| President Obama will look to ratchet up pressure on congressional Republicans to strike a deal averting the sequester with an event Tuesday highlighting the impact of the $85 billion in cuts on the nation´s first-responders. Obama, returning from a vacation with just 10 days before the March 1 deadline when the across-the-board cuts are triggered, is scheduled to speak at 10:45 a.m. at the White House. According to an administration official, he will be joined at the event by emergency management personnel who could face furloughs or layoffs if the sequester takes place.
|
Comments: 0bama is speaking right now with his usual people used as props. He is railing against sequestration (which was his idea) and bashing the Republicans that no budget is passed that is "balanced." It is one of the most infuriating things I have ever seen. It is filled with lies.

No surprise here. This sequester must go into effect as it is the only actual reduction in spending we are going to see this year.

The smartest thing the repubs could do is nothing. Let the cuts take effect. Stand up and say its the only way to start the process of cutting back.
Pin it on zippy since its his.
Otherwise, they´ll be rolled again.

The key is for the Republicans to keep repeating that if Obama thinks sequestration is such a bad idea, why did he suggest it in the first place?

Let it happen. The cuts are so small the government will adapt (as every other organization does when they must balance their budgets). This is the continuing con job of Obama, Democrats and all Rino´s.

Oh, I forgot, there is another point to be made. Republicans need to ask in a government the size of ours, how come the only cuts Obama can come up with are to necessary services? They need to list some of the things that Obama isn´t cutting and ask if people really believe that those are more important than first responders (or whatever area Obama is claiming will be hurt by sequestration).

The sequester will not, I repeat, will NOT, go into effect.
Your wishy-washy, spineless, unmotivated and foolish republican politicians will ride in to save the day for their president, whom they adore, since they do everything he asks, no, ORDERS them to do.

As usual, Obama tries to blame others for the failure of his own policies.
Obama wanted the sequester, Obama requested the sequester, Obama got his sequester. NOW he OPPOSES the sequester?
Where IS Obama´s plan to make meaningful cuts in federal spending, INCLUDING entitlement reform? He has had over 4 years and all of the resources of the Executive Branch to develop and present a detailed, written plan and, as usual, he has FAILED.

0bama threatened the Republicans with sequester; it was his idea. He got the tax increase on the rich, however, his friends like Facebook and GE will pay no taxes at all, and actually Facebook gets millions back (after having paid NO taxes). 0bama refuses to deal with the deficit, he refuses to come up with a budget, he keeps spending which increases our unsustainable debt, and now he wants to "press" the GOP on a sequester deal. What is wrong with this man? He just got back from a million dollar vacation; you would think he could come up with something better than pressing the GOP.

#7 has a very good point. The sequester is an across the board reduction in growth. So no one will miss out on Head Start or school lunches.

Delivering her only speech at a high school graduation this year, first lady Michelle Obama joked about the failures her husband, President Obama, has encountered in life as she told a graduating class of high school seniors in Nashville, Tenn. today that in order to achieve success in life, they must first experience failure. “When something doesn’t go your way, you’ve just got to adjust. You’ve got to dig deep and work like crazy, and that’s when you’ll find out what you’re really made of during those hard times, but you can only do that

Shortly before the second-term inauguration of Barack Obama this January, I wrote the following of my worries over the Obama way of doing business: But the untruths and hypocrisy hover in the partisan atmosphere and incrementally and insidiously undermine each new assertion that we hear from the president — some of them perhaps necessary and logical. Indeed, the more emphatically he adds “make no mistake about it,” “let me be perfectly clear,” “I’m not kidding,” or the ubiquitous “me,” “my,” and “I” to each new assertion, the more a growing number of people will come to know

The idea that Nancy Pelosi would again become Speaker after the 2014 elections was always something of a Democrat fantasy. It may be a good story to get a lefty to sleep at night, but it wasn´t likely to happen. In the last 100 years, only once has a President´s party picked up seats in the sixth year of a term. Redistricting in 2011 has put many of the seats the Democrats need out of reach. Whatever confluence of events Democrats envisioned would allow them to retake the House have been swept aside by the IRS scandal.

