Jerusalem—Israel will award President Barack Obama the country’s Presidential Medal of Distinction during his upcoming visit. Israeli President Shimon Peres’ office said Monday that Obama will be recognized for his ‘‘unique and significant contribution to strengthening the State of Israel and the security of its citizens.’’ Obama is scheduled to visit Israel in March — his first as president. Obama has often had a tense relationship with Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu over the Jewish state’s West Bank settlement policies and the lack of peace process with the Palestinians. But Peres and the committee behind the award noted Obama’s overall

This is like the Nobel Peace Prize given to Obama prior to his doing squat. Israel is giving him this aware in hopes that he will see which side are the good guys. Look, Israel is the victim, and needs to use every opportunity to gain support. So, they swallow their pride and attempt to bribe Obama with a meaninless award. God bless them, because Israel needs every blessing they can get.

#9 I agree with #12. Thank God people can still have a sense of humor.

Like #12, I feel sick these days. Somewhat off topic but also relevant if you will endulge me. For years I did nothing but buy and read books about WWII German Theater. One of those books was entitled The Case Against Adolph Eichmann

A visitor to my house looked at the bookcase and wanted to know who the Nazi was in the house. A lot of the hardback books had a twisted cross on the jackets. Those books were Winds of War, War and Remembrance, The Rise and Fall of the Third Reich, Inside the Third Reich, The Life and Death of Adolf Hitler, and many more - none of which glorify Hitler.

The visitor evidently didn´t see the books on Eisenhower, Truman, Raol Wallenberg, Einstein, Eric Bonhoeffer, Churchill, and other great men of WWII era.
After I looked at my books, I decided to take the jackets off my books so that my books wouldn´t give subsequent visitors the wrong impression.

All my reading has given me enough information to feel very, very concerned about the future of our country. Personally, I think Senator Joe McCarthy got a bad rap back in the 1950´s - he may have been more correct than we or even he knew.

Obviously, my bookcase has nothing to do with the article except why I feel that giving Obama an Israeli prestigious medal is like giving Hitler an award for insisting all Jewish-owned stores have a star of David on them so that Kristallnacht will be successful.

I suspect this has something to do with the Iron Dome anti-missile project developed jointly between US and Israel that is currently protecting Israelis from missiles fired from Gaza. Obama gave it strong support under the radar.....there´s a lot that goes on in international diplomacy that we have no clue about. I expect the Israelis know what they are doing.

Not only that, but they´re minting a one-off for Stinky, made of zinc! Usually struck in gold, that was just too-commonplace. Even a bunch of Olympic competitors get gold medals.

Ever-thorough, the Israelis checked with our USDA and FDA, only to find that their first-choice material of... "organic matter" would not be admitted to the US on Barry´s return.

Seriously, I´m on the floor here over this! It´s great.

Doesn´t anyone else see the backhand in this "award"?

See #25. Who has studied human nature longer or more closely than the Jewish people, rabbis in particular? Have you folks never read any of their writing, even contemporary articles? They get it. Except for their decorum, I´d half-expect the ceremony to close with the audience rising as one, turning their backs to him, and bending over as they all drop their pants. [I´d take the pay-per-view on that, for sure.]

Hopefully, that medal they are giving him is a boat anchor, to hang around his neck.

Whatever else happens as a result of the multiple controversies that have engulfed the administration, one thing is clear: President Obama has failed to meet one of the most important goals he set out when he was first elected, which was to demonstrate that activist government could also be smart government. (Snip) As he put it then: “I think what you saw in this election was people saying, ‘Yes, we don’t want some big, bureaucratic, ever-expanding state. On the other hand, we don’t want a state that’s dysfunctional, that doesn’t believe in its mission, that can’t carry out

Richmond, Va.—Virginia´s activist conservative attorney general has won the Republican Party´s gubernatorial nomination by acclamation. At the GOP´s statewide convention, thousands of conservatives and tea party followers who dominated the Richmond Coliseum on Saturday roared their unanimous support for Ken Cuccinelli. He was unopposed for the nomination and is generally beloved by the tea party for his aggressive challenges to federal mandates. Cuccinelli is an abortion foe who was the first state attorney general to challenge President Barack Obama´s health care reforms in 2010. He faces former Democratic National Committee chairman and Clinton family protege Terry McAuliffe

The House voted to repeal ObamaCare on Thursday for the third time since Republicans took over the chamber in 2011. Only two Democrats sided with Republicans in the party-line 229-195 vote — Jim Matheson (Utah) and Mike McIntyre (N.C.). All Republicans voted in favor of repeal. This is the 37th time the House GOP has voted to repeal or defund at least part of the bill, but this latest bill will also not become law given Democrats´ control of the Senate. Still, many House Republicans had clamored for the bill from Rep. Michele Bachmann (R-Minn.) to be considered,

Obama administration officials who were in key positions on Sept. 11, 2012, acknowledge that a range of mistakes were made the night of the attacks on the U.S. missions in Benghazi, and in messaging to Congress and the public in the aftermath. The officials spoke to CBS News in a series of interviews and communications under the condition of anonymity so that they could be more frank in their assessments. They do not all agree on the list of mistakes and it's important to note that they universally claim that any errors or missteps did not cost lives and reflect "incompetence rather than malice or cover up.

His veneer of passion was so transparent that you could see him trying to summon his old-time magic by pushing the buttons

In the wake of one of the worst abuses of government power in recent history, many are rushing to frame the Internal Revenue Service scandal as simply an attack on conservative activists. That view risks creating a partisan political football and misses a fundamentally scarier abuse that exceeds the scandals of Watergate or any other prior government abuse. The IRS has admitted that since May 2010 it targeted grassroots-conservative organizations that had applied for tax-exempt status, unfairly subjecting them to rigorous scrutiny due to their political leanings. Such groups were told they were required to comply with IRS requests,

STANDING BEFORE reporters Thursday, President Obama declined an invitation to compare the recent scandals weighing down his administration with those that forced President Nixon to resign in 1974. So allow us to do the work for him: There is no comparison. Nixon, in a series of crimes that collectively came to be known as Watergate, directed from the White House and Justice Department a concerted campaign against those he perceived as political enemies, in the process subverting the FBI, the IRS, other government agencies and the electoral process to his nefarious purposes. Mr. Obama has done nothing of the kind.

The lawmaker leading the charge to investigate the Benghazi terror attack on Friday subpoenaed the co-author of a report that slammed the State Department but didn´t interview Hillary Clinton. House Oversight Committee Chairman Darrell Issa (R-Calif.) formally demanded that retired ambassador Thomas Pickering submit to being deposed by the committee next Thursday. The subpoena comes in the wake of a series of acrimonious public exchanges this week between the two men. Issa didn´t issue a subpoena to former chairman of the Joint Chiefs of Staff Michael Mullen, who co-authored the Benghazi report with Pickering.
