| There was a slightly surreal context to this year’s State of the Union.[Snip] The State of the Union repeated a lot of the same themes of the past few years. That’s because a lot of Obama’s promises remain unfulfilled and are still reliant on slipping them through a hostile Congress. Take his signature pledge to raise the minimum wage to $9, which he insisted will stimulate the economy and create jobs. Back in 2008, Obama said he’s raise the minimum wage to $9.50 by 2011. I am by no means the most educated person.
But even I know that $9.50 minimum wage means people will then be able to go eat from the McDonald´s $2.00 value menu, as the $1.00 menu will cease to exist.

The minimum wage issue is very similar to the corporate income tax issue. These twits with no economic knowledge we have elected seem to believe that companies can print money. They never ask where companies get their money. The answer is of course from their customers. Raise the minimum wage, raise prices. Raise taxes, raise prices. Wage increase must come with productivity increases or prices must rise. Econ 101 (well... today the probably teach "Krugman" economics which make no sense).

I liked what Rubio had to say about it. He said he wanted people to make MORE than $9 per hour. However, he wanted the money to come from growth in industry- not from government mandate.
Obama and the democrats would be happy to have a permanent ´´peasant class´´ to cater to and rile up at election time. Class warfare works better when you have more poor people.

Higher minimum wage means more unemployed workers and more over worked employees. A task or job is worth to an employer only what that employer is willing to pay and not one dime more. All that is going to happen is that the employer will require that existing employees take on the additional tasks.

So far as I have been able to observe the entire nation is ignorant about any and all science. It is a shameful thing when ´humanities´ are more prized than realities among the masses. It leads to the decisions that have been made through ´feelings´. More than shameful; the state of affairs is pitiful.

Democrats just don´t seem to understand the simple concept of a BUDGET. They apparently think that if they don´t have an approved budget, why, then they can spend all they want.
Us common folks don´t have such a luxury of unlimited income. We have to live within a budget, and business owners don´t last long if they don´t. You can raise the minimum wage to $20 an hour, and your employees will then live much better lives... but you will only employ half as many employees as you would if the wage was $10 an hour. A quarter as many if it was $5 an hour, etc.
We wouldn´t have the need for higher wages if the leftists weren´t constantly raising the CostOfLiving through government and environ-mental regulations. Cheap energy is the basis for cheap everything.

A 91-year-old WWII veteran fighting to prevent his daughter from evicting him from his Ohio home has raised more than $138,000 from online donors to buy back his home, easily surpassing his goal. One of two men allegedly being questioned in connection with the Boston Marathon bombings was shot and killed by an FBI agent in Florida on Tuesday, (Snip)A friend of Ibragim Todashev said he and Todashev were being investigated as part of the Boston bombings. He said Todashev, 27, knew bombing suspect Tamerlan Tsarnaev because both were MMA fighters. The man claims he and Todashev were interviewed by the FBI for nearly three hours on Tuesday. The friend said he left the interview, and when he came back to the apartment he found that there had been a shooting.

The wheels came off the Obama administration yesterday. We learned of a startling assault on freedom of the press by the Department of Justice, following the revelation last week of the unprecedented information-gathering foray by that department against The Associated Press. Then, a few minutes later, the Justice Department’s inspector general released a report declaring that the US attorney in Arizona used the leak of a confidential memo to try to discredit a whistleblower in the notorious “gun-walking” scandal known as Fast and Furious (which got two federal agents killed). The leak was called “egregious.”

WASHINGTON – A top IRS official in the division that reviews nonprofit groups will invoke the Fifth Amendment and refuse to answer questions before a House committee investigating the agency’s improper screening of conservative nonprofit groups. Lois Lerner, the head of the exempt organizations division of the IRS, won’t answer questions about what she knew about the improper screening – or why she didn’t reveal it to Congress, according to a letter from her defense lawyer, William W. Taylor 3rd. Lerner was scheduled to appear before the House Oversight committee Wednesday.

House Oversight and Government Reform Committee Chairman Darrell Issa said embattled IRS official Lois Lerner waived her Fifth Amendment rights and will be hauled back to appear before his panel again. The California Republican said Lerner’s Fifth Amendment right to avoid self-incrimination was voided when she gave an opening statement this morning denying any wrongdoing and professing pride in her government service. “When I asked her her questions from the very beginning, I did so so she could assert her rights prior to any statement,” Issa told POLITICO. “She chose not to do so — so she waived.”
