| President Obama faces a knotty decision in whether to approve the much-delayed Keystone oil pipeline: a choice between alienating environmental advocates who overwhelmingly supported his candidacy or causing a deep and perhaps lasting rift with Canada. Canada, the United States’ most important trading partner and a close ally on Iran and Afghanistan, is counting on the pipeline to propel more growth in its oil patch, a vital engine for its economy. (Snip) They discussed the Keystone pipeline project, among other subjects, and Mr. Kerry promised a fair, transparent and prompt decision.

Comments: * [w/ Ian Austen].
Kerry gave the 0bama line about transparency to Canada’s foreign minister, John Baird. Why do I think his Keystone pipeline project may be screwed, along with all those needed jobs? This has been fought over here for so long that 0bama should have made a decision, rather than drag it out for Canada.

This article never mentions all the good-paying construction trade jobs that would be generated by constructing the pipeline and all the good-paying manufacturing jobs that would be supported by the operation of this pipeline. The sad thing is that all of these unions will support Obama and Democrats even as he shoots them in the back.

#3, actually most construction workers are non union. But, what you say is right on. Keystone would unleash a boom of economic activity. It would also help reduce gas prices. I wish the GOP would use keystone as leverage and make a deal with Dear Leader regarding the sequester. Dear Leader needs a legacy and the GOP desperately need something to run on in 2014. Added bonus: it will drive a wedge between the Gimeecrats.

The Commiegreens spent serious money on O´fake´s re-election in 2012. Another backer Buffet is racking up freight charges moving the oil via his railroads. Workers and America lose. OFake´s Muslim big-oil buddies in Arabia get richer. No faster way to ship jobs overseas that when we buy a tanker of imported oil.

#4, the Canadians have already negotiated with the unions and the equipment operators laying the pipe will be union members. The whole project has been through the EPA review at least twice and the endangered species review. Some day we´ll learn whether the delay was due to indecisiveness or the desire to get a bigger bribe.

When the president is Democrat party, articles are about how everything affects him.
When the President is a Republican, articles are about how he either caused the problem or didn´t address it.
Will this stupid paper hurry up and fold?

See the must read on whether Stinky the Gunrunner is acting in stupidity or malice. Then you may be like me, and consider that the pipeline will be banned, simply because that will hurt the greatest number of people.

The "risks" exist, IMO, only in the reporters minds.
I believe the pipeline will be approved because O can first trade the approval for something from the GOP. They will give something, maybe not the Carbon Tax, but something.
And later O can resume harassing the fossil fuel industries anyway.
What is the risk from Environmentalists? They will keep voting for Democrats anyway. And the Democrats know it.
The activists will immediately will try to undo a the pipeline with lawsuits even if it is approved. And the nature of our courts gives them some chance of doing so.
Obama can´t trade killing the pipeline for anything he doesn´t alread have. And I don´t think he cares about the economic or diplomatic consequences of dediding either wa.

President Obama is voting PRESENT. As soon as VJ tells him what to do, he will give his decision. His job is to do what is in the best interest of the U>S>, not what is in the best interest of his special interest groups, but the man cannot shed his campaign mode , and govern and as a a LEADER. What if the man is simply incapable of making decisions on most anything. That is why everything is always dragged to infinity; and why he spends almost all his time giving speeches and vacationing. Where his biggest decision is which golf club to use and what to eat for din-din.

Spanish engineers, who already spent some $680 million on designing the new generation S-80 class submarine, say it is a major “technical innovation.” There is just one problem the calculations show – if submerged into water, it may never come up again. The Spanish media has been furiously discussing the errors made by the state-owned Navantia construction company, which has spent about a third of the huge $2.2 billion budget only to produce an ‘overweight’ submarine that is not able to float. Spain’s Ministry of Defense has confirmed that Navantia detected “deviations”

“He was not radical at all,” Taramov told WESH-TV. He added that the FBI had been tracking Todashev since the Boston bombings. At some point, Todashev moved to Florida. He was arrested for aggravated battery this month, according to police records, after getting into a fight with a man in a parking lot. When the FBI agent and others arrived at his apartment early Wednesday, the law enforcement officials said Todashev initially was cooperative. They said he appeared on the verge of signing a confession to the killings of three people in Waltham in September 2011.

