased use of housing vouchers, according to a study released Monday. The number of those in poverty living in suburbs jumped 67 percent between 2000 and 2011, a much larger increase than in cities, researchers for the Brookings Institution said. Suburbs, however, still have a smaller percentage of the poor than cities do. The report notes that poor people were pulled to the suburbs by more affordable homes and followed jobs that were often low paying.

LOS ANGELES -- flocking to Southern California beaches are used to feeding the meter or paying a parking attendant. Not so along the less developed north coast where it´s customary to ditch cars on the shoulder of Highway 1 to surf, swim or picnic. That sandy line that long defined the state´s disparate beach culture may soon fade. In search of new revenue, the state parks system is eyeing parking fees for parts of the Northern California shoreline where none existed or considering hiking rates to visit popular beaches south of Los Angeles during peak periods.

CAIRO — The pale, young Christian woman sat handcuffed in the courtroom, accused of insulting Islam while teaching history of religions to fourth-graders. A team of Islamist lawyers with long beards sang in unison, "All except the Prophet Muhammad." (Snip) Blasphemy charges were not uncommon in Egypt under the now-ousted autocrat Hosni Mubarak´s regime, but there has been a surge in such cases in recent months, according to rights activists. The trend is widely seen as a reflection of the growing power and confidence of Islamists, particularly the ultraconservative Salafis. "Salafis are the engineers of these stories,"

A shooting as the Warriors game let out Thursday night left two fans dead - the driver of a Porsche was killed by bullets and the passenger was killed as he staggered out onto Interstate 880 in Oakland. Now, police are turning to Warriors fans and nearby surveillance video from the O.co Coliseum for help in finding the killers. The victims identities were not released Friday, but the driver was a 30-year-old man

WASHINGTON – The Internal Revenue Serviced scandal today spread further within the White House and closer to President Obama. White House spokesman Jay Carney today disclosed that Obama’s chief of staff, Dennis McDonough, and other top White House officials had advance warning that the IRS was targeting conservative groups. But he insisted McDonough and the other White House officials purposely kept Obama out of the loop.McDonough “rightly chose not to take action” to inform Obama, Carney told reporters at the daily White House briefing.

The Washington Post on Monday reported that Obama’s Department of Justice was investigating journalists before they started wiretapping the Associated Press – for one, Fox News correspondent James Rosen in 2010. Their headline wasn´t "Obama Team Also Spied on Fox News." Fox wasn´t in the headline, on A-1 or on A-12, where the story continued. Newly obtained court documents “reveal how deeply investigators explored the private communications of a working journalist — and raise the question of how often journalists have been investigated as closely as Rosen was in 2010.” Reporter Ann Marimow began:

A senior adviser to President Obama mounted a combative defense of the administration on Sunday, saying the controversies enveloping the White House were the result of Republican lawmakers’ trying to “drag Washington into a swamp of partisan fishing expeditions, trumped-up hearings and false allegations.”The remarks came from Dan Pfeiffer, a member of the president’s inner circle, as he appeared on all five major Sunday morning talk shows in an effort to move the administration past what commentators have described as a “hell week” of controversy and missteps.

The wheels came off the Obama administration yesterday. We learned of a startling assault on freedom of the press by the Department of Justice, following the revelation last week of the unprecedented information-gathering foray by that department against The Associated Press. Then, a few minutes later, the Justice Department’s inspector general released a report declaring that the US attorney in Arizona used the leak of a confidential memo to try to discredit a whistleblower in the notorious “gun-walking” scandal known as Fast and Furious (which got two federal agents killed). The leak was called “egregious.”

Stuart Varney said this morning on "Varney & Co." that one of his producers was given a questionnaire with some surprisingly intrusive questions on it when he switched doctors. One of the questions was whether he/she was concerned about unsecured weapons in the home. Another asked whether he/she was "in a relationship in which you have been physically hurt or are you afraid of your partner?" Judge Andrew Napolitano explained that the question about guns comes out of a post-Sandy Hook executive order by President Obama, but it will be required under Obamacare. Varney expressed amazement

While many Americans were tuned into news coverage of the massive damage from tornadoes ravaging the state of Oklahoma, Rhode Island Democratic Sen. Sheldon Whitehouse took to the Senate floor to rail against his Republican colleagues for denying the theory of anthropogenic global warming. Whitehouse spent 15 minutes chastising GOP senators and justified his remarks by alluding to states that seek federal assistance in the wake of natural disasters. “So, you may have a question for me,” Whitehouse said. “Why do you care?
