| This evening, President Obama spent a fairly large chunk of the early part of his fifth State of the Union regurgitating the same tired ideas and bromides to fix the economy that we heard in his first State of the Union. This, even though these policies have delivered the slowest and most lackluster economic recovery in almost a century. (Snip) A few minutes after the president´s speech, Florida Senator Marco Rubio gave the Republican response, during which there was an awkward moment when he stopped to take a sip of water.
|
Comments: Rubio´s was a great speech, and the water pause we can relate to. Prior to this, my 81 y.o. mother said, "Listen - he needs a drink of water." So rather than distract us with a dry, rasping voice, he broke decorum and got himself a drink. Had he not done so, the media focus would have been on his dry, raspy voice, rather than the content of a good speech. How silly! Today´s media would have asked 148 years ago, "Aside from that, how was the play, Mrs. Lincoln?"

I missed that part (chasing cats), but who cares if he took a sip of water. If your throat is dry, take a drink! Big deal. People are so stupid and petty.

Chris Mathews is being crude as usual. This water bottle thing is the 0bama way of starting the destruction of Rubio.
If the LSM has any fairness (which they don´t), they´d remember how they treated Bill Clinton after his unending nomination speech of Dukakis. He just laughed, and they LOVED IT! Talk about "in the tank"!

The "media" have no conscience.
Both Rubio and Paul called for a balanced budget amendment to the Constitution. That, not any meaningless blather King Barack inflicted upon his subjects, is the real news from last night.

Eh, it was pretty funny -- especially the lead up to it as it was obvious boy wonder had a major case of the nervous dry mouth high school debaters often get when tgey find themselves in front of a big audience for the first time. Panic set in and he ackwardly guzzled that water rather hysterically. Not ready for prime time. And as much as he tries to sell himself on his biography, ala Oblahma, he sounds more like a preening John Edwards than an Obama. Say what you want about Dear Leader, but the guy is smooth.

Smooth? Obama is poorly educated and doesn´t even bother to read the papers. The U.S. is leading the charge in reducing meaningless carbon dioxide output and does Stinky the Gunrunner know it? No, ...he´s stupid. He is needlessly plowing under the US economy while by his measure we are doing more than anyone else in the world to reduce meaningless CO2. I mean, believing in Co2 catastrophism is the surest sign of a low intellect and toadying along with those who do, is no. 2. I´m so frustrated. Stinky has no idea what is going on.

Lucky for the media that Rubio got a drink of water during his speech. Now they have something petty and human to tweet about all day. Otherwise they might have had to discuss the speech.

Why couldn´t they put him at a podium with a glass of water, or at the very least have the water at arm´s length? The whole thing was so awkward and made me cringe. I knew the enemedia would harp on it! But I did love the speech!

The Sixth Circuit Court of Appeals has upheld the Obama administration’s denial of asylum granted to the Romeike family, who fled Germany over its strict anti-homeschooling laws. In a press release Tuesday, Michael Farris, founder and chairman of the Home School Legal Defense Association (HSLDA), said, “We believe the Sixth Circuit is wrong and we will appeal their decision. America has room for this family and we will do everything we can to help them.” The Romeikes fled Germany in 2008 when they were subjected to criminal prosecution for homeschooling, which is largely illegal in their country.

They are 1 percenters who are 100 percent despicable. Some wealthy Manhattan moms have figured out a way to cut the long lines at Disney World — by hiring disabled people to pose as family members so they and their kids can jump to the front, The Post has learned. The “black-market Disney guides” run $130 an hour, or $1,040 for an eight-hour day. “My daughter waited one minute to get on ‘It’s a Small World’ — the other kids had to wait 2 1/2 hours,” crowed one mom, who hired a disabled guide through Dream Tours Florida.

The shadow of Watergate is looming larger over the growing IRS and Associated Press leaks scandals amid I-know-nothing denials from the president and his attorney general, with Republicans smelling blood in the water and a former Nixon official saying the Obama administration needs to avoid the impulse to cover up. (snip) “This is how these situations unravel. First it gets blamed on some low-level employee and then it tracks back to Washington,” said Keith Appell, a Republican strategist based in Washington, D.C. “All the way back to Watergate when it was blamed on some third-rate burglary. The Internal Revenue Service scandal would be bad enough if the IRS just handled issues like collecting income taxes and granting nonprofit status. But the immensely powerful federal agency is about to become even more powerful with the arrival of national health care, and that makes the still-unfolding scandal even more troubling. (Snip) The IRS is critical to Obamacare. The structure created by the Affordable Care Act requires the government to know about both the health care coverage (or lack of it) and the financial resources of every American. The IRS, which already knows the latter, was the only

