President Obama announced that he´s supporting a federal, inflation-adjusted minimum wage increase from $7.25 to $9.00 per hour. Even if he settles for $8 per hour, this seems irresponsible in light of our stubbornly slow economic recovery. But if the government is going to raise the minimum wage, why stop at such a low wage rate? If higher minimum wages are so wonderful, why don´t we just raise the minimum wage to $50 or $100 per hour?

Rush suggested this several times.
Not only that, but at $100/hr, then they would be in a higher tax bracket, say 28%, so they could feel the pain of having to pay taxes...

Minimum wage increase is the biggest government scam! After you in up in a higher tax bracket, you´ll find 40% of the increase goes to taxes! the rest is eaten up by inflation! The only one that ends up ahead is the government! More taxes! Ask Pelosi what happened the last time she raised the minimum wage! Unemployment went from about 5% to 9%! Then the dems blamed it on Bush! What else is new?

Obama´s believes he can take the unfairness out of life or at least promise to. Too many fall for it. High minimum wage lessens the desire to improve yourself.

Liberals believe that employers owe their employees a "living wage" [whatever that is]. They don´t get that some people have so few skills that an employer cannot sell their labor for said "living wage" and therefore would go out of business if such wages were paid.
Employee then becomes jobless thanks to Big Government thinking itself wiser than the marketplace.

It is amazing the number of people who are economically ignorant. On another forum I am having an ongoing discussion trying to explain to people why a law requiring all internet businesses to collect sales tax is a bad idea, explaining such a law will favor large companies over small companies. The overwhelming response is something along the lines of "That´s a cost of doing business."

I work with a 50 year old Mexican man. Last night we had a talk about the new minimum wage his Zero Hero wants. He loves Obama. Worships the ground He walks on. He hates Repubilicans because as he says, Republicans hate poor people and all they want to do is help the rich people. He says he will NEVER vote for a Republican, ever. I told him that a minimum wage is just that a minimum wage. He complains because he has had a minimum wage job recently and that he can not support his family on it. The job he has now is a $10 an hour job as a security guard. Not much more than MW. I said well how about going to college, getting an education and then you won´t have to worry about minimum wages jobs anymore. He was dumbfounded.

7 is onto what will happen to the workplace, due to Obama Care and min wage laws. Employees, at least full time, will be a thing of the past. Everything will be done on a contract basis on production, commission, whatever is applicable to a particular industry. And no one will get an hourly or salaried job at 30 plus hours anymore. How´s that hope and change workin for ya?

They are sure to be the next under-class.
Many entry-level jobs can and will and are being out-sourced to machines.
Smart machines.
Obedient machines.
Loyal machines.

I´ve been a patternmaker for years. What used to cost say $50,000 can now be made with CNC equipment for about $5,000, a mere fraction.
We need to put a minimum wage on all this CNC equipment. Just ain´t fair getting paid so little. Hmmmm! Why are patternmakers and CNC techs in so much demand.
Get educated and you´ll get employed.

Obama is not concerned about low income or working people of any kind so he doesn´t care that this hurts the poor the most. MW is only to help unions jack up their rates since many contracts are based on the MW. This is just another payoff to his fellow commies.

Most of the time foreign policy barely registers on the radar screens of American voters. That´s why it´s easy for Hillary Clinton fans to promote the false notion that she was a first-rate Secretary of State despite her four-year string of failures. One of two men allegedly being questioned in connection with the Boston Marathon bombings was shot and killed by an FBI agent in Florida on Tuesday, (Snip)A friend of Ibragim Todashev said he and Todashev were being investigated as part of the Boston bombings. He said Todashev, 27, knew bombing suspect Tamerlan Tsarnaev because both were MMA fighters. The man claims he and Todashev were interviewed by the FBI for nearly three hours on Tuesday. The friend said he left the interview, and when he came back to the apartment he found that there had been a shooting.

WASHINGTON – A top IRS official in the division that reviews nonprofit groups will invoke the Fifth Amendment and refuse to answer questions before a House committee investigating the agency’s improper screening of conservative nonprofit groups. Lois Lerner, the head of the exempt organizations division of the IRS, won’t answer questions about what she knew about the improper screening – or why she didn’t reveal it to Congress, according to a letter from her defense lawyer, William W. When you get right down to it, the political targeting and stalling of tax-exempt applications by the IRS was an effort to defund the Tea Party. Rick Santelli, one of the Tea Party founders and my CNBC colleague, was the first to make this point. House Oversight and Government Reform Committee Chairman Darrell Issa said embattled IRS official Lois Lerner waived her Fifth Amendment rights and will be hauled back to appear before his panel again. The California Republican said Lerner’s Fifth Amendment right to avoid self-incrimination was voided when she gave an opening statement this morning denying any wrongdoing and professing pride in her government service. “When I asked her her questions from the very beginning, I did so so she could assert her rights prior to any statement,” Issa told POLITICO. “She chose not to do so — so she waived.”
