Unyielding GOP politicians doing

U.S. Rep. Jason Chaffetz flew home from Washington last week, leaving behind a capital baffled by Republicans like him in Congress: those who stubbornly refuse to compromise with President Barack Obama, a tactic that some see as damaging the GOP brand and pushing the nation repeatedly to the brink of fiscal chaos. Back in his Utah district, Chaffetz drove to the Dairy Keen and barely had bitten into a bacon cheeseburger before a diner begged him to stop Obama´s health care overhaul. "It´s the stupidest plan in the world," said Phoebe Eason

Comments:
Another Tea Party "usurper" trying his best to do what is right battling both the democrats and the Republican Establishment.

Note that his constituents are not screaming about gay marriage or abortion. Its all about government over-reach, over-spending, and Constitutional rights.

This idiot writer was never educated on how this government works. Obstruction was built in to stop another King George type.If obama had any kind of track record his policies worked then you argue against the obstruction.Nothing he´s done has worked so far. Maybe killing millions of jobs has reduced greenhouse gases if you want to stretch things.

Republicans were elected in 2010 precisely to obstruct Obama, not get in bed with him.

Besides isn´t Obama obstructing republican House proposals, not to mention Harry Reid who refuses to produce a budget.

AP narrative for the next two years: portray the repubs as extreme.

This is the new normal, folks. What should be in an op-ed becomes straight up reporting, and stories like this get carried in newspapers across the country.

The writer is not an idiot. He is making an accurate report, not finding fault. I think people should read the articles carefully.

"leaving behind a capital baffled by Republicans like him in Congress: those who stubbornly refuse to compromise with President Barack Obama"

Oh, yes, completely accurate and unbiased.

I DID read the article carefully and was alarmed by the number of false assertions by it´s author.

It is now too late to stop or prevent the crap storm about to come down on America. Young African-Americans are going to explode in urban America and it will be ugly and bloody. Is that why Obama and the DHS are buying all the assault weapons and ammo?

Reply 7 - Posted by: Malia2012, 2/16/2013 7:57:29 AM     (No. 9179507)

So, if we disagree with the "staff" of the AssePress, we did not read the article? "stubbornly refuse to compromise with Pres.Barack Obama" "brink of fiscal chaos"? Perhaps some of us ARE missing the "true" meaning of those accusations by the AssePress, and the more "enlightened" can explain the intent of the "staff" writers there. BTW, WHO are the "some" who believe Rep. Jason Chaffetz and any other Republican who disagrees with the agitator-in-chief is "damaging the GOP brand"? ... Never mind.

Jason Chaffetz is one of my heroes, along with all but one or two (Clyburn, Graham) of our entire SC legislative delegation. They were elected to stand firm on conservative principles, and they are doing just that. Deepest thanks for all you do, Patriots.

Yes, 6, it is; to ARM them! O and his DHS can´t subdue or kill all 25 million by themselves. Think the Belgian Congo.

Yesterday I ran into a woman in her 80´s. She is enthralled by hillary and is sooo angry at those darn republicans (boehner specifically)for blocking her darling obama. Too late I thought to ask her exactly WHAT had they blocked? As for hillary? I told her I was disappointed. I thought the women of this country could have provided a candidate who had a good resume. Not a woman who married a powerful man and went on to become the toady to another powerful man. And who left a wake of disaster behind her. We avoided one another for the rest of our visit to the supermarket.
But really, what have the republicans blocked obama/dems from doing?

But the president has acknowledged it will be difficult to get those proposals through a Republican-controlled House of Representatives.

...which is why he also said that "If Congress won´t act, I will", meaning that he´ll simply deem something done and it will get done, over the heads of Congress, clearly an unconstitutional act.

But that´s okay -- he´s visionary, transformative and messianic so we´ll just give him a pass.

National polls that claim to reflect the approval rate for the Congress are bogus, as congressional politics is local. As long as the voters in individual congressional districts approve of what their individual congress critter is doing, he or she is safe, no matter what any national poll says.

Is there anyone remaining with an IQ above room temperature who actually believes that the Republican Party believes in limited government, as defined by the U.S. constitution? If so, they have either been hibernating or have been in complete self-denial. Every election cycle the Republican Party counts on its “conservative base” to dutifully turn out and mark their ballot for whatever candidate has been selected by the GOP leadership. We are told ad infinitum that doing so will keep the Democrat liberal demons from furthering their agenda. The inside-the-beltway establishment has been chanting this mantra for years

Former George W. Bush chief political strategist Matt Dowd continued to try to diminish Sarah Palin and conservatives by once again making false claims about the former Alaska governor. On Sunday´s "ABC´s This Week," Dowd assailed CPAC for, in his mind, lessening its credibility by inviting conservatives like Palin and not liberal Republicans favored by the northeastern elite like New Jersey Governor Chris Christie. “CPAC, to me, has totally diminished its credibility as an organization,” Dowd said

People continually complain that with the different faces who have disgraced the Offices of the President and Vice President, the one hundred (100) seats within the Senate and the four hundred thirty-five (435) seats within the House of Representatives, nothing improves for the masses, only for those who are elected and special interests. This is frustrating and we need to assess why, so we can change this ‘continuing resolution’. It appears that the GOP and the Democrat Party have merged.

