Former Chairman of the Democratic National Committee Howard Dean, speaking with Scott Rasmussen on What America Thinks, said that “somebody has to tell the middle class that either your taxes are going to go up or your programs are going to get cut or else we´re going to go into financial oblivion, and nobody really wants to tell them that.” (Snip) Dean also said: "Inside Washington, people lose all their perspective and they end up getting sucked into this Washington culture which is pretty much unlike anything else in the country."

Comments:
Dear Howard - My taxes did go up. Working father of four now has $180 less a month due to increase in social security tax. Obama already increased everyones taxes (not to mention the price of gas).

My personal family economy is in a depression. I have stopped spending and am saving as much as possible.

Cut the programs.
It is the only way to balance the budget.
There really isn´t any choice when you do the math. If taxes were raised enough to balance the budget then average Americans would not have enough money left to buy food.

I think he´s talking to the wrong "class".

Wait till they figure out that inflation caused by deficits is also a tax.

Let´s start with that 0bamaphone program!

But..but...but...the President said that he would not raise taxes on anyone making less than $250,000, or was it $200,000. Not one dime in new taxes, I say.

I´m going to be irreverent here and call him a LIAR.

Middle class to Howard Dean "Cut the programs". Simple enough for your elitist mindset?

Reply 9 - Posted by: dittohead, 2/18/2013 5:46:12 PM     (No. 9183673)

He is talking to the wrong class - what programs?? I get nothing from the government but I pay out the wazoo and my taxes have gone up. Talk to the free loaders, Dean. Tell them they need to START paying taxes and have their programs cut.

Reply 10 - Posted by: curious1, 2/18/2013 5:50:11 PM     (No. 9183680)

Fine, cut taxes and we get to choose which ´programs´ and departments get eliminated - not just ´cut´, but dismantled and not absorbed into another federal department.

Reply 11 - Posted by: Northern Redman, 2/18/2013 5:53:29 PM     (No. 9183687)

#7 - I could think of lots of things to call him, but I´d get banned from the site.

Reply 12 - Posted by: KTWO, 2/18/2013 6:06:19 PM     (No. 9183702)

Dean is right. So is OP.

Speaking of Cuts is a distraction. Spending will get reduced when Washington stops programs and eliminates agencies. They have to learn that some things need not be done at all.

Taxes have already gone up but no programs ended, In fact the biggest peacetime program in history, ACA, is just heginning.

Fantastic proposal by Howard Arrrgh! Dean. He is telling Americans that ObamaCare can be cut. Bravo! Will save $2.2 trillion. And we thought he was just a another Democratic loon.

It is also time to tell the 49% that do not pay any taxes it´s time to fork a bit over. You pay nothing, get back thousands on unearned tax credits and you keep wanting more. You are the problem.

Good idea, Dean. Cut all the programs and cut all the taxes. I´ll buy that.

The Republican have been saying that for 4 years. They want to cut spending though, not raise taxes. Where there are 3 government programs doing the same thing, they want to cut 2 of them. When the federal government is capitalizing and subsidizing energy forms that can´t compete on a level playing field, the GOP wants to stop. The GOP want to meet the the air and water standards that were in effect in 2008, not dream up new one that will shutter efficient US facilities while the Chinese crank out pollution at an astounding rate.

Democrats do not understand that raising taxes retards growth in the economy. They seem to think it has no effect, that is, if they consider it at all. Ultimately, raising taxes hurts the very people they want to help.

Clearly not enough Socialist votes coming from the middles. Time to redouble the bribes directed toward the welfares and increase spending on voter fraud technologies.

(Yawn) Marxist druids always like to play the "Takers" against the "Makers".

If you launch enough lifeboats, eventually no one knows how to swim.

I think Dean, who quit his church over their refusal to fund a green bike path, should reflect upon why he isn´t relevent anymore.

How many times do we need to tell Howard Dean we want the education, labor, energy departments shut down. Quit paying the Palestinians, Howard, and quit paying the Egyptians, Howard, and quit paying illegal immigrants bills, Howard, quit preschool spending, Howard. Defund PBS and NPR, Howard. Who gives a crumb about funding for the arts, Howard, save that money.

Go ahead and cut the police force, they are getting to be nothing more lurking parasites who just suck more money out of our wallets. In the near future they´ll be banging on our doors wanting to inspect our homes for weapons. I can live without their "help". And teachers? Don´t even get me started. Cut away Howie!!!! Public servants are people who I pay against my will to make my life miserable.

Obama administration officials who were in key positions on Sept. 11, 2012, acknowledge that a range of mistakes were made the night of the attacks on the U.S. missions in Benghazi, and in messaging to Congress and the public in the aftermath. The officials spoke to CBS News in a series of interviews and communications under the condition of anonymity so that they could be more frank in their assessments. They do not all agree on the list of mistakes and it's important to note that they universally claim that any errors or missteps did not cost lives and reflect "incompetence rather than malice or cover up.

In the wake of one of the worst abuses of government power in recent history, many are rushing to frame the Internal Revenue Service scandal as simply an attack on conservative activists. That view risks creating a partisan political football and misses a fundamentally scarier abuse that exceeds the scandals of Watergate or any other prior government abuse. The IRS has admitted that since May 2010 it targeted grassroots-conservative organizations that had applied for tax-exempt status, unfairly subjecting them to rigorous scrutiny due to their political leanings. Such groups were told they were required to comply with IRS requests,

Treasury Secretary Jack Lew on Friday urged congressional leaders to raise the debt limit and insisted that the White House is not going to negotiate over the increase because lawmakers have "no choice." "We will not negotiate over the debt limit," Lew wrote. "The creditworthiness of the United States is non-negotiable. The question of whether the country must pay obligations it has already incurred is not open to debate." Lew said that while President Obama is willing to discuss plans to reduce the nation´s deficit with Congress, those talks must be kept separate from any effort to raise the nation´s debt cap.

The Internal Revenue Service´s watchdog told top Treasury officials around June 2012 he was investigating allegations the tax agency had targeted conservative groups, for the first time indicating that Obama administration officials were aware of the explosive matter in the midst of the president´s re-election campaign. The disclosure to the Treasury general counsel and the deputy secretary was a cursory one, according to J. Russell George, the Treasury inspector general for tax administration. He said he didn´t reveal conclusions of the probe, which was in its early stages, and his disclosure came as part

The lawmaker leading the charge to investigate the Benghazi terror attack on Friday subpoenaed the co-author of a report that slammed the State Department but didn´t interview Hillary Clinton. House Oversight Committee Chairman Darrell Issa (R-Calif.) formally demanded that retired ambassador Thomas Pickering submit to being deposed by the committee next Thursday. The subpoena comes in the wake of a series of acrimonious public exchanges this week between the two men. Issa didn´t issue a subpoena to former chairman of the Joint Chiefs of Staff Michael Mullen, who co-authored the Benghazi report with Pickering.

A healthcare provider has sued the Internal Revenue Service and 15 of its agents, charging they wrongfully seized 60 million medical records from 10 million Americans. The name of the provider is not yet known, United Press International said. But Courthouse News Service said the suit claims the agency violated the Fourth Amendment in 2011, when agents executed a search warrant for financial data on one employee – and that led to the seizure of information on 10 million, including state judges. The search warrant did not specify that the IRS could take medical information, UPI said.
