Connecticut lawmaker mulls
smoking ban in cars with children

One Connecticut lawmaker is pushing to ban smoking in cars with children, citing the health risks of immature immune systems. The law has been a focus of State Representative Henry Genga since 2008, reports WABC-TV. Opened windows wouldn’t give drivers a free ride, however. “The second hand smoke, with the windows cracked, is greater than the smokey bars that we ban today,” Genga told the network. A 2012 study published in the journal Tobacco Control found that drivers smoking in cars raised the interior pollution an average of three times the recommended safe level by the World Health

It goes without saying that this would only apply to Republicans that are US citizens. I mean, if you discover that the violator is an illegal alien you would have to look the other way because it would be silly to deport someone for the violation of this rule. And surely you wouldn´t apply this to the harried Democrat day care owner just trying to have a smoke without leaving the children unattended? s/o

And does the lawmaker agree to wipe their patoots, clothe and feed them and pay for their college so their parents can enjoy life? I thought not.

Connecticut is hemorrhaging jobs, industries, and revenue, and piling on higher taxes, higher debts, more welfare recipients, and an ever longer list of infrastructure repairs.

And yet this smoking in cars is the most important issue for this clueless socialist whore.

"Did you really think we want those laws observed?" said Dr. Ferris. "We want them to be broken. You´d better get it straight that it´s not a bunch of boy scouts you´re up against... We´re after power and we mean it. . . There´s no way to rule innocent men. The only power any government has is the power to crack down on criminals. Well, when there aren´t enough criminals one makes them. One declares so many things to be a crime that it becomes impossible for men to live without breaking laws. Who wants a nation of law-abiding citizens? What´s there in that for anyone? But just pass the kind of laws that can neither be observed nor enforced or objectively interpreted – and you create a nation of law-breakers – and then you cash in on guilt. Now that´s the system, Mr. Reardon, that´s the game, and once you understand it, you´ll be much easier to deal with."

I don´t think smoking is good for anyone, however, chip, chip, chip there go more of our personal freedom.

Considering it´s from the left, I´m assuming that they only mean cigarettes, cigars and pipes, with an exemption being granted for the wacky weed.

We already have it in California. Good thing they didn´t do this when my mother was younger. She quit driving before I was born because it was too stressful-especially with my older brother in the car. I could imagine if she hadn´t been able to smoke either, she would have probably never driven!!

The liberal WHS ruled, a number of years past, that second hand smoke is not harmful. Of course, the info was buried, never to see the light of day again.

Smokers can do whatever they want to themselves, but they have no right -- under any theory -- to impose their smoke and detritus on the rest of us. And what kind of a parent would give their kids a life-long health problem, even in potentia?

Reply 14 - Posted by: chumley, 2/20/2013 5:37:42 PM     (No. 9187563)

Here we go again. The camel´s nose under the tent. Its for the children. You have no freedoms; no rights, if I decide its for the children.
BS. Adults smoked in the presence of children for hundreds of years. Is the human population in any danger of dying out? Hardly. They are living longer and healthier than any time in history.
Liberalism has done far more damage to children than smoke. How about we outlaw that?

Thus (#13) speaks one who has been thoroughly brainwashed by the perpetual health scares promulgated by big government and the leaches who toil in the lucrative vineyards of junk science.

If second hand smoke was that bad my spouse and I would never have reached adulthood. Both Dads and all the uncles smoked a lot, in the car, in the house, everywhere. At family gatherings the dining room was blue with smoke from the men playing cards and smoking. None of them died of lung cancer and none of the 50 cousins have either. This all happened in the 50´s and 60´s, so there´s been plenty of time for illness to show up.

Senate rejects border fence

Senators on Tuesday rejected building the 700 miles of double-tier border fencing Congress authorized just seven years ago, with a majority of the Senate saying they didn’t want to delay granting illegal immigrants legal status while the fence was being built. The 54-39 vote to reject the fence shows the core of the immigration deal is holding. The vote broke mostly along party lines, though five Republicans, including Sen. Marco Rubio and the rest of the bill’s authors, voted against the fence, and two Democrats voted for it. Republicans had offered the fence as a way to

[Video] Louisiana State Senator Elbert Guillory (R-Opelousas) explains why he recently switched from the Democrat Party to the Republican Party. He discusses the history of the Republican Party, founded as an Abolitionist Movement in 1854. Guillory talks about how the welfare state is only a mechanism for politicians to control the black community. Hello, my name is Elbert Lee Guillory, and I’m the senator for the twenty-fourth district right here in beautiful Louisiana. Recently I made what many are referring to as a ‘bold decision’ to switch my party affiliation to the Republican Party.