Victoria Toensing, Republican Counsel to the Senate Intelligence Committee, says her client, a State Department official now considered a whistle-blower in the investigation of the September 11, 2012 terrorist attack in Benghazi, has been "threatened" by Obama administration officials. According to Toensing, these threats weren´t related to ambiguous matters. Rather, they were "specifically about Benghazi." She says the threats went beyond the four State Department officials who´ve currently retained counsel. "People have been threatened at the CIA" as well, she claimed. (Snip) Toensing claimed the threats relate to ending the careers of those with information about the attacks who

Immigration bill grants amnesty to employers of illegals; no prosecution for bogus IDs

The debate is raging over whether the latest immigration bill is an amnesty for illegal immigrants, but one part is clear: The legislation would forgive businesses that have employed those immigrants illegally. Employers who have allowed illegal immigrants to work off the books can come forward safely and provide their work history without fear of prosecution, and businesses that knowingly employed someone using a bogus or stolen Social Security number likewise would get a pass, according to an analysis of the bill by the Center for Immigration Studies, a think tank that wants a crackdown on immigration.

Greeley, Colo.—Two billboards in which images of Native Americans are used to make a gun rights argument are causing a stir with some residents who say the image is offensive and insensitive. The billboards in this northern Colorado city show three men dressed in traditional Native American attire and the words "Turn in your arms. The government will take care of you." Matt Wells, an account executive with Lamar Advertising in Denver, said Monday a group of local residents purchased the space. "They have asked to remain anonymous," he said. He also refused to disclose the cost, but said the

What did President Obama do on the evening of 9/11/12 when our men were under attack in Benghazi? The invaluable Andrew McCarthy reminds us that Obama and Secretary Clinton had a 10:00 p.m. phone call of which many (including, I think, Chris Wallace) have lost sight. This morning when Wallace asked Obama aide Dan Pfeiffer what Obama was up to that evening, Pfeiffer declared the line of inquiry “offensive.” Translation: Obama and his minions would prefer to “move on” and are warning the likes of FNC off:(Snip for video)The Weekly Standard’s Daniel Halper has posted the rush transcript

WASHINGTON - There were new questions Saturday night concerning if anyone in the White House was aware of the IRS´ targeting of conservative groups. Inspector General Russell George said he informed a deputy at the Treasury Department in June of 2012 about the probe into the IRS. The Treasury Department confirmed the timeline but said they did not know the details of the investigation until last week.(Snip)Marcus Owens ran the tax-exempt division at the IRS for 10 years. He said it isn´t difficult to figure out who´s doing what at the agency.

PRESIDENT OBAMA: You are the mantle of Frederick Douglass and Booker T. It began in earnest last Friday. A flash mob of latte drinking, tofu eating media that has done its best to quell, rather than fan the flames of truth, turned on one of their own. Jay Carney lay bludgeoned at the base of the podium, a victim of friendly fire. Ironically, the attack was reminiscent of the one in Benghazi he has repeatedly denied the Administration he represents bears any responsibility for. “Changed twelve times?!” came the cries. And with good reason. We were misled; no, lied to.

In the wake of one of the worst abuses of government power in recent history, many are rushing to frame the Internal Revenue Service scandal as simply an attack on conservative activists. That view risks creating a partisan political football and misses a fundamentally scarier abuse that exceeds the scandals of Watergate or any other prior government abuse. The IRS has admitted that since May 2010 it targeted grassroots-conservative organizations that had applied for tax-exempt status, unfairly subjecting them to rigorous scrutiny due to their political leanings. Such groups were told they were required to comply with IRS requests,

Treasury Secretary Jack Lew on Friday urged congressional leaders to raise the debt limit and insisted that the White House is not going to negotiate over the increase because lawmakers have "no choice." "We will not negotiate over the debt limit," Lew wrote. "The creditworthiness of the United States is non-negotiable. The question of whether the country must pay obligations it has already incurred is not open to debate." Lew said that while President Obama is willing to discuss plans to reduce the nation´s deficit with Congress, those talks must be kept separate from any effort to raise the nation´s debt cap.

Washington – Sen. Claire McCaskill, D-MO, issued a video statement Friday in response to reports that the Internal Revenue Service unfairly targeted conservative nonprofit groups. (Snip) “There’s a reason Lady Justice wears a blindfold in America. That is because in America, we don’t apply the law based on who you are, who you know, or what you believe. We apply the law equally.” “We should not only fire the head of the IRS, which has occurred, but we’ve got to go down the line and find every single person who had anything to do with this and make sure
