Magical Fairyland budgeting

"I´m also issuing a new goal for America," declared President Obama at his "State of the Union" on Tuesday. We´ll come to the particular "goal" he "issued" momentarily, but before we do, consider that formulation: Did you know the president of the United States is now in the business of "issuing goals" for his subjects to live up to? Strange how the monarchical urge persists even in a republic two-and-a-third centuries old. Many commentators have pointed out that the modern State of the Union is in fairly obvious mimicry of the Speech from the Throne that precedes a new

There´s no reason Zero shouldn´t be utterly delusional, his entire life and career are built on nothing but lies and deceit yet he´s never been held accountable.

Another home run by Steyn. "So, in public, [Obama] issues goals, orders dreams, commands unicorns". The great and powerful Oz has spoken--pay no attention to that man behind the curtain.

Steyn aside, it is in fact a function of an executive, anywhere, any time, to set goals. That´s how businesses run. Strange that Steyn either doesn´t know it, forgot it, doesn´t care, or has entered the last stage (deliquescence of the brain) of scumbama derangement syndrome. There´s so much actually wrong with scumbama, why invent a magical fairyland definition of "executive"?

Ah, yes the old Stalinist Tractor Factory ploy: This factory will produce 2,000 tractors in the next 12-month period. And when this impossible goal is not reached because steel mills don´t exist, then blame the "Wreckers" and find that there is an "Engineers´ Plot".

Barry´s concept of job creation via pick and shovel road and bridge building is his fairyland dream from his childhood.
The boy thrilled to watch the peasants with pick and shovel build a railroad now wants to bring that amazing concept to the USA as his gift to the nation.
Since he has never seen modern construction with highly skilled workmen he doesn´t know he is 100 years behind building jobs. The same thinking pilots his ideas of all jobs.

Steyn is a treasure. Reading his "After America" right now.

And he is far from deranged in any sense of the word.

An American president is not a business executive or a CEO. The government is not a business, it is the government. The presidency is one of the three branches of government. An American president does not "issue" anything. This is the language of tyrants (or bureaucrats - which in practice comes to the same thing). Steyn is right to notice the implications of this language, which is yet another indication that Obama neither understands nor supports the American system of government. Like nearly all radical Leftists, he views the Constitutional system of checks and balances as an antiquated and utterly unnecessary obstruction to his plans. But if Americans are prepared to accept someone like Obama "issuing" goals for them, they deserve what they get. They are no longer worthy of the liberty for which previous generations fought and with which they were entrusted, gratis. They have chosen to become serfs, to whom nobles and czars and commissars "issue" ukases for them to obey.

Re: " America moves forward only when we do so together," declared the president. I dunno. Maybe it´s just me, but the whole joint seems to be seizing up these days: the more "activist" Big Government gets, the more inactive the nation at large.

Obamaland, the fundamentally transformed collective, will be placed on fhe same list as Haiti, Venezuela and Zimbabwe for most impoverished. Obama will have achieved the unprecedented, something that normal people will regret.

Parties divide over IRS scandal fallout

Democratic lawmakers on the Senate Finance Committee said Tuesday the IRS, while engaging in “unacceptable” targeting of conservative groups, may have been set up for failure by campaign finance law ambiguities that allowed tax-exempt groups to engage in partisan politics without disclosing their donors. In the Senate’s first hearing on revelations that the tax agency had targeted tea party and other conservative groups for special scrutiny, Democrats focused largely on the foggy environment that led to the scandal, while minority Republican members of the panel excoriated senior IRS officials

RUSH: It took five minutes. Five minutes. It only took five minutes before the Democrat Party politicized the tornado in Oklahoma. They politicize everything, folks. They rub their hands together in glee when there is a natural disaster that they think they can spin in such a way as to advance their political agenda. If any of you doubt that global warming is a political issue and not a science issue, then you must open your mind and consider why in the world, ask yourself, why in the world, five minutes

The Los Angeles Times reported Tuesday afternoon that Lois Lerner, who heads up the Internal Revenue Service´s tax-exempt division, plans to invoke the Fifth Amendment to the U.S. Constitution in a hearing Wednesday before the House Committee on Oversight and Government Affairs. The Fifth Amendment provides that U.S. citizens may not be compelled to offer testimony if telling the truth would incriminate them. Lerner´s defense lawyer, William W. Taylor III, wrote to the committee on Tuesday that his client would refuse to answer questions related to what she knew about the extra levels of scrutiny appled to

RUSH: The IRS commissioner, Steven Miller, has just admitted in a Senate hearing this morning, Senate testimony this morning, guess what he´s admitted? The targeting of conservative groups at the IRS was partisan. He said so this morning. Now, I guess the threat of perjury has a way of squeezing the truth out, because it was only last week that Mr. Miller said there was nothing partisan about this. This morning he admitted that targeting conservative groups is partisan. Of course, everybody knew that. The shock was that he said,

