Slavery, not horse meat, is the
real scandal on our doorstep

Long business supply chains are corruptible and can hide a multitude of crimes if no one checks for fraud or criminal activity. Dining in North Korea is, according to those who have tried it, a pretty depressing affair. No matter what it says on the menu, you tend to end up eating dog. Most of the country’s cattle were killed in one of its periodic famines a few years ago, and the collapse of its economy wiped out anything resembling a functioning farming industry.[Snip]As every food scamster knows, revulsion lies in the mind, not the palate. Slavery is pretty easily defined - forcing someone to work and not paying them.

Just wondering - what is the term for paying someone and not forcing them to work?

That is the question! Slavery or freedom? This administration is on the path to slavery! That is what BO´s revenge is all about!

This world is full of modern day slavery, human trafficking etc. and nobody does a thing about it.Instead what we keep hearing about happened over 150 years ago.Shelia Jackson Lee was just freed from slavery yesterday and nobody can figure out who owned her.

In the left´s upside down version of life, collecting unemployment helps the economy.Never mind that the money has to come from someone productive.

communists and socialists like obama claim to champion the poor, but the poor end up suffering the most from their rigid ideology. I have no doubt that he would have us suffer the same fate of the north korean people, and the press would back him every step of the way. people on the political left hate the US and hate people.

Back in the 70´s I worked at an international business. There I met some well-payed, married women from South America. The claimed that once a year they flew home, selected a young woman, brought her back to the USA to serve as a maid/nanny/housekeeper, unpaid, 24/7 for one year. They claimed the young women were thankful to be here (here being a suburb of boston, ma)and that our government knew all about this arrangement. They seemed so reasonable....to me it sounded an awful lot like slavery.

Imagine how grim things must be back home - and how much more grim they had been years ago when there was no choice at all.

North Koreans throw themselves into servitude arrangements in China. At least they get to eat. Then they bribe their way back over the NorK border, carrying meager leftovers to their starving family members. Border guards get fed too, and look the other way as their own bellies dictate. That pretty much describes the economy in those parts.

The floor of the community centre in Springdale, Arkansas, shakes to a staccato rhythm as the young Latino dancers practise their steps. [Snip] It is about nourishing their Mexican roots, making sure their culture doesn´t shrivel and die in this corner of the Deep South. I have come to Springdale because it is a harbinger of America´s future. Ten years ago there were hardly any Latinos here--now they make up more than 30% of the population. Predictions suggest that by 2030, this is what the US will look like. Changing attitudes? Right now, one in four Americans under 18 is

The Hungarian prime minister has drawn outrage in Germany after drawing parallels with comments made by Angela Merkel about sending "cavalry" to Hungary and the Nazi occupation of his country. [Snip] When asked about the situation last week, Mrs Merkel, the German chancellor, said she "would do everything to put Hungary in the right direction, but we won´t be sending in the cavalry straight away." Viktor Orban however brought up the Second World War. "The Germans have already sent cavalry to Hungary: they came in form of tanks," said the prime minister in a radio interview on Friday. Senator Minority Leader Mitch McConnell said on Sunday that the IRS scandal reveals a ´culture of intimidation´ in the Obama Administration that is bent on making it more difficult for ´citizens to organize and express themselves.´ In an interview on NBC´s ´Meet the Press´ McConnell, however, backed away from claims by fellow Kentucky Senator Rand Paul that IRS officials has circulated a memo directing tax collectors to give tougher scrutiny to any groups that were critical of the president. ´The investigation has just begun so I´m not going to speculate on what they may find, but what we do know

Bees, pesticides, more green lies

You´ll remember all that fuss about bees and neonicotinoids last month. It seemed to come out of nowhere--like a flash mob. Suddenly, it was the most urgent cause of the moment for green activists everywhere, with people taking to the streets in bee costumes and celebrities from Vivienne Westwood to Stephen Fry rushing to lend their support. [Snip] Those of us who´ve observed the environmental movement at work, though, will have recognised a familiar pattern here. First, the emergence of a new poster child victim of man´s selfishness and greed: in this case the bee. And we all love bees