The intrepid Sharyl Attkisson of CBS News has been one of the few reporters attempting to dig deep into controversial stories, stories that President Obama would rather see go away. But after her work on Fast & Furious and Benghazi, she is now reporting that she´s been shut out of the information loop by the White House. Attkisson was one of the few members of the progressive media establishment interested in covering the Fast & Furious scandal, as well as the Benghazi. She has been so far reaching in her work that she was dubbed a "persistent voice

Most of us interact with the Internal Revenue Service once a year at tax time. But President Obama´s Affordable Care Act health law puts us under the IRS´s thumb all the time. The IRS has a history of using leaks and delays to punish people based on their politics. The latest is news that the IRS delayed processing requests for tax exempt status from the Obama administration’s conservative critics, and even leaked information about them to the press. It’s frightening, because starting in January 2014, the Obama health care law vastly expands

Virginia Republicans have chosen have conservative minister E.W. Jackson as the nominee for lieutenant governor — making him, according to the Associated Press, the first black candidate the party has nominated for statewide office since 1988. In the past, it appears Jackson has made some charged remarks about President Obama. As BuzzFeed’s Andrew Kaczynski noted, Jackson is the man behind STAND America PAC, which aims to “recruit and support conservative black candidates to run against liberals in Congressional Black Caucus districts.” Jackson also ran a blog where he wrote about Obama’s “Muslim perspective” toward the world and Israel.

There will be an event on Capitol Hill this week that will tell us a lot about the future of comprehensive immigration reform. On Wednesday, the House Judiciary Committee will hold a hearing on the Senate Gang of Eight reform proposal. It doesn’t have any great official purpose; the Gang bill hasn’t even made it through the Senate Judiciary Committee, much less the full Senate, and is not before the House. So the House committee meeting will be all talk. But the session could tell us a lot about whether House Republicans will be able to

What did President Obama do on the evening of 9/11/12 when our men were under attack in Benghazi? The invaluable Andrew McCarthy reminds us that Obama and Secretary Clinton had a 10:00 p.m. phone call of which many (including, I think, Chris Wallace) have lost sight. This morning when Wallace asked Obama aide Dan Pfeiffer what Obama was up to that evening, Pfeiffer declared the line of inquiry “offensive.” Translation: Obama and his minions would prefer to “move on” and are warning the likes of FNC off:(Snip for video)The Weekly Standard’s Daniel Halper has posted the rush transcript

WASHINGTON - There were new questions Saturday night concerning if anyone in the White House was aware of the IRS´ targeting of conservative groups. Inspector General Russell George said he informed a deputy at the Treasury Department in June of 2012 about the probe into the IRS. The Treasury Department confirmed the timeline but said they did not know the details of the investigation until last week.(Snip)Marcus Owens ran the tax-exempt division at the IRS for 10 years. He said it isn´t difficult to figure out who´s doing what at the agency.

PRESIDENT OBAMA: You are the mantle of Frederick Douglass and Booker T. Washington and Ralph Bunche and Langston Hughes and George Washington Carver and Ralph Abernathy and Thurgood Marshall and, yes, Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. These men were many things to many people and they knew full well the role that racism played in their life. It began in earnest last Friday. A flash mob of latte drinking, tofu eating media that has done its best to quell, rather than fan the flames of truth, turned on one of their own. Jay Carney lay bludgeoned at the base of the podium, a victim of friendly fire. Ironically, the attack was reminiscent of the one in Benghazi he has repeatedly denied the Administration he represents bears any responsibility for. “Changed twelve times?!” came the cries. And with good reason. We were misled; no, lied to.

Treasury Secretary Jack Lew on Friday urged congressional leaders to raise the debt limit and insisted that the White House is not going to negotiate over the increase because lawmakers have "no choice." "We will not negotiate over the debt limit," Lew wrote. "The creditworthiness of the United States is non-negotiable. The question of whether the country must pay obligations it has already incurred is not open to debate." Lew said that while President Obama is willing to discuss plans to reduce the nation´s deficit with Congress, those talks must be kept separate from any effort to raise the nation´s debt cap.

Washington – Sen. Claire McCaskill, D-MO, issued a video statement Friday in response to reports that the Internal Revenue Service unfairly targeted conservative nonprofit groups. (Snip) “There’s a reason Lady Justice wears a blindfold in America. That is because in America, we don’t apply the law based on who you are, who you know, or what you believe. We apply the law equally.” “We should not only fire the head of the IRS, which has occurred, but we’ve got to go down the line and find every single person who had anything to do with this and make sure

"Can you see in your mind´s eye a way that this might not have been political, that this was a misguided stupid way to sort, but that they didn´t intend it to be some kind of political attempt to harass the Tea Party?" So actually asked CNN´s Candy Crowley of her guest Sen.