RUSH: We have an update here from Jay Carney, another one, on the IRS scandal. There are now, I figure, eight or nine different versions of what happened. The White House has had four or five shifting versions of why it happened, who did it, who knew about it, who knew about it and didn´t tell the president about it, who knew about it and didn´t tell anybody else about it. Every day it´s a new thing, and here´s the latest from the spokeskid, Jay Carney. At the daily press briefing, a reporter said,

Salon´s Joan Walsh is spoiling for a catfight with our colleagues Kim Strassel and Peggy Noonan. What has Walsh´s back up is their observation that whether or not President Obama directly ordered the Internal Revenue Service and other government agencies to persecute dissenters, he encouraged them to do so with his unpresidential public pronouncements. As Strassel put it in her Wall Street Journal column last Friday: Mr. Obama didn´t need to pick up the phone. All he needed to do was exactly what he did do, in full view, for three years: Publicly suggest that conservative

Jay Carney tried to avoid questions about the series of scandals surrounding the Obama administration by comparing them to questions about the president’s birth certificate. At today’s White House press briefing, CBS’s Major Garrett asked Carney if the White House thought Republican inquiries about recent scandals were “legitimate.” (Reporters mentioned the Benghazi attack, the IRS scandal, the Department of Justice’s investigations of reporters, and the Department Health and Human Service’s efforts to raise funds from private companies to promote Obamacare.)

WASHINGTON – The Internal Revenue Serviced scandal today spread further within the White House and closer to President Obama. White House spokesman Jay Carney today disclosed that Obama’s chief of staff, Dennis McDonough, and other top White House officials had advance warning that the IRS was targeting conservative groups. But he insisted McDonough and the other White House officials purposely kept Obama out of the loop.McDonough “rightly chose not to take action” to inform Obama, Carney told reporters at the daily White House briefing.

The Washington Post on Monday reported that Obama’s Department of Justice was investigating journalists before they started wiretapping the Associated Press – for one, Fox News correspondent James Rosen in 2010. Their headline wasn´t "Obama Team Also Spied on Fox News." Fox wasn´t in the headline, on A-1 or on A-12, where the story continued. Newly obtained court documents “reveal how deeply investigators explored the private communications of a working journalist — and raise the question of how often journalists have been investigated as closely as Rosen was in 2010.” Reporter Ann Marimow began:

WASHINGTON – A top IRS official in the division that reviews nonprofit groups will invoke the Fifth Amendment and refuse to answer questions before a House committee investigating the agency’s improper screening of conservative nonprofit groups. Lois Lerner, the head of the exempt organizations division of the IRS, won’t answer questions about what she knew about the improper screening – or why she didn’t reveal it to Congress, according to a letter from her defense lawyer, William W. Taylor 3rd. Lerner was scheduled to appear before the House Oversight committee Wednesday.

The wheels came off the Obama administration yesterday. We learned of a startling assault on freedom of the press by the Department of Justice, following the revelation last week of the unprecedented information-gathering foray by that department against The Associated Press. Then, a few minutes later, the Justice Department’s inspector general released a report declaring that the US attorney in Arizona used the leak of a confidential memo to try to discredit a whistleblower in the notorious “gun-walking” scandal known as Fast and Furious (which got two federal agents killed). The leak was called “egregious.”

A senior adviser to President Obama mounted a combative defense of the administration on Sunday, saying the controversies enveloping the White House were the result of Republican lawmakers’ trying to “drag Washington into a swamp of partisan fishing expeditions, trumped-up hearings and false allegations.”The remarks came from Dan Pfeiffer, a member of the president’s inner circle, as he appeared on all five major Sunday morning talk shows in an effort to move the administration past what commentators have described as a “hell week” of controversy and missteps.

Stuart Varney said this morning on "Varney & Co." that one of his producers was given a questionnaire with some surprisingly intrusive questions on it when he switched doctors. One of the questions was whether he/she was concerned about unsecured weapons in the home. Another asked whether he/she was "in a relationship in which you have been physically hurt or are you afraid of your partner?" Judge Andrew Napolitano explained that the question about guns comes out of a post-Sandy Hook executive order by President Obama, but it will be required under Obamacare. Varney expressed amazement

While many Americans were tuned into news coverage of the massive damage from tornadoes ravaging the state of Oklahoma, Rhode Island Democratic Sen. Sheldon Whitehouse took to the Senate floor to rail against his Republican colleagues for denying the theory of anthropogenic global warming. Whitehouse spent 15 minutes chastising GOP senators and justified his remarks by alluding to states that seek federal assistance in the wake of natural disasters. “So, you may have a question for me,” Whitehouse said. “Why do you care?
