| President Barack Obama says his top priority -- the "north star" of his second-term -- is to do "everything we can to grow the economy and create good, middle-class jobs." And that means taking more tax money from wealthy Americans, on top of the higher tax rates that Congress went along with a few months ago. Speaking at the White House on Tuesday, President Obama said Republicans have a choice: "Do you want to see a bunch of first responders lose their jobs because you want to protect some special interest tax loophole?"

Comments: That will guarantee bipartisanship! s/o That is the last thing this miscreant wants. He´s beyond anything I have ever seen in my lifetime in this country. He behaves like a tinhorn dictator.

This morning´s showmanship included a frozen phalanx of uniformed first responders who were undoubtedly ordered to stand there and show no movements or reactions.

Good point #2. I know where I live the police, fire, paramedics, etc are paid by our taxes. I went to a city council meeting last year where budget cuts were debated so we didn´t have to lay any first responders off.

After hearing the litany of vital services that will be cut, people will die from lack of health care, children starving, etc, I am amaze at all that can be funded with the mere $60-billion that would be cut.

This kind of talk should fall under the screaming "FIRE" in a crowded theater rule.
It is designed to cause panic among citizens already on edge.
Teachers and first responders ARE paid by our local taxes...NOT federal.
State taxes pay for the mentally ill, and other services.

President Divisive in action. in my opinion, Obama cannot utter a word in public without lying. at this point, maybe he is so used to it that he no longer even knows he is lying. It is just second nature to him or he is delusional. In the last four years the GOp and various of the Presidents own chosen councils have offered a number of excellent proposals on many facets of our society. He rejected every one of them, because Daddy knows best. which is why we are all looking FORWARD into an abyss.

The first thing a nitwit mayor says when the taxpayers refuse to float a bond issue to redecorate his office or subsidize his golf club membership is to announce that if it doesn´t pass the city will have to fire half the fire and police departments and leave the potholes unfilled.

I´d like to humbly point out that the federal government doesn´t pay any first responders. Under President Obama they have however invested billions in alternative energy companies, AIG, GM, Chrysler, Fannie Mae, Freddie Mac, etc. After bailing them out, his administration then ensured that the executives who had led them to bankruptcy got millions in bonuses. And this is coming up now because the GOP wants to ensure that the Sequester that he dreamed up, lobbied for and signed actually results in reductions to the growth of government. I guess the military fat cats are complaining it will affect their bonuses.

Same old Democrat threat. They will cut everything the middleclass needs first. It usually only amounts to a small portion of the budget. But the threat is to get the taxpayers to give in to tax hikes.
Instead of firetrucks and policemen they could cut: - funding for the arts; - the out of control free cell phones program; - over zealous funding for education that has only resulted in college tuition skyrocketing; - money going to green energy programs that aren´t really green - which is most of them; - Infrastructure projects which aren´t really needed but just pad the pockets of politicians with money that is laundered back to them - you can add more examples

As posters above have plentifully pointed out, it´s our local property taxes that pay for first responders.
Now I´m hearing a clip of Obama´s claim that "parents will be forced to find child care" because "teachers" will be cut in the sequester, too.
What "teachers," one might reasonably ask, is Obama talking about ? Public school teachers too are paid for by local property taxes.
I suspect Obama ia talking about Head Start personnel.
Which reminds me ... when is any MSM reporter going to ask Obama about his own government´s study that corroborated the findings of an earlier study that found that Head Start is ineffective -- with all measurable benefits to participating children disappearing by grade 3?
I seem to remember Obama vowed to eliminate "ineffective" government programs. The reality is, he wants to not only keep wasting billion$ on Head Start, but to vastly expand it as "universal" "free" pre-school.

These days you know what Obama is going to say before he says it. It´s like he has already run out of gas before his second term gets underway. The so-called sequester was Obama´s idea, put out there in an attempt to cow the wimpy Republicans to accept Obama tax increases to stop big military cuts, but it appears that the Republicans are not going to play ball, and that the sequester threat has backfired on Obama.
Obama certainly does not like that and does not want to give the wimpy Republicans any room to explain to the nation where and why the sequester idea came about. Now its up to the Republicans to shove this political hot potato right back on Obama.

You know......Given a choice,I would protect the wealthy over the first responders.
Here´s why ....... If you have enough wealthy people, you can hire as many first responders as you want. If no one is paying taxes, you cant pay for those services.

In a new editorial, the folks at National Review came out strongly against the immigration plan being sponsored by the "Gang of Eight," a group of Senators that includes Marco Rubio (R-FL), calling the bill "Rubio´s Folly." National Review urges Senator Rubio to vote against the bill he has helped craft. It slams the proposed legislation as, "an amnesty-first, enforcement-maybe program drawn up mainly to reflect the priorities of 11 million citizens of other countries rather than the concerns of more than 300 million citizens of the United States." The editors point out that many of the

A pair of centrist senators introduced a bill Wednesday to soften the employer mandate in President Obama´s healthcare law. The healthcare law requires employers to offer coverage to employees who work more than 30 hours per week. Some employers have said they will reduce workers´ hours to avoid the mandate. Sens. Joe Donnelly (D-Ind.) and Susan Collins (R-Maine) proposed a bill to move the threshold to 40 hours per week, saying the employer mandate should match the traditional definition of a full-time worker. "What we´ve tried to do is be reflective of the businesses we work with,"

