| It´s been two years since former Rep. Gabrielle Giffords was injured in a shooting massacre in a Tucson supermarket parking lot. As a mark of her amazing recovery from a severe brain injury, the former Congresswoman posed with her husband Mark Kelly for a Vogue photo shoot as they discuss their relationship and new gun control activism in an article for the magazine´s March 2013 issue. The former lawmaker is pictured relaxing at her Arizona home as she gazes longingly at her husband - softly taking hold of Kelly´s hand as the desert sun streams in to surround them.
|
Comments: I´m sorry, but this is just more than I can take. Her husband should be utterly ashamed of himself for exploiting her in this manner. It´s obvious he´s heavily promoting himself for a political run. I feel terrible for what happened to her, but this is way beyond the pale. You really have to wonder just how much she comprehends.

OP, where is her family? Guess what this couple is doing to exploit the tragedy doesn´t bother them. I hope nobody says they are probably scared. No excuse.

It´s the "Brady Paradigm".
She´s the poster child.
It´s all heartstrings and no logic for the left.
Were she to actually fully recover she would be of no value to them and they would dump her.
The left is shameless.

At last report, the Conservative Federal Judge that was killed in the same shooting is still dead.
And his family aren´t constantly in the news either!

A federal judge died in that parking lot. Why have we never heard anything about him? He must have been a conservative.

I also think he is a shameless individual. The look in her eyes is vacant, her expression is blank. How serious is the damage to her brain, does she understand what they expect of her? So very sad that he would use his wife in this way, for some agenda of his own or the influence of the Left. It is immoral.

Their previous mascot, Brady has gotten too old, so now they need a new, better looking mascot - Giffords. Mascot handler Sarah has been replace by husband/handler Mark.

Her husband Mark is pathetic. I feel very sorry for Gabby, and her injury is a tragedy, but the way the media and Mark exploit this poor woman is appalling. Everything they are proposing in gun control would not have stopped her injury. Where is the common sense on this issue?

Slowly morphing into Valerie Plame/Joe Wilson territory.
A democrat president was shot and killed by a gun. Guns weren´t banned after that, and they´re not going to get banned now because a back-bencher Rep. got shot.

I´m not convinced that Gabby Giffords understands what she´s saying, although the words are very simple. I´ve just looked at her gun control speech again and it reminds me even more of a young child´s first important performance.
I´ve searched for any reference to what "age" she seems to be after her traumatic brain injury and cannot find anything current.
I did find in one neurosurgeon´s opinion that with such injuries, about a year to 18 months is the stopping point for progress. Perhaps the news of a companion dog joining the household last October signals the stopping point has been reached, I don´t know. A service dog from the organization providing the Giffords dog is described as follows:
America´s VetDogs provides service dogs that can help recipients by performing tasks such as opening and closing doors, cabinets and drawers, turning on and off light switches, providing counterbalance support as a person walks or climbs stairs, "calling for help" (barking) if the person falls and can´t get up, retrieving items, alerting to seizures and also reacting to high or low blood sugar levels for those with diabetes.
The lack of an expert update on Giffords´ condition signals to me that her current state and prognosis is not that good. If anyone has a source such an update, please post same.

There´s a point beyond which tragedy can´t be exploited without becoming crass.
Doing a glossy, "intimate" photo spread in Vogue magazine is a barf-worthy bridge too far.

"Kelly, a former NASA astronaut, has constantly been by his wife´s side since she was targeted by gunman Jared Lee Loughner on January 8, 2011."
The most cursory of fact checking would have revealed that Kelly spent some time in space monitoring the computers that fly the Space Shuttle. Quota-NASA´s flight doctors thought he was okay to fly. I still do not, and think it was foolish to risk others´ lives on Kelly´s mental stability.

EXCLUSIVE: In the hallowed halls of Columbia University, a nest of ex-cons — who have served time for murder, attempted murder, robbery and assault — hold court on their unique brand of social justice for admiring students enrolled in the school´s social work program, a FoxNews.com investigation has found. The ex-cons work for or with the Criminal Justice Initiative (CJI), co-founded in 2009 by former Weather Underground operative and Columbia adjunct professor Kathy Boudin, who pleaded guilty to felony murder for her role in an infamous 1981 armed robbery that left two police officers and a security guard dead.

