| President Obama is bypassing the national media and will sit down with local television journalists Wednesday to press his case for Congress to avoid deep spending cuts set to kick in a week from Friday. Mr. Obama will take questions from eight news anchors at television stations across the U.S. in an effort to get his message out about the dire consequences of lawmakers failing to reach a deal and the cuts hitting March 1, according to a White House official. One does indeed get the impression that the *only* reason Obama will deal with media at all is to feed his unbelievable narcissism...
And sadly, what used to pass for ´media´ in the US is now largely in the Obama-arse-kissing business.
Ya´ know things are in twilight zone territory when you can actually get more information on US news stories by visiting Pravda online...

It´s a smart strategy. He can pick the most advantageous markets. Local reporters will gladly accept the script the White House gives them and not deviate. Then they´ll promote the heck out of the interview.
The White House press will get over it and go back to being the fawning lap dogs they´ve always been.

While Obama is not-so-good at being President, he certainly knows how to play the Power Game with skill.
He really doesn´t care who he offends as long as he gets his way in the end. That´s not a bad trait for a President, but Presidential motives should be a little more pure than just insurance against tough questions.

Obama knows that the viewers for the national media news programs are down sharply. He also understands that local stations will run the interviews for 24 to 48 hours, with the messiah always shown with halo. And, by slighting national media, Obama knows that the Brian Williams and Bob Schieffers will feel that they are at fault for hurting Obama´s feelings. Which will make ABC, CBS and NBC that much more compliant to Obama´s wishes. He also knows that local reporters sit in awe in the Oval Office, and won´t risk asking hard questions for fear they will not be invited back. Finally, the opportunity to wear the Monica Lewinsky WH knee pads for Obama appeals to most if not all reporters regardless of their gender.

On the rare occasion that I do see pix of the alphabet talking heads and WH press corps, yes I do view them with contempt, but also I pity them. Too have one shot at life and to choose to be an arse kissing sycophant to an incompetent empty suit chitown thug is beyond me. Contempt and pity is all I offer, they do not merit much more than that.

Karzai also pulled out of peace talks with the Taliban the Obama administration agreed to hold in Qatar, which are to begin Thursday. Obama said his administration had always anticipated "difficult negotiations." It probably wouldn´t have shocked political observers if Sen. Marco Rubio´s job approval ratings had taken a hit since becoming the Republican face of comprehensive immigration reform earlier this year. But the Florida Republican´s numbers in his home state are actually close to their best ever, according to a new Quinnipiac University poll released on Wednesday, though the senator did get low marks from voters for his handling of both immigration and gun control. Rubio had a job approval rating of 51 percent to 35 percent, the survey of registered voters found.

PANORAMA CITY — School board members have approved a plan to rename a San Fernando Valley elementary school after First Lady Michelle Obama. Los Angeles Unified board members voted unanimously Tuesday to name Valley Region Elementary School No. 13 after Mrs. Obama. The campus, which was opened last August to relieve overcrowding at nearby elementary schools, focuses on healthy eating for students, a cause championed by Mrs. Obama’s “Let’s Move” campaign. The First Lady was in Germany on Wednesday as President Obama meets with Prime Minister Angela Merkel and other leaders.

Charlie Rose last night asked President Obama his new Syria policy. The president first objected to it being called a new policy. "I´m not sure you can characterize this as a new policy. This is consistent with the policy that I´ve had throughout," he said. Obama then explained the goal is regional stability, and especially in Syria. "Really, what we´re trying to do is take sides against extremists of all sorts and in favor of people who are in favor of moderation, tolerance, representative government, and over the long-term, stability and prosperity for the people of Syria," said Obama.
