The fiscal crisis plaguing Detroit is now in the hands of Michigan´s governor after a state-appointed review team determined the city was in a financial emergency with "no satisfactory plan" to resolve it. Republican Gov. Rick Snyder has 30 days to decide if Detroit needs an emergency manager to take charge of its finances and spending, and come up with a new plan to get the city out of its financial mess. (Snip)The report also said the city´s bureaucratic structure makes it difficult to solve the financial problems.

Hey...isn´t that the same democratic bureaucracy that is trying to take over healthcare???

Nice to see the Republicans finally get their chance to solve Detroit´s mess

Short of razing the city and turning the land back into farm land that would actually produce something of value, good luck. As for too many of Detroit´s citizens, I hear that Zimbabwe pays $10,000/hour for useless non-workers.

and the Democrats say that it is all about the lack of jobs......I would then ask the question, what types of jobs are the citizens of Detroit prepared to do if offered? Silence......

The next retort from the Dems would be that they also need a Jobs Training Program. Really..My next question would be, since the vast majority are functionally illiterate..can´t read, write or do even basic math, why would you think they could successfully complete any jobs training program?

Who would fund such a program? The answer is....the Obama administration. Oh by the way, each participant would get paid to go to the Jobs Training Program even though they have no paying job today.

Sadly, you cannot "fix" Detroit or any other city that is like Detroit unless the black cultural wasteland is addressed. That will never happen because the blacks would first have to admit that the black family, euphemism, is dysfunctional and is largely the cause of the ills.

Detroit won´t come back until there is a demand for union made vehicles that fall apart at 50k miles -put together by numbskulls who drink, smoke and nap on the job- for lopsidedly high wages earned through extortion of stockholders and customers.
Other than that, I´m really optimistic.

Let them go under and shut down. They need a major correction. I´m sure Obama will bail them out, though, and take care of one of his major voting blocks at our expense.

Can Michigan sell Detroit to Canada?
How about if some of the kind folk at Amway/Center for Free Enterprise in Grand Rapids start a program teaching work ethics?

Around the same time the nation was transfixed on the hunt for the Boston Marathon bombers last month, thieves on the other side of the country pulled off a little-noticed heist -- swiping 559 pounds of explosives from a federal storage facility in Montana. As of Friday, not one ounce of it has been found. The incident, federal officials believe, was not terrorism-related. But it´s the latest to raise security concerns in an age when authorities are warning about the desire of violence-bent terrorists to inflict mass casualties with bombs.

President Obama found himself weathering bipartisan broadsides Wednesday as he sent Congress his 2014 budget proposal, which in its effort to please both sides of the aisle has ended up angering both. The budget arrived on Capitol Hill Wednesday morning, delivered 65 days after the legal deadline. The $3.77 trillion spending plan, which is over 2,000 pages, tries to curb deficits by further raising taxes on top earners and reining in the growth of Social Security.

Former Detroit Mayor Kwame Kilpatrick, once seen as a rising star in Democratic Party politics, was convicted on Monday on two dozen federal charges of corruption and bribery while in office. U.S. prosecutors accused Kilpatrick, 42, his father and a city contractor of widespread corruption, extorting bribes from contractors who wanted to be awarded or keep city contracts, turning the mayor´s office into "Kilpatrick Incorporated" during his seven year tenure.

The Internal Revenue Service on Friday unveiled its proposal to raise tens of billions of dollars through annual fees on health insurers, prompting fierce criticism from industry groups who warn the costs will be passed along to consumers. The proposed rule from President Obama´s healthcare law will be published for public consideration in Monday’s Federal Register. The rule would assess annual fees on most insurers that would total $8 billion next year and rise thereafter, eclipsing $14 billion in 2018, according to the IRS.

Another member of the Washington political media stepped forward Thursday to claim he was threatened by the Obama White House, shortly after the White House denied reports that an adviser threatened famed Watergate journalist Bob Woodward. The latest claim comes from Lanny Davis, who served as counsel to former President Bill Clinton and later went on to write a column for The Washington Times.

President Obama’s political team is fanning out across the country in pursuit of an ambitious goal: raising $50 million to convert his re-election campaign into a powerhouse national advocacy network, a sum that would rank the new group as one of Washington’s biggest lobbying operations. What did President Obama do on the evening of 9/11/12 when our men were under attack in Benghazi? The invaluable Andrew McCarthy reminds us that Obama and Secretary Clinton had a 10:00 p.m. phone call of which many (including, I think, Chris Wallace) have lost sight. This morning when Wallace asked Obama aide Dan Pfeiffer what Obama was up to that evening, Pfeiffer declared the line of inquiry “offensive.” Translation: Obama and his minions would prefer to “move on” and are warning the likes of FNC off:(Snip for video)The Weekly Standard’s Daniel Halper has posted the rush transcript

WASHINGTON – The Internal Revenue Serviced scandal today spread further within the White House and closer to President Obama. White House spokesman Jay Carney today disclosed that Obama’s chief of staff, Dennis McDonough, and other top White House officials had advance warning that the IRS was targeting conservative groups. But he insisted McDonough and the other White House officials purposely kept Obama out of the loop.McDonough “rightly chose not to take action” to inform Obama, Carney told reporters at the daily White House briefing.

The Washington Post on Monday reported that Obama’s Department of Justice was investigating journalists before they started wiretapping the Associated Press – for one, Fox News correspondent James Rosen in 2010. Their headline wasn´t "Obama Team Also Spied on Fox News." Fox wasn´t in the headline, on A-1 or on A-12, where the story continued. Newly obtained court documents “reveal how deeply investigators explored the private communications of a working journalist — and raise the question of how often journalists have been investigated as closely as Rosen was in 2010.” Reporter Ann Marimow began:

A senior adviser to President Obama mounted a combative defense of the administration on Sunday, saying the controversies enveloping the White House were the result of Republican lawmakers’ trying to “drag Washington into a swamp of partisan fishing expeditions, trumped-up hearings and false allegations.”The remarks came from Dan Pfeiffer, a member of the president’s inner circle, as he appeared on all five major Sunday morning talk shows in an effort to move the administration past what commentators have described as a “hell week” of controversy and missteps.

WASHINGTON – White House senior adviser Dan Pfeiffer said Sunday Republicans owe Susan Rice, the U.S. ambassador to the United Nations, an apology for alleging she played a part in formulating the White House’s response to the attacks in Benghazi, Libya, last year that killed four Americans. Pfeiffer said on ABC’s “This Week” that the release of more than 100 pages of Benghazi emails and notes show “beyond a shadow of the doubt” that accusations she tried to change the narrative of what happened in the attacks was false. "And, frankly, I think that many of the Republicans