On Rush Limbaugh’s radio show this afternoon, Sen. Ted Cruz, R-Texas, denounced the Gang of Eight immigration reform bill, encouraging his audience to call their member of Congress to oppose the bill. Cruz noted there were about 20 Republican Senators that were on the fence about voting for the bill, but that he believed that it was “politically foolish” and “terrible for the country.” “It doesn’t fix the problem,” Cruz said. “We need to fix the problem, secure the borders and improve legal immigration.” Cruz dismissed the Congressional Budget Office report showing that the bill would actually decrease federal

President Obama´s visit to the Group of Eight summit has created a political row in Ireland after an outspoken liberal lawmaker on Wednesday denounced the U.S. president as a “war criminal” for his drone use and his decision to arm the Syrian rebels. Parliamentarian Clare Daly said her country´s government had showcased the country “as a nation of pimps, prostituting ourselves in return for a pat on the head,” The Irish Times reports. The “unprecedented slobbering” during Obama´s two-day visit to Northern Ireland, she said, had even led to speculation that “you were going to deck the

Billionaire businessman Ronald Perelman has helped land the wife of Republican House Majority Leader Eric Cantor on the board of directors of Revlon—the latest politically connected appointment to the board of a company he controls. Perelman, 70, has been a political player for decades. He dishes out large campaign checks. He employs a team of lobbyists to patrol the nation’s capital to protect his business interests. President Obama on Tuesday downplayed Afghan President Hamid Karzai’s decision to suspend talks on a long-term security deal with the U.S. in protest of the launch of formal peace talks with the Taliban. Karzai also pulled out of peace talks with the Taliban the Obama administration agreed to hold in Qatar, which are to begin Thursday. Obama said his administration had always anticipated "difficult negotiations." "We had extensive conversations with President Karzai both before and after the Taliban opened the office in Doha," Obama told reporters at a joint press conference in Berlin with German Chancellor Angela Merkel.

It probably wouldn´t have shocked political observers if Sen. Marco Rubio´s job approval ratings had taken a hit since becoming the Republican face of comprehensive immigration reform earlier this year. But the Florida Republican´s numbers in his home state are actually close to their best ever, according to a new Quinnipiac University poll released on Wednesday, though the senator did get low marks from voters for his handling of both immigration and gun control. Rubio had a job approval rating of 51 percent to 35 percent, the survey of registered voters found.

A group of whistleblowers, including a number of aviation experts, have come forward in a new documentary to claim that the official explanation for the crash of TWA Flight 800 was wrong and a gas tank explosion did not bring down the flight off the coast of Long Island 17 years ago. However, the six whistleblowers, all part of the original investigation team, stopped short of saying the plane was shot down. Flight 800, a Boeing 747, had just taken off from JFK airport with 230 people aboard on July 17, 1996 enroute to Paris when it exploded

An attorney whose firm represents two Benghazi whistleblowers said Gen. Martin Dempsey, chairman of the Joint Chiefs of Staff, lied to the Senate when he said there was never a “stand down” order during the Benghazi attack on Sept. 11, 2012. “What was fascinating is that he explained his lie to them,” Joe DiGenova, an attorney representing one of the whistleblowers, told CNSNews.com. “He actually said they were sent to Tripoli. They were needed in Benghazi,” said DiGenova, a former U.S. attorney, now with the Washington firm of DiGenova & Toensing.

Amid a steady rise of backlash, Edward Snowden, the 29-year-old former National Security Agency contractor who was the source of a spring of leaks about the agency´s surveillance methods, conducted a live chat on The Guardian´s website Monday morning. Judging from some of the pointed questions he´s been asked and the reaction to newly leaked revelations over the past few days, it´s clear that much of the sympathy and support Snowden had built up for his early exposures is eroding. Many Americans supported his decision to leak information about a pair of National Security Agency surveillance programs, which, he detailed, gathered information

Charlie Rose last night asked President Obama his new Syria policy. The president first objected to it being called a new policy. "I´m not sure you can characterize this as a new policy. This is consistent with the policy that I´ve had throughout," he said. Obama then explained the goal is regional stability, and especially in Syria. "Really, what we´re trying to do is take sides against extremists of all sorts and in favor of people who are in favor of moderation, tolerance, representative government, and over the long-term, stability and prosperity for the people of Syria," said Obama.

Marco Rubio. Paul Ryan. The IRS. Illegal immigration. And fraud to the tune of billions.. Now there’s a combustible mix. Let’s start with the IRS, illegal immigration and fraud. We’ll come back in a minute to Senator Rubio and Congressman Ryan. For those who came in late, a year before the IRS scandals burst onto the scene in early May of 2013, an alert investigative reporter for WTHR-Indianapolis (Channel 13), Bob Segall by name, produced a stunning piece of journalism. Segall’s video report is found here and we will quote from his story for the basics.
