Obama Desperate to Own
Immigration Reform

If there was any doubt that President Obama’s is still perturbed that the congressional Group of Eight stole headlines the day before his immigration speech by releasing their bipartisan framework, look no further than the White House claim of credit today. Obama’s Las Vegas speech was a retread of his 2011 framework but intended to launch immigration reform as a legacy issue for the president at the start of his second term. “Let me say it this way — the primary reason that we are seeing immigration reform rise on the priority list is because of the president’s efforts

I thought Obamacare was his "signature issue". How many signature issues does he get to claim.

Actually, we are seeing immigration reform because the Dems have figured out the days of voter fraud are numbered, and they need to get some new voters lined up.

The Repubs, in their never-ending quest to be liked, are foolishly playing the "we´re not bad guys, see we want to legalize you illegals too".

Repubs - the newly legalized illegals still won´t vote for you. Can you afford to p*ss off those of us that will?

#1, it´s not foolish for the GOP to try to find ways to attract and reassure Hispanic voters. George W. Bush did comparatively well with Hispanics. There´s no reason we cannot again. Alicia Colon and others have pointed out that they should be a natural constituency for us. Most Hispanic citizens support the basics of reform. They worry about jobs, strong defense and the economy, good schools, available medical care just like anyone else. Those are our priorities, not the Democrats.

Obama will most likely get his way on immigration reform, the media will insure it. Democrats will probably own the Hispanic vote just like they own the black vote. Sure some assimulated second and third generation Hispanics will and do vote republican. The great majority of Hispanics coming over our borders were raised in a country that is stronly socialist, and many are coming here for the freebies. These people will vote democrat. It is no accident that the large majority of Mexican-American politicians in Texas, especially the south half of the state, are liberal democrats. We have elected some conservative Mexican-Americans to the house, but they seldom last more than one or two terms, and the Mexican-American majority elect a liberal to replace them.

You are right, #3. I never understood why Bush was such a promoter of the Hispanic vote.
Better than two-thirds will (and do) vote Democrat.

They want the freebies, and they get them.

What reform? They´re pushing for amnesty to those who snuck in illegally. No enforcement of the law means more will come or half of those here won´t bother to file papers...I mean, why bother?

I agree with Rush, the Dems especially Obama want the issue to beat the GOP over the head with, not a solution. Whenever there is movement toward a solution the Won throws a wrench in the deliberations. Trust me, he wants to blame Republicans more than he wants true immigration reform.

Gimme gimme gimme. The newest waves of illegal alien invaders are 95 percent democrat. By the time some 2nd and 3rd generation hispanics became Republicans, another 50 million democrat illegals will be here to connect to the social welfare life line. A cave on amnesty won´t net the Republican Party even one new hispanic voter. Therefore, the fastest way to marginalize the GOP forever is to grant amnesty.

# 5 --- haven´t you noticed that every thing the Dems ever do always has the phrase "reform" in front of it.

That shows they are "trying" to fix something that is actually not broken.

Hispanics are not going to vote for the Republicans in the future because they caved to Obama and the liberal Democrats in regards to another amnesty.

Regarding the potential new Democrat voters coming out of any amnesty. There are 11-20 million illegal aliens here now. Most are poor generally uneducated people, who earn low wages, have large families, and who come from socialist oriented countries. Most will need forms of government assistance to survive here and they will vote for the Democrats to ensure that they can access those benefit and social service programs.

Obama and the media, especially the ethnic and immigrant media that operates in immigrant communities will ensure that Obama and the Democrats get full credit if an amnesty does pass. Everybody will be hearing, many times over, how master politician Obama whipped the wimpy Republicans into line and got the amnesty through the Congress.

As a result the Republican share of the Hispanic vote will probably gravitate upward from about 27% to about 32% and in the years ahead the Democrats will pick up at least 10 million or so new voters. With that many new voters the Democrats will ensure that the Republicans will have committed long-term political suicide and are no longer able to win national elections.

Make immigration reform his legacy issue? Frankly, I think Obama´s "legacy" is fairly complete already...Let´s see, our undocumented chief executive has so far managed to1) Cripple America´s domestic automobile industry (2) Put our world-class healthcare industry on the road to ruin (3) Greatly weaken our armed forces at home and overseas (4) Brought the wheels of deliberative government to an almost complete standstill (5) Run-up our national debt to an all-time high of over $16,000,000,000,000.00 and climbing, thereby driving our nation´s once thriving economy to the edge of a fiscal cliff disaster (6) Given aid and comfort to America´s sworn enemies around the globe (7) Made a mockery of The United States Constitution and our systems of laws and (8) Conducted himself as a complete incompetent bufoon, for the most part, on the national and international stage!...Did I miss anything?

Here´s a lesson in online security: Passwords are important. They keep your information safe. Crucially, they also prevent other people from impersonating you. Unfortunately, one of The Switch´s readers learned that the hard way. On a story explaining how the Heartbleed bug could slow down the Internet, a commenter scoffed at the "Heartbleed thingamajig," arguing that the Internet´s handwringing over security was mostly overwrought: I couldn´t give a flying fig about the Heartbleed thingamajig. Two years already the thing has been running loose ... and not a word of someone crying over its damage. Say ... does anyone really know its origin?