Jerusalem - Israel´s air force chief says his troops need to be ready to act quickly in case of an attack from Syria. The remarks by Maj. Gen. Amir Eshel Wednesday echo statements by Israel´s military chief of staff a day earlier. Eshel warned escalation could lead to a "surprise war." He said Russian S-300 air defense systems are "on their way" to Syria, though Israel asked Russia not to supply them. Israel is concerned the Syrian civil war could spill across its border. Syrian and Israeli forces briefly exchanged fire on the Golan Heights border Tuesday. Israel has warned it will not tolerate fire from Syria

Kerry allowed that President Barack Obama won´t send American troops to Syria. But he made clear that more aid to the rebels would be coming if the effort fails. The man shot dead by an FBI agent in Orlando, Florida early today was "about to sign a statement" admitting to a role, along with Boston Marathon bombing suspect Tamerlan Tsarnaev, in an unsolved triple murder in Massachusetts in 2011, two people with direct knowledge of the case told ABC News. Ibragim Todashev "just went crazy," and pulled a knife during his interview with the FBI, said state and federal law enforcement officials briefed on the latest strange twist in the investigation of the Boston Marathon bombing. One official said an FBI agent was stabbed several times,

An 18-year-old Florida student’s senior year has become a nightmare — all because she was in a same-sex relationship with a 15-year-old, her family says. Kaitlyn Hunt was arrested Feb. 16 for having a physical relationship with a younger classmate, who was her girlfriend at the time, mom Kelley Hunt Smith wrote on Facebook. Under Florida law, Hunt could see up to 15 years in prison and must register as a sex offender. A plea deal, however, remains on the table that would give Hunt two years´ house arrest and one year of probation, her family said. “Does my daughter deserve to lose her life for

As the impasse over Tehran’s nuclear program worsens, those most likely to be directly affected by an Iranian bomb are showing greater alarm. While the media fixates on Israel and its possible reaction, other regional players have no less at stake. Despite Riyadh’s long-held advocacy of making the Middle East a zone free of weapons of mass destruction, there has been much speculation in the past few years about the possibility of its acquiring, or developing, nuclear weapons should Tehran obtain the bomb. In the words of Saudi King Abdullah: “If Iran developed nuclear weapons (...) everyone in the

Former Rep. I’m running for mayor because I’ve been fighting for the middle class and those struggling to make it for my entire life.

The dam protecting the IRS scandal began to crack today when Lois Lerner, the IRS official who announced, and apologized for, the improper singling out of conservative-leaning organizations by IRS employees under her command, announced through her criminal defense lawyer that she will not testify as scheduled tomorrow before the House Oversight Committee. Rather, she will assert her Fifth Amendment right against self-incrimination. This marks an enormous milestone in the IRS investigation. It can now be taken as more or less established that crimes were committed by Obama administration employees. Lerner’s lawyer tried to minimize the significance

The public got its first look Thursday at Lois Lerner, who has gone from faceless IRS bureaucrat to the face that launched what feels like 1,000 congressional hearings and conspiracy theories. But it was only a brief sighting since she didn´t stay long at a House hearing to further probe her role in how some IRS workers came to target conservative groups seeking tax-exempt status. (Snip)She did make a short statement to declare her innocence, however. Lerner´s motivation was more transparent than much of what the IRS has done in connection with this controversy. She was determined to

When you get right down to it, the political targeting and stalling of tax-exempt applications by the IRS was an effort to defund the Tea Party. Rick Santelli, one of the Tea Party founders and my CNBC colleague, was the first to make this point. I’ve taken it a step further: The IRS was taking the Tea Party out of play for the 2012 election, as it looked to avoid a repeat of 2010 and another Tea Party landslide. There are a lot of numbers out there.

House Oversight and Government Reform Committee Chairman Darrell Issa said embattled IRS official Lois Lerner waived her Fifth Amendment rights and will be hauled back to appear before his panel again. The California Republican said Lerner’s Fifth Amendment right to avoid self-incrimination was voided when she gave an opening statement this morning denying any wrongdoing and professing pride in her government service. “When I asked her her questions from the very beginning, I did so so she could assert her rights prior to any statement,” Issa told POLITICO. “She chose not to do so — so she waived.”
