Homebuilder Confidence in
U.S. Unexpectedly Fell in February

Bloomberg News, by Shobhana Chandra

Original Article

Confidence among U.S. homebuilders unexpectedly dropped in February from a more than six-year high, a sign the real-estate market will take time to accelerate. The National Association of Home Builders/Wells Fargo builder confidence index fell to 46 from January’s 47 that matched the highest reading since April 2006, a report from the Washington-based group showed today. The median forecast in a Bloomberg survey of 50 economists called for a rise to 48. Readings lower than 50 mean more respondents said conditions were poor. Faster gains in employment and income and easier access to credit

Comments:
There´s a ceiling on how much home building could increase due to lingering Obamanomics, which are gumming up economic growth.

$5 gallon gas, higher taxes everywhere, widespread inflation, higher unemployment. What a great environment for higher confidence in anything. Oh wait, I have higher confidence that Obama is destroying the economy!

I don´t think the word ´unexpected´ means what they think it does...

LOL!!!!
Now I know why I kept reading articles over the weekend about how the RE market was recovering!

How else could it be ´unexpected!!´

Reply 5 - Posted by: Emmajustin, 2/20/2013 3:25:44 PM     (No. 9187248)

It is only ´unexpected´ to the morons in Washington DC and liberals.

Reply 6 - Posted by: keekng, 2/20/2013 3:44:19 PM     (No. 9187285)

The only thing "unexpected" is lack of impeachment proceedings.

With interest rates near zero, getting the economy to be as bad as it is takes a lot of hard work by the Democrats. They have been laying groundwork for this my whole life and finally they are bearing the fruits of distruction of a once great economy.

And in Texas; home sales are up 30%, and prices are up 3%, on average.

We´re starting to get worried about a housing shortage, and apartments are at 90% occupation.

Gee, I wonder why??

Unexpectedly falls? I´m shocked!

No one expected it to be unexpected. Or something....

There was no confidence to start with!! The goobermint just made up some numbers to get Obama re-elected. And now, the country can start feeling the pain!!

Reply 12 - Posted by: nonsense, 2/20/2013 5:42:33 PM     (No. 9187571)

MOUNT VERNON, Wash. - The Interstate 5 bridge collapse into the Skagit River was caused by an oversize truck hitting the span, the Washington State Patrol chief said. "For reasons unknown at this point in time the semi struck the overhead of the bridge causing the collapse," Batiste told an overnight news conference. The truck made it off the bridge and the driver remained at the scene and cooperated with investigators. Two other vehicles went into the water Thursday evening as the structure crumbled. Three people were rescued and are recovering. Drivers should expect delays

WASHINGTON — When President Barack Obama pushed his health care overhaul plan through Congress, he counted labor unions among his strongest supporters. But some unions leaders have grown frustrated and angry about what they say are unexpected consequences of the new law — problems that they say could jeopardize the health benefits offered to millions of their members. The issue could create a political headache next year for Democrats facing re-election if disgruntled union members believe the Obama administration and Congress aren´t working to fix the problem.

COLLEGE PARK, Md. - Federal forecasters are predicting yet another busy hurricane season. Thursday´s outlook calls for 13 to 20 named storms, seven to 11 that strengthen into hurricanes and three to six that become major hurricanes. The prediction by the National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration is more than what is considered an average Atlantic season. Last year was the third-busiest on record with 19 named storms. Ten became hurricanes and two were major storms, with winds over 111 mph. That included Sandy, which caused $50 billion in damage even though it lost

Islamist militants have staged twin suicide car bombings on an army base and a French-run uranium mine in Niger, killing at least 20 people in retaliation for the country´s military involvement in neighbouring Mali. Niger´s Defence Minister Mahamadou Karidjo said the last Islamist was neutralised at the army base and denied early reports that a suicide attacker had held young army recruits hostage. The attacks come just four months after al-Qa´ida linked militants seized a desert gas plant in neighbouring Algeria in a siege that left 38 hostages dead, also in retaliation against the intervention in Mali.

WASHINGTON — Yemen welcomed President Barack Obama´s decision Thursday to lift a moratorium on transferring prisoners from Guantanamo Bay to the Gulf country. Obama announced the decision in a major speech outlining a new bid to close the "war on terror" prison, saying history will "cast a harsh judgment" on the offshore detention program and those who failed to end it. He said he would lift a moratorium in place on transfers of Yemeni detainees to their homeland, name a new envoy to handle the transfers, and ordered the Pentagon to designate a site in the United States

Sears Holdings Corp. The loss of $2.63 a share compared with profit of $189 million, or $1.78 a share, a year earlier, the Hoffman Estates, Illinois-based company said today in a statement. Revenue fell 8.8 percent to $8.45 billion. The company said it is also evaluating options for its Protection Agreement warranty business, including a possible sale. Lampert, who took over as chief executive officer in February, is putting increased emphasis

The public got its first look Thursday at Lois Lerner, who has gone from faceless IRS bureaucrat to the face that launched what feels like 1,000 congressional hearings and conspiracy theories. But it was only a brief sighting since she didn´t stay long at a House hearing to further probe her role in how some IRS workers came to target conservative groups seeking tax-exempt status. (Snip)She did make a short statement to declare her innocence, however. Lerner´s motivation was more transparent than much of what the IRS has done in connection with this controversy. She was determined to

When you get right down to it, the political targeting and stalling of tax-exempt applications by the IRS was an effort to defund the Tea Party. Rick Santelli, one of the Tea Party founders and my CNBC colleague, was the first to make this point. I’ve taken it a step further: The IRS was taking the Tea Party out of play for the 2012 election, as it looked to avoid a repeat of 2010 and another Tea Party landslide. There are a lot of numbers out there.

What´s so interesting about 60 tea partiers protesting the IRS in San Jose, California on Tuesday, May 21st? The fact that this bit of information was conveyed to the protesters by a Department of Homeland Security officer who was also in attendance. What was a DHS agent doing at the San Jose Tea Party protest? (snip) they weren´t just spying on us in San Jose and monitoring us in San Francisco, they were watching us throughout the entire state

President Obama on Thursday nominated Victoria Nuland, a State Department official involved in the editing of the administration´s talking points on Benghazi, to be the next assistant secretary of state for European and Eurasian affairs. Nuland, a career foreign service officer who was until recently State´s top spokesperson, had long been expected to be nominated the post to replace Philip Gordon, who Obama picked to serve as Middle East coordinator for the National Security Council. Nuland´s nomination -- which requires Senate confirmation -- could come under scrutiny from Republicans who see her as playing a central role in shaping

On “Fox News Sunday” last weekend, White House aide Dan Pfeiffer was asked about President Barack Obama’s whereabouts the night of the Sept. 11 attack in Benghazi. This was the night when we lost our first ambassador in 30 years, and when three other Americans were killed in an attack that lasted all night long at multiple locations within the eastern Libyan city. Since the president is commander in chief, one would think where he was and what he did during such an event would be of obvious public concern.

House Oversight and Government Reform Committee Chairman Darrell Issa said embattled IRS official Lois Lerner waived her Fifth Amendment rights and will be hauled back to appear before his panel again. The California Republican said Lerner’s Fifth Amendment right to avoid self-incrimination was voided when she gave an opening statement this morning denying any wrongdoing and professing pride in her government service. “When I asked her her questions from the very beginning, I did so so she could assert her rights prior to any statement,” Issa told POLITICO. “She chose not to do so — so she waived.”
