| Louisville, Ky. — After backlash from customers, the producer of Maker´s Mark bourbon is reversing a decision to cut the amount of alcohol in bottles of its famous whiskey. Rob Samuels, Maker´s Mark´s chief operating officer, said Sunday that it is restoring the alcohol volume of its product to its historic level of 45 percent, or 90 proof. Last week, it said it was lowering the amount to 42 percent, or 84 proof, because of a supply shortage. "We´ve been tremendously humbled over the last week or so," Samuels, grandson of the brand´s founder, said of customers´ reactions.

Clever way to make price increases go down easier, while gaining lots of press coverage? Could be. Smart move to leave the recipe as is.

It is a smart move to leave the recipe alone. Don´t mess with success. If there´s a supply shortage, stop selling overseas. We need all the whiskey we can get for the next four years.

Seems like just about everything is being made cheaper, being watered down, etc... Why mess with a product that has a loyal following and a 100% sell through rate?

It was the 2nd generation that build Makers Mark. And, they built it partly on the mistique of being hard to get.
Dont water it down.

That didn´t take long. We first heard the announcement last week...five days later they back it down. Kentucky is a tabacco and bourbon state. Tobacco is practically gone...bourbon can´t be far behind.
I always thought Maker´s Mark tasted like cough syrup.

Trenton — As Congress debates an overhaul to the federal immigration system, New Jersey lawmakers again took up controversial legislation today that would allow students living in the country illegally to pay in-state tuition at the state’s public colleges. The bill, dubbed the “Tuition Equality Act,” was approved by the state Assembly Budget Committee after a lengthy hearing in Trenton. The crowd in the chamber, which included immigrant students who have been pushing for the change for years, cheered as the committee moved the bill. The legislation will now go to the full Assembly for a vote.

An attorney whose firm represents two Benghazi whistleblowers said Gen. Charlie Rose last night asked President Obama his new Syria policy. The president first objected to it being called a new policy. "I´m not sure you can characterize this as a new policy. This is consistent with the policy that I´ve had throughout," he said. Obama then explained the goal is regional stability, and especially in Syria. "Really, what we´re trying to do is take sides against extremists of all sorts and in favor of people who are in favor of moderation, tolerance, representative government, and over the long-term, stability and prosperity for the people of Syria," said Obama.