Tough global rules to stop mega-rich firms and individuals from dodging tax were unveiled at the G8 summit today. David Cameron demanded the world’s most powerful countries act to stop countries shifting profits to low-cost tax havens instead of paying they dues where there are earned. The Lough Erne Declaration - signed by the UK, US, Germany, France, Italy, Canada, Japan and Russia - vows to ´fight the scourge of tax evasion´ by ensuring automatic exchange of tax information and changing the rules to stop multinational companies shifting profits across borders to avoid paying their fair share.

A controversial federal agency subject to little congressional oversight has advised its employees to include minimal details about agency events on work calendars that are subject to Freedom of Information Act requests. In a flier circulated to employees and obtained by the government watchdog group Cause of Action, the bureau’s FOIA office instructs employees to “keep your calendar entries brief and general.” The guidance has some observers concerned that the agency is instructing its employees to be more opaque in its daily operations. “Transparency is at the core of our agenda, and it is a key part

On ‘Morning Joe’ this morning, the slightly thinner Gov. Chris Christie R-N.J. dodged 2016 presidential speculation by announcing that he would not wear a Speedo swimsuit on the Fourth of July. “I can announce I’m not wearing the Speedo on the Fourth of July, that’s something I’m happy to announce” Christie joked after MSNBC’s Willie Geist pressed the governor for his political aspirations. Christie has reportedly lost 40 pounds after a successful lap-band surgery earlier this year. Later in the show, Christie explained that during a visit Jersey Shore on Monday, he was approached by several young women

Steve King, Michele Bachmann and other members of the Tea Party Caucus will host a nearly day-long dialogue and discussion on immigration reform. On the other side of the Capitol, Tea Party grass roots organizations will hold a rally to "Audit the IRS," in response to the agency´s efforts to intimidate conservative organizations. The immigration event hosted by Rep. King begins at 9am on the East side of the Capitol.

Amid a steady rise of backlash, Edward Snowden, the 29-year-old former National Security Agency contractor who was the source of a spring of leaks about the agency´s surveillance methods, conducted a live chat on The Guardian´s website Monday morning. Judging from some of the pointed questions he´s been asked and the reaction to newly leaked revelations over the past few days, it´s clear that much of the sympathy and support Snowden had built up for his early exposures is eroding. Many Americans supported his decision to leak information about a pair of National Security Agency surveillance programs, which, he detailed, gathered information

As NewsBusters reported last week, former Alaska Governor Sarah Palin called out vulgarian comedian Bill Maher for referring to her Down Syndrome son Trig as "retarded." On ABC´s The View Monday, co-host Barbara Walters astonishingly defended Maher saying, "I don´t think he intended it to be mean-spirited" (video follows with transcript and commentary): WHOOPI GOLDBERG: At a recent standup show in Las Vegas, comedian Bill Maher apparently called Sarah Palin’s five-year-old developmentally-challenged son Trig retarded. Five months into his second term, allies and enemies are as confounded as ever about who President Obama really is. Is he the dyed-in-the-wool liberal that his biggest supporters and critics suggest? Or is he a pragmatic, even cynical, politician who cares more for his popularity than taking risks for his ideological goals or living up to his rhetoric? Even in the short period since his reelection, Obama has provided evidence to support conflicting interpretations. His efforts to pass immigration reform, the unsuccessful push for stricter gun controls and tax hikes on high earners buttress the case for Obama-as-ideologue.

Jeb Bush says he’s not worried that his work toward comprehensive immigration reform and his ties to the GOP establishment will alienate conservatives and negatively impact a potential 2016 presidential campaign, referring to critics as “the chirpers.” “If I decide to run for office again, it will be based on what I believe, and it will be based on my record,” the former Florida governor said in an interview with the Christian Broadcasting Network’s David Brody. “And that record was one of solving problems completely from a conservative prospective.” Bush (R) pointed to his conservative

Politico’s Playbook has an excerpt from a new Ryan Lizza piece from the New Yorker that is not yet online. It contains a passage on the back-and-forth between labor and the Chamber that has a quote from a Rubio staffer that is going to raise eyebrows, to say the least: “There are American workers who, for lack of a better term, can’t cut it. There shouldn’t be a presumption that every American worker is a star performer. There are people who just can’t get it, can’t do it, don’t want to do it. And so you can’t obviously discuss that publicly.” Here is the entire context:

Iran is preparing to send 4,000 troops in to Syria to support Syrian President Bashar al-Assad in the wake of America´s announcement it will be providing ´military aid´ to the country´s Muslim rebels. President Barack Obama made the pledge earlier this week after the U.S. claimed it found ´conclusive evidence´ Assad´s regime has used chemical weapons against the rebel forces--which includes the most extreme Sunni Islamists--and has called for Britain and France to back the move. While Britain hasn´t made a guarantee either way as yet, more than 350 Royal Marines are being sent to Jordan
