| As diverse as they are beautiful, these stunning entries for the Environmental Photographer of the Year Competition capture the ever-changing and often precarious relationship between human beings and the natural world. From the children playing with an old television set by a west African rubbish dump to a crumbling colonial-era building in Bangladesh still serving the needs of some of the country´s poorest people, daily life in all corners of the planet is brought sharply into focus. Plastic greenhouses transform the landscape in central Spain into a geometric grid of agriculture, while in another part of the country,

Cry me a river. So now we have to canvas the planet to find pictures of environmental ´abuse´?
The one with the fisherman houses and the power plant in the background? He said ´smoke´ started coming out and then it started to snow. That´s because most of the ´smoke´ was water vapor.
The one of the greenpeace idiots trying to shut down that oil rig? I would have kicked them off and shot a hole in their boat.

Women, minorities, children most affected!
[Is anyone looking for what it is that makes male white adults immune to everything? That would seem to be valuable knowledge.]
No photo can provide any scale or measurement of effects [or their absence]. No photo can discover and explain the processes and mechanisms involved.
Which pretty much leaves propaganda as their use and effect.
#2: But we´re not supposed to know that!

Fine photos. Some valid commentary but mainly stereotypically Lefty hand wringing play by play... Even lamenting greenhouses that provide year round produce. Lefties stare out into a bleak, God-less world... Not a glass half-full view, their glass is broken and must be repurposed.

My favorite "caption" was the one of the mom and young boy in Mongolia and how these people, (third worlders) who have contributed "least" to climate change will be hit hardest. Then the next picture is of a woman pulling a dead sheep in the "harsh" cold climate of Mongolia.
Apparently, the caption writer does not have any sense of history or geography. Mongolia has ALWAYS been a harsh, hard place to live. Oh, and he can thank Ghengis Khan for climate change...without his connecting of trade routes and opening up of commerce via "endless" war, we probably wouldn´t have the modern world that we have.

Michelle Obama certainly knows how to work a room! In this case, it was a kindergarten classroom at Savoy Elementary School in Washington D.C., where the patrons were, well, pint-size. The first lady paid a visit to the youngsters, brightening their day with some silly dance moves performed in unison and imparting an important message about hard work and perseverance.Awww. According to the Huffington Post, Obama encouraged the kiddos to "try new things and not be afraid to fail, because we have all failed," and referenced Kerry Washington (also in the audience),

Jay Leno continued his humorous attacks on the current White House resident Thursday devoting much of his opening monologue to the various scandals plaguing the Administration. At one point, the NBC Tonight Show host joked, “It is not looking good for President Obama. Today his teleprompter took the fifth.” JAY LENO: I´m sure you know by now, Anthony Weiner, the peter tweeter, you know that whole story. Well, he announced he is running for mayor of New York City, but he´s having some problems. A lot of Democrats are distancing themselves from him. They say he doesn´t

Maricopa County Sheriff Joe Arpaio will appeal a federal judge´s ruling that his agency systematically singled out Latinos in its trademark immigration patrols, marking the first finding by a court that the agency racially profiles people. Tim Casey, the lead attorney representing America´s self-proclaimed toughest sheriff in the case, said an appeal of the finding that the agency racially profiles people was planned in the next 30 days. The decision by U.S. District Judge Murray Snow in Phoenix backs up years of allegations from Arpaio´s critics who say his officers violate the constitutional rights of Latinos

WASHINGTON — Attorney General Eric Holder’s fingerprints are all over an FBI warrant that authorized snooping on Fox News reporter James Rosen, the Justice Department confirmed yesterday. The FBI warrant that sought Rosen’s private e-mails as part of a leak investigation and called him a possible “co-conspirator” in a crime was authorized “at the highest levels of the department, including discussions with the Attorney General,” according to the Justice Department. “The Department takes seriously the First Amendment right to freedom of the press,” the agency said in the statement, saying it took “great care” in deciding to

Conservative radio host Mark Levin is very skeptical of the idea that President Obama had absolutely no idea about the IRS tea party targeting before the story broke in the news mere weeks ago. Levin declared adamantly that it is a “flat-out, bald-faced lie” that Obama didn’t know beforehand, citing prior reports by a few conservative news outlets picking up on the news well before the 2012 presidential election. Levin said, “I don’t believe for two seconds that Obama wasn’t aware of this.”

President Obama on Thursday nominated Victoria Nuland, a State Department official involved in the editing of the administration´s talking points on Benghazi, to be the next assistant secretary of state for European and Eurasian affairs. Nuland, a career foreign service officer who was until recently State´s top spokesperson, had long been expected to be nominated the post to replace Philip Gordon, who Obama picked to serve as Middle East coordinator for the National Security Council. Nuland´s nomination -- which requires Senate confirmation -- could come under scrutiny from Republicans who see her as playing a central role in shaping

Anthony Weiner’s New York mayoral candidacy was only made more improbable today after he revealed that he visited a Houston psychiatric facility following his resignation from Congress in 2011. Haunted by scandal surrounding his sexually explicit online communications with women, the Democratic former congressman sought treatment for his compulsive behavior from mental health professionals at the Gabbard Center. According to its website, the facility provides “3-day outpatient psychiatric evaluation,” particularly to “professionals who are in personal or professional crises.” While Weiner did not disclose

MARK LEVIN: So why didn´t Chairman Issa hold an investigative hearing a year ago? Why didn´t Chairman Camp, all Republicans, hold an investigative hearing a year ago, and all the other tripping over themselves right now? I´ll tell you why. Because the establishment Republicans, the RINO Republicans, despise the Tea Party. They despise the conservative movement. We exist to be managed, to be shuttled to the polling place, to vote for their candidates. The Karl Roves of the world, and all the rest of them. They fight us in the primaries, they fight us at the grassroots.

Fox News chief Roger Ailes has sent a memo to his subordinates at the leading cable news network. He sent this memo to his staff today in connection with the federal investigation into an alleged leak to Fox News reporter James Rosen, a story that the Washington Post’s Ann E. Marimow broke earlier this week. The memo’s a masterpiece, too. WASHINGTON —In a dramatic departure from existing White House procedures, President Obama requested today that his staff start cc’ing him on stuff. “Look, I know a lot of you think I’m really busy and you don’t want to bother me,” the President reportedly told his staff in an Oval Office meeting. “But cc me anyway. It’s good for me to keep up on what’s going on around here.” “It’s not good when I turn on the news and they’re talking about something at the White House and I’m like, whoa, when did that happen?”
