| Caracas - President Hugo Chávez´s return to Venezuela after more than two months in Cuba has been taken by many of his followers as evidence of his recovery from the toughest stage of his illness; hence, the festive mood near Bolívar Square, the meeting point of most of them. Before 7 a.m. in the morning, people started to rally on the "hot corner," downtown Caracas. By 11 a.m. approximately 300 people were present, all of them singing mottos in favor of the president and thanking Cuba for having taken care of him. Many people would go to Bolívar Square by midday wearing t-shirts which read

Comments: I am totally befuddled. I guess that 0bama can now use this miraculous recovery of Hugo Chávez in Cuba as an endorsement for his socialized medicine stand.
But, then again. Article doesn´t say if it was his "body" that was returned...

Tomorrow´s Washington Post headline:
Obamas return from separate golf and ski weekends.
Thousands of federal workers stood outside a frigid White House to welcome home a relaxed and golf schooled President Obama today. Several hours later, the revelers also cheered the return of Mrs Obama, her children, mother and 40 close friends from her splendid weekend in Aspen.
The crowd wore sweat shirts which read "I am Obama." However, they were not spontaneous attendees, but public servants instructed to appear at the WH.
About six blocks from the White House, loud speakers were placed to play songs extolling the president and First Lady.
At dozens of college campuses across the nation, rallies were being simultaneously held to welcome back the Obamas from yet another vacation from DC. The campus events were convened by the WH Czar for Communication and Organizing for Obama.

I have always suspected that Chavez has been using this ´crisis´ to smoke out his opposition. It sure did that. Expect some jailings/disappearances real soon.

Washington - The president and chief executive officer of The Associated Press on Sunday called the government’s secret seizure of two months of reporters’ phone records “unconstitutional” and said the news cooperative had not ruled out legal action against the Justice Department. Gary Pruitt, in his first television interviews since it was revealed the Justice Department subpoenaed phone records of AP reporters and editors, said the move already has had a chilling effect on journalism. Pruitt said the seizure has made sources less willing to talk to AP journalists and, in the long term, could limit

Jerusalem - Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu held out the prospect on Sunday of further Israeli strikes inside Syria, pledging to act to prevent advanced weapons from reaching Hezbollah and other militant groups. (Snip) In public remarks at the weekly meeting of his cabinet, Netanyahu made no direct mention of those attacks, but said Israel was prepared to take action in the future and was "preparing for every scenario" in the Syrian conflict. Israel had a policy "to prevent, as much as possible, the leakage of advanced weapons to Hezbollah and terror elements", he said.

If you had been looking up at the moon at the right moment on March 17, you could have seen an unusual flash of light – a one-second burst of heat caused by the impact of a large meteoroid. No telescope required. “For about one second, the impact site was glowing like a 4th magnitude star,” NASA said in reporting the news Friday. This meteoroid was the size of a small boulder, and was travelling very fast. NASA estimates the size at 0.3 to 0.4 meters wide, and the speed at 56,000 m.p.h. The resulting explosion delivered a force equal to 5 tons of TNT. NASA puts a footnote on the word

Boston - The controversies swirling around the Obama administration — from the IRS targeting of conservative groups to lingering questions about last year´s terrorist attack in Benghazi, Libya — are threatening to engulf Massachusetts´ special U.S. Senate election. The troubles could make it harder for Republican candidate Gabriel Gomez to turn the focus of the race back on jobs, the economy and budget as he tries to tie his rival and longtime Democratic Congressman Edward Markey to the nation´s sluggish recovery. But the episodes could also prove problematic for Markey if the public begins

Moscow - Ryan Fogle, the man Russia´s security services claimed to have captured last week as he tried to recruit a Russian to spy for the United States, left Russia on Sunday, NTV television reported. Fogle checked in on a flight at Moscow´s Sheremetyevo airport, NTV said. The Russian Foreign Ministry had earlier declared Fogle, a third secretary at the US Embassy in Moscow, persona non grata for "activity incompatible with his diplomatic status." He was told to leave Russia by May 20. The Russian Federal Security Service claimed last Tuesday to have detained Fogle in the act of meeting