Local Conservative party campaigners, including the chairman of one constituency association, will this week pledge their support for Nigel Farage after one of David Cameron’s allies described grassroots Tories as “mad, swivel-eyed loons”. Mr Farage uses an advertisement in Monday´s Telegraph to urge Conservative voters to back Ukip. The “loons” description, he says, is “the ultimate insult” from a party leadership that has betrayed the trust of its own supporters. He writes in the advertisement: “Only an administration run by a bunch of college kids, none of whom have ever had a proper job in their lives, could so

Severe weather has left a violent trail of destruction through the Midwest and South, bringing high winds, heavy rains and tornadoes - and at least one person has been killed. Numerous twisters were spotted on Saturday evening near Rozel, a sparsely populated area in central Kansas. They were also reported to the south in parts of Oklahoma and Iowa. Lightning bolts lit up the sky as the storm moved through. A National Weather Service advisory warned: ´You could be killed if not underground or in a tornado shelter.´ ´Complete destruction of neighborhoods, businesses and vehicles will occur. People in two states were taking shelter amid wailing warning sirens Sunday as tornadoes were confirmed to have touched down in Kansas and Oklahoma as part of an extreme weather system plowing through the nation´s midsection. The system, which stretched from North Texas to Minnesota, also heaved hail--dime to softball sized--as well as heavy rainfall. Residents in downtown Wichita, Kan., were told to seek shelter Sunday afternoon after a tornado was confirmed on the ground--with its presence cloaked by thick thunder clouds and heavy rain. Near Oklahoma City, a half-mile wide tornado was reported, prompting a stark alert

What did President Obama do on the evening of 9/11/12 when our men were under attack in Benghazi? The invaluable Andrew McCarthy reminds us that Obama and Secretary Clinton had a 10:00 p.m. phone call of which many (including, I think, Chris Wallace) have lost sight. This morning when Wallace asked Obama aide Dan Pfeiffer what Obama was up to that evening, Pfeiffer declared the line of inquiry “offensive.” Translation: Obama and his minions would prefer to “move on” and are warning the likes of FNC off:(Snip for video)The Weekly Standard’s Daniel Halper has posted the rush transcript

WASHINGTON - There were new questions Saturday night concerning if anyone in the White House was aware of the IRS´ targeting of conservative groups. The Treasury Department confirmed the timeline but said they did not know the details of the investigation until last week.(Snip)Marcus Owens ran the tax-exempt division at the IRS for 10 years. It began in earnest last Friday. A flash mob of latte drinking, tofu eating media that has done its best to quell, rather than fan the flames of truth, turned on one of their own. Jay Carney lay bludgeoned at the base of the podium, a victim of friendly fire. Ironically, the attack was reminiscent of the one in Benghazi he has repeatedly denied the Administration he represents bears any responsibility for. “Changed twelve times?!” came the cries. And with good reason. We were misled; no, lied to.

Treasury Secretary Jack Lew on Friday urged congressional leaders to raise the debt limit and insisted that the White House is not going to negotiate over the increase because lawmakers have "no choice." "We will not negotiate over the debt limit," Lew wrote. "The creditworthiness of the United States is non-negotiable. The question of whether the country must pay obligations it has already incurred is not open to debate." Lew said that while President Obama is willing to discuss plans to reduce the nation´s deficit with Congress, those talks must be kept separate from any effort to raise the nation´s debt cap.

The Washington Post on Monday reported that Obama’s Department of Justice was investigating journalists before they started wiretapping the Associated Press – for one, Fox News correspondent James Rosen in 2010. Their headline wasn´t "Obama Team Also Spied on Fox News." Fox wasn´t in the headline, on A-1 or on A-12, where the story continued. Newly obtained court documents “reveal how deeply investigators explored the private communications of a working journalist — and raise the question of how often journalists have been investigated as closely as Rosen was in 2010.” Reporter Ann Marimow began:

"Can you see in your mind´s eye a way that this might not have been political, that this was a misguided stupid way to sort, but that they didn´t intend it to be some kind of political attempt to harass the Tea Party?" So actually asked CNN´s Candy Crowley of her guest Sen.