Marco Rubio made another one of his seemingly endless appearances on Sean Hannity’s program to advocate amnesty legislation. Rubio told Hannity that he has opposed amendments by Republican Senators to improve the legislation’s enforcement provisions because a new enforcement provision will be proposed tomorrow that is tougher and more effective than what has been proposed so far. Rand Paul’s amendment, which Rubio voted against, would have given Congress, not the Department of Homeland Security, the ultimate authority to determine if the border is effectively secure. It would also have included enhanced security measures, such as requiring a

To a remarkable degree, liberalism has been institutionalized as an official ideology, funded by your tax dollars. This editorial in Investors Business Daily explains, in shocking detail, how Obamacare is being used to fund Democratic Party operatives and drive Democratic Party enrollment: The Obama administration granted a whopping $910 million to California to set up its insurance exchange. That money is not for bandages, surgery, nurses and doctors to care for the sick. …Shockingly, the $910 million is slated for bureaucracy, including rich compensation packages for exchange employees ($360,000 a year for the executive director) and contracts for

The popularity of Obamacare has crashed to its lowest level in nearly two years, according to a new Kaiser Family Foundation poll. Kaiser´s monthly tracking poll found that just 35 percent have a favorable view of the health reform being put into place Jan. 1 while 43 percent view it unfavorably. The favorability rating of Obamacare has been worse only once, in October 2011, when it fell to 34 percent. Not only is the June poll bad news for the president as his administration struggles to have the health reform program ready for people to begin signing up

Americans are already wary of the federal government having collected their phone records, but now we have Rep. Peter King, R-N.Y., setting up a slippery slope of more and more data collection. Earlier today, a Washington Examiner editorial warned that "if phone records are useful now in stopping terrorist attacks, how long before politicians and bureaucrats decide archiving the entire phone call would be even more useful? How long before the limitations and safeguards now in place are set aside?" Within a few hours, King provided an illustration of precisely what the Examiner editors fear. Responding to a

Sen. Marco Rubio (R-Fla.) is feeling the heat as potential GOP allies are now turning against his immigration reform bill. Republican colleagues who were previously viewed as possible “yes” votes are keeping their distance from the 1,075-page measure. On Wednesday, conservative activists ripped Rubio and Sen. John McCain (R-Ariz.) — both sponsors of the bipartisan immigration measure — at a Capitol Hill rally. The crowd, which was protesting the bill’s effort to put millions of illegal immigrants on a path to citizenship, booed at the mention of Rubio’s name during the six-hour event.

A group of whistleblowers, including a number of aviation experts, have come forward in a new documentary to claim that the official explanation for the crash of TWA Flight 800 was wrong and a gas tank explosion did not bring down the flight off the coast of Long Island 17 years ago. However, the six whistleblowers, all part of the original investigation team, stopped short of saying the plane was shot down. Flight 800, a Boeing 747, had just taken off from JFK airport with 230 people aboard on July 17, 1996 enroute to Paris when it exploded

An attorney whose firm represents two Benghazi whistleblowers said Gen. Martin Dempsey, chairman of the Joint Chiefs of Staff, lied to the Senate when he said there was never a “stand down” order during the Benghazi attack on Sept. 11, 2012. “What was fascinating is that he explained his lie to them,” Joe DiGenova, an attorney representing one of the whistleblowers, told CNSNews.com. “He actually said they were sent to Tripoli. They were needed in Benghazi,” said DiGenova, a former U.S. attorney, now with the Washington firm of DiGenova & Toensing.

Likening religious schools to segregation--a racist system that forced blacks to attend different schools and use different facilities than whites in the American South--President Barack Obama told a town hall meeting for youth in Belfast, Northern Ireland on Monday that there should not be Catholic and Protestant schools because such schools cause division. "Because issues like segregated schools and housing, lack of jobs and opportunity--symbols of history that are a source of pride for some and pain for others--these are not tangential to peace; they’re essential to it,"

Amid a steady rise of backlash, Edward Snowden, the 29-year-old former National Security Agency contractor who was the source of a spring of leaks about the agency´s surveillance methods, conducted a live chat on The Guardian´s website Monday morning. Judging from some of the pointed questions he´s been asked and the reaction to newly leaked revelations over the past few days, it´s clear that much of the sympathy and support Snowden had built up for his early exposures is eroding. Many Americans supported his decision to leak information about a pair of National Security Agency surveillance programs, which, he detailed, gathered information

Listening to Barack Obama give his speech in Belfast on Monday, it was hard not to stifle a yawn. I kept waiting for the part when he would say something interesting, but, about three quarters of the way through, realised it wasn’t going to come. Judging from television pictures some of his young audience felt the same, after the initial rush of euphoria of receiving the rock star president in their midst had passed. This is not surprising, for we had already heard this number about the inspirational role of the Northern Ireland peace process and the Emerald Isle’s

Charlie Rose last night asked President Obama his new Syria policy. The president first objected to it being called a new policy. "I´m not sure you can characterize this as a new policy. This is consistent with the policy that I´ve had throughout," he said. Obama then explained the goal is regional stability, and especially in Syria. "Really, what we´re trying to do is take sides against extremists of all sorts and in favor of people who are in favor of moderation, tolerance, representative government, and over the long-term, stability and prosperity for the people of Syria," said Obama.

This is the thirtieth anniversary of the publication of How Democracies Perish, an analysis of the spread of world communism by Jean-François Revel, one of freedom´s most serious French defenders since Tocqueville. At the heart of this work, Revel details "The Tools of Communist Expansion," among which the most relevant for understanding our current situation comes in Chapter 16, "Ideological Warfare and Disinformation." The profound simplicity of Revel´s nuts and bolts account of totalitarianism´s Cold War advance, far from being obsolete
