| Chuck Hagel’s path to the Pentagon struck another major roadblock on Thursday when Senate Republicans kept up their threat to filibuster, throwing the nomination into limbo as Congress prepared to quit town for a weeklong recess. Senate Majority Leader Harry Reid said on the Senate floor that Republicans were blocking Hagel over their demands that he and the White House give more information about Hagel’s background and the Sept. 11 Benghazi attacks. I thkink the opposite is true, it is very patriotic to insist that Sec Def be qualified. What 0blamer and the "unified " democrat senators are doing , shows utter distain and lack of support for our men and women in uniform.

Confirmations of presidential appointees should NOT be blocked by filibuster. The Constitution specifies that "advice and consent" is by a simple majority of the Senate. Senate rules of filibuster should not be able to trump the Constitution, I don´t care which party is doing it.

Btw, I´m sure the stupid party is too stupid to know they´ve just fallen into a trap. By filibustering Hagel they´re going to be easily painted as obstructionist. I doubt Barry wanted Hagel anyway. He was probably just looking to pour gasoline on the GOP Civil War. Now the GOP will either have to deal on amnesty, gun grabbing, carbon taxes, voter reform, or they´re going to be swept out of office in 2014. This Hagel business is the definition of pyritic victory.

We need another word instead of "recess".
The recent NLRB case was about deciding when Congress is in Recess. And it was decided against Obama but will be appealed to the Supreme Court.
Will Congress be in recess next week? Or will it merely be adjourned?
Hagel will eventually be confirmed. The Republicans will not hold together to stop the filibuster. I don´t like the rule anyway but until it is changed it should be used.
Do you really think any Democrat wouldn´t use it when needed?

#17, our country is in the hands of a tyrant. The Republican "leaders" (and I use that term loosely) have let far too many things "go" the last four years! As far as wringing hands over Pubbies being "painted as obstructionists," #13, THAT trap has only ever worked because the cowards allow it. Attorney General Eric Holder personally signed off on the warrant naming Fox News journalist James Rosen a “possible co-conspirator” in violation of the Espionage Act, Michael Isikoff reported yesterday. Which is sort of awkward, because Barack Obama also yesterday told the country (the whole country) that he didn’t want to criminalize reporting, and that he was going to ask his Justice Department to make sure not to do that anymore. Rosen wasn’t charged. In truth, the government never really intended on charging him. Conservative radio host Mark Levin is very skeptical of the idea that President Obama had absolutely no idea about the IRS tea party targeting before the story broke in the news mere weeks ago.
