Recent high-profile shootings in the state are unlikely to shift the ground of this debate.. A little more than two weeks ago, a Kaufman County prosecutor was gunned down outside the courthouse where he worked. The shooters are at large.
Okay, Rick.. how exactly does the cold blooded murder of a prosecutor help the gun control cause get more gun laws passed, if the laws against murder were ignored?

The usual loaded ´anti-Texas´ article from the NYT. It overlooks the fact that the Texas legislature is currently looking into the issue of the mentally ill - which is why the gun issue is in the news right now in the first place. Unlike NY, which ignores that problem and focuses on legislation that would impact gun owners who aren´t mentally ill or who don´t have mentally ill family members.

Kinda reminds me of the police, who always go about armed. But it´s okay for the police to be armed, but not law-abiding citizens...?

Love the pictures of all the women shooting at the range, brass flying in the air, the kindergarden teacher holding the AR15. Don´t mess with Texas. Of course Austin leading the pack saying things are changing in Texas - yeah sure. Thos Jefferson called large cities similar to ´a sore on the human body´ - they develop an unnatural reliance on government - like he saw in pre-revolution Paris.

BOSTON — A federal judge has ordered Homeland Security officials to release certain immigration records following a newspaper´s 2012 lawsuit. The Boston Globe was seeking names of "convicted criminal aliens" who were not deported after completing their sentences because their homelands wouldn´t take them back. A 2001 Supreme Court decision says people who are set for deportation can´t be detained more than six months when their removal isn´t likely in the near future. The government argued against the release of thousands of names, saying it would be a privacy invasion.