For the past several years, congressional Republicans have focused relentlessly on a single message: Washington — led by President Obama — is spending too much money, and it needs to stop. But according to new Washington Post-ABC News polling, that laser-like focus isn’t helping Republicans win the argument over federal spending — with 67 percent of those tested disapproving of the “way Republicans in Congress are handling federal spending.”

Demographics are destiny. Nothing else makes history. When the changes ahead are shipped into denial is when chaos and disaster ensue. And the potential disasters America faces today do not come from global warming, nuclear weapons, the Russians, the hippies or the rednecks. They come from the economic division of America between the red states, which are rising in capital and prosperity, and the left and right coasts, which are receding in economic power. Demographer Joel Kotkin well outlines the transition in a Wall Street Journal essay yesterday title, “America’s Red State Growth Corridors.”

Sophomore U.S. Rep. Mike Pompeo, R-Kansas, graduated first in his class at West Point, graduated from Harvard Law School, had a hugely successful career in the aerospace industry, and also has a think-tank background. He may be a seriously rising star. Anyway, he put out a self-explanatory press release that is a beauty to behold. Take that, Mr. Obama! Today, White House Spokesman Jay Carney asked during a press briefing what Congressman Mike Pompeo, R-Kansas, would say to defense workers facing furlough because of the President’s sequester plan. The following is his statement:

Senator Tom Coburn (R-Okla.) has been front and center during the latter days of the sequestration showdown, which is good, because he literally wrote the book on government waste. He produces a new edition of his “Wastebook” every year, chronicling the most absurd abuses of taxpayer money. It is wise for Republicans to bring up these horror stories when Obama is racing around the country and insisting that a 2.3 percent reduction in the rate of government growth means we can’t have firefighters or border security. Coburn’s Wastebook should be every American’s indispensable manual

The public got its first look Thursday at Lois Lerner, who has gone from faceless IRS bureaucrat to the face that launched what feels like 1,000 congressional hearings and conspiracy theories. But it was only a brief sighting since she didn´t stay long at a House hearing to further probe her role in how some IRS workers came to target conservative groups seeking tax-exempt status. (Snip)She did make a short statement to declare her innocence, however. Lerner´s motivation was more transparent than much of what the IRS has done in connection with this controversy. She was determined to

When you get right down to it, the political targeting and stalling of tax-exempt applications by the IRS was an effort to defund the Tea Party. Rick Santelli, one of the Tea Party founders and my CNBC colleague, was the first to make this point. I’ve taken it a step further: The IRS was taking the Tea Party out of play for the 2012 election, as it looked to avoid a repeat of 2010 and another Tea Party landslide. There are a lot of numbers out there.

Eva Longoria is backing up her beauty with a whole lot of brain. The actress graduated with a master´s degree Wednesday. Longoria, 38, took home a real degree (not an honorary one) in Chicano studies from Cal State Northridge, where she physically attended classes for three years, according to TMZ. "Big day today!!! Very excited to graduate for my master´s degree in Chicano studies! You´re never too old or too busy to continue your education!" the actress wrote on her Who Say site Wednesday, sharing loads of pics of her big day, posing with her family, cohorts and diploma.

What´s so interesting about 60 tea partiers protesting the IRS in San Jose, California on Tuesday, May 21st? The fact that this bit of information was conveyed to the protesters by a Department of Homeland Security officer who was also in attendance. What was a DHS agent doing at the San Jose Tea Party protest? (snip) they weren´t just spying on us in San Jose and monitoring us in San Francisco, they were watching us throughout the entire state

On “Fox News Sunday” last weekend, White House aide Dan Pfeiffer was asked about President Barack Obama’s whereabouts the night of the Sept. 11 attack in Benghazi. This was the night when we lost our first ambassador in 30 years, and when three other Americans were killed in an attack that lasted all night long at multiple locations within the eastern Libyan city. Since the president is commander in chief, one would think where he was and what he did during such an event would be of obvious public concern.

House Oversight and Government Reform Committee Chairman Darrell Issa said embattled IRS official Lois Lerner waived her Fifth Amendment rights and will be hauled back to appear before his panel again. The California Republican said Lerner’s Fifth Amendment right to avoid self-incrimination was voided when she gave an opening statement this morning denying any wrongdoing and professing pride in her government service. “When I asked her her questions from the very beginning, I did so so she could assert her rights prior to any statement,” Issa told POLITICO. “She chose not to do so — so she waived.”

Is the worm turning against Barack Obama? After four-plus years of being given the benefit of the doubt by the bulk of the US media, the President now suddenly feels more vulnerable. Today both the New York Times and the Washington Post have run prominent and angry editorials and columns slamming the administration for its attempt to criminalise a Fox News reporter James Rosen for working a State Department source to obtain a story. The "Rosen Affair"--as it is now known--is poisoning the well in Washington at an alarming rate for Mr Obama, with an indignant White House press corps