President Obama told the graduating class at Morehouse College, the country´s preeminent historically black college, on Sunday said there is "no longer any room for excuses" for this generation of African-American men and that it was time for their generation to step up professionally and in their personal lives. Minneapolis - Wide-ranging sentences handed down in the yearslong federal investigation into recruiting and financing for the terrorist group al-Shabab have kindled a mix of outrage, confusion and relief among members of Minnesota´s large Somali community. Some say the 10- and 20-year prison sentences for two Minnesota women who sent money to the group were too harsh, especially since two men who traveled to Somalia and joined al-Shabab got three years. The attorney for one man sentenced to 20 years in prison has already filed a notice of appeal; more are expected.

What did President Obama do on the evening of 9/11/12 when our men were under attack in Benghazi? The invaluable Andrew McCarthy reminds us that Obama and Secretary Clinton had a 10:00 p.m. phone call of which many (including, I think, Chris Wallace) have lost sight. This morning when Wallace asked Obama aide Dan Pfeiffer what Obama was up to that evening, Pfeiffer declared the line of inquiry “offensive.” Translation: Obama and his minions would prefer to “move on” and are warning the likes of FNC off:(Snip for video)The Weekly Standard’s Daniel Halper has posted the rush transcript

WASHINGTON - There were new questions Saturday night concerning if anyone in the White House was aware of the IRS´ targeting of conservative groups. Inspector General Russell George said he informed a deputy at the Treasury Department in June of 2012 about the probe into the IRS. The Treasury Department confirmed the timeline but said they did not know the details of the investigation until last week.(Snip)Marcus Owens ran the tax-exempt division at the IRS for 10 years. It began in earnest last Friday. A flash mob of latte drinking, tofu eating media that has done its best to quell, rather than fan the flames of truth, turned on one of their own. Jay Carney lay bludgeoned at the base of the podium, a victim of friendly fire. Ironically, the attack was reminiscent of the one in Benghazi he has repeatedly denied the Administration he represents bears any responsibility for. “Changed twelve times?!” came the cries. And with good reason. We were misled; no, lied to.

In the wake of one of the worst abuses of government power in recent history, many are rushing to frame the Internal Revenue Service scandal as simply an attack on conservative activists. That view risks creating a partisan political football and misses a fundamentally scarier abuse that exceeds the scandals of Watergate or any other prior government abuse. The IRS has admitted that since May 2010 it targeted grassroots-conservative organizations that had applied for tax-exempt status, unfairly subjecting them to rigorous scrutiny due to their political leanings. Such groups were told they were required to comply with IRS requests,

Treasury Secretary Jack Lew on Friday urged congressional leaders to raise the debt limit and insisted that the White House is not going to negotiate over the increase because lawmakers have "no choice." "We will not negotiate over the debt limit," Lew wrote. "The creditworthiness of the United States is non-negotiable. The question of whether the country must pay obligations it has already incurred is not open to debate." Lew said that while President Obama is willing to discuss plans to reduce the nation´s deficit with Congress, those talks must be kept separate from any effort to raise the nation´s debt cap.

Washington – Sen. Claire McCaskill, D-MO, issued a video statement Friday in response to reports that the Internal Revenue Service unfairly targeted conservative nonprofit groups. (Snip) “There’s a reason Lady Justice wears a blindfold in America. That is because in America, we don’t apply the law based on who you are, who you know, or what you believe. We apply the law equally.” “We should not only fire the head of the IRS, which has occurred, but we’ve got to go down the line and find every single person who had anything to do with this and make sure

The Internal Revenue Service´s watchdog told top Treasury officials around June 2012 he was investigating allegations the tax agency had targeted conservative groups, for the first time indicating that Obama administration officials were aware of the explosive matter in the midst of the president´s re-election campaign. The disclosure to the Treasury general counsel and the deputy secretary was a cursory one, according to J. Russell George, the Treasury inspector general for tax administration. He said he didn´t reveal conclusions of the probe, which was in its early stages, and his disclosure came as part