Proponents of the Affordable Care Act (ACA) insist that the law will extend health insurance to millions, expand access to health care, and improve Americans’ overall health. But, as the New York Times recently reported, at least 20 percent of the new enrollees have not paid their premiums. They therefore do not really have insurance. But even for those enrollees paying premiums, having health insurance is not the same thing as getting good health care, or any health care. In fact, it doesn’t matter how many Americans obtain insurance under the ACA. Most will have difficulty finding a physician. Many Americans

Exactly forty years ago Patricia Hearst stunned the nation when she turned up as a bank robber, a mere two months after she was kidnapped by the violent cult that called itself “The Symbionese Liberation Army.” Her astonishing transformation was documented by bank cameras on April 15, 1974. There she was — granddaughter of William Randolph “Citizen Kane” Hearst — wielding a sawed-off assault rifle and terrorizing people in a bank. She had recently announced in a taped SLA communique that she had voluntarily joined the SLA in its fight against the “fascist” United States. She took the nom de

A few years ago, the corruption convictions of several prominent plaintiffs´ lawyers put a spotlight on dishonesty in American civil courts. Now the sleaze has burst back into the news with cases involving Chevron and Dole Food Co., this time with an international twist. Last month, a federal court in Manhattan found that a U.S. plaintiffs´ lawyer had masterminded a multibillion dollar fraud and extortion scheme against Chevron in Ecuador. Three days later, a California appellate court affirmed the dismissal of a lawsuit against Dole as a "fraud on the court" perpetrated by U.S. and Nicaraguan plaintiffs´ lawyers. These rulings are welcome

NFL players have Most Valuable Player awards. Major League Baseball players strive for Cy Youngs and Gold Gloves. For journalists, it´s the Pulitzer. Every year, when Pulitzers are announced, most of them are awarded to big corporate media outlets with huge staffs and budgets devoted specifically to the contest. But not always. On Monday, David Philipps, an investigative reporter for the Colorado Springs Gazette, claimed a Pulitzer for his three-day series, Other Than Honorable. Philipps exposed the shameful treatment of members of the U.S. military, many of them wounded combat veterans, in the drawdown of American military forces. Too often,

Another sob story in the left-wing media about Dzhokhar Tsarnaev? Yesterday it was the turn of The New York Times, under the headline, “Marathon Bombing Suspect Waits in Isolation.” Needless to say, the ACLU is up in arms. Boo-hoo-hoo. And if he were in general population, rest assured the headline would have been, “Marathon Bombing Suspect Waits in Fear of his Life.” Needless to say, the ACLU would be up in arms. This one was perfectly timed — on the first anniversary of the Joker placing one of his kettle bombs in front of little Martin Richard, who had moments

Neurosurgeon Ben Carson says the White House wanted him to apologize for “offending” President Obama after he famously delivered a conservative message at the National Prayer Breakfast last year. Carson, the former director of pediatric neurosurgery at Johns Hopkins Hospital, recalls the events surrounding his 2013 speech in his new book, One Nation: What We Can All Do To Save America’s Future. The Daily Caller obtained an advance copy of the book, which is set for release May 20. “He did not appear to be hostile or angry,” Carson writes of Obama, “but within a matter of minutes after the conclusion of

Megyn Kelly’s "Kelly File" is a great news show. She’s incisive, informed and customarily handles the toughest guest with aplomb. But her lengthy interview of Facebook C.O.O. Sheryl Sandberg about her second book in the Lean In series Lean In: For Graduates was a head shaker. Amazing that she of all people allowed Sandberg to restring the same old, same old, shamed, and shopworn feminist myths about women and girls and then jangle it in front of her viewing audience like something new out of the box. Indeed Kelly all but genuflected in front of this woman. Kept her on thru

On Saturday, I wrote about the standoff at Bundy Ranch. That post drew a remarkable amount of traffic, even though, as I wrote then, I had not quite decided what to make of the story. Since then, I have continued to study the facts and have drawn some conclusions. Here they are. First, it must be admitted that legally, Bundy doesn’t have a leg to stand on. The Bureau of Land Management has been charging him grazing fees since the early 1990s, which he has refused to pay. Further, BLM has issued orders limiting the area on which Bundy’s cows can

Look, everyone loves Sean Connery, particularly Sean Connery. That’s why he plays Sean Connery in every movie he’s in. People love that Scottish brogue so much, they don’t mind that he has it when he plays Juan Sánchez Villa-Lobos Ramírez, an immortal Spaniard in Highlander. The guy even won an Oscar for playing an Irish cop with a Scottish accent. Talk about sexist double standards: Meryl Streep has to master foreign dialects to get her golden statuettes. Connery just has to show up on time. In economics you devalue a currency by printing too much of it. In film you

Casual marijuana use may come with some not-so-casual side effects. For the first time ever, researchers at Northwestern University have analyzed the relationship between casual use of marijuana and brain changes – and found that young adults who used cannabis just once or twice a week showed significant abnormalities in two important brain structures. The study’s findings, to be published Wednesday in the Journal of Neuroscience, are similar to those of past research linking chronic, long-term marijuana use with mental illness and changes in brain development. Dr. Hans Breiter, co-senior study author, said he was inspired to look at the effects of casual

Although the Civil Rights Act, the landmark legislation which just reached its 50th anniversary, made great strides in desegregating the economy, economic discrimination is still widespread, and anti-discrimination legislation alone can never rectify the economic damage inflicted upon blacks by slavery and our Jim Crow apartheid regime. The Civil Rights Act was a mild reform, all things considered, but one conservatives fought with vigor and one many conservatives are still bitter about to this day. When the Civil Rights Act passed in 1964, the primary purpose was to root out discrimination in public accommodations (like hotels and movie theaters)
