NEW YORK – When Joe the Affenpinscher won the 137th Westminster Kennel Club Dog Show on Tuesday night, his handler Ernesto Lara raised him high towards the rafters as if to say, "We did it!" The uncommon dog with a familiar name proved that he was no regular Joe by becoming the first of his breed to win Best in Show at Madison Square Garden. The 9-year-old Affenpinscher´s full name is Banana Joe V Tani Kazari, but his handlers just call him Joe. The Affenpinscher is known for its monkey-like face but human-like qualities. For the last three years,

Comments:
Far more fun than watching the SOTU. The sheepdog that went reserve was also outstanding.

That was a really good BIS grouping to choose from. Congrats to Banana Joe and Swagger! And yes, the show was way more educational and made more sense than wasting another couple of hours of my life watching the SOTU.

Loved the little Affenpinscher and the Bichon. The terrier judge was lazy and the worst I´ve ever seen at Westminster.

I agree this was much better than watching the SOTU.

I loved the American Foxhound and the German Wirehair Pointer. But all of the dogs were special in their own way. Having watched the Westminster Dog Show for three years now, I am partial to the herding and working dog groups, as well as the sporting group. I learn so much, and there are always new breeds I´ve never heard of. I´m fascinated with the history of each breed and their unique purposes.

All jokes aside, I really really thought the Portuguese water dog would win, just to be pc and all. There were certainly many new breeds seen. Thoroughly enjoyed watching the event. Nothing says loving like a dog.

I agree the Affenpinscher was adorable, but I´m partial to Bichons. We are now down to one. Our beloved little 12 yr old had to be put down in Sept. because of an anurysim. His cousin, Lady Madeline is 13. We ALL grieved.

Anyway, watching the dog show was sooo much better than listening to another lecture from the One.

Absolutely loved the sheepdog! What a glorious representative of the breed! I loved them all. I tend to agree with y´all on the Terrier Group judge.

I also watched it...I would have watched it even if Mitt was giving the SOTU speech(well I could have seen it on the internet!!) Loved all of it...One of my Maltese came in second Best of Breed in 2005..so proud of her..and she was immediately retired so she could come home....

Congrats #8! Impressive! My best friend trying to talk me into getting a Maltese. She absolutely loves hers.

Loved this alternate dog show. It had so much more class. So many cute pooches but Swagger (what a perfect name) was my favorite.

My daughter and I had fun playing fashion police critiquing the ´couture´ of the women handlers. Where, oh where, do they get their duds and shoes? From suits not even carried by Goodwill anymore to MOB dresses from the fifties to shoes I´ve never seen in any era? They seem to be parodying the parody "Best in Show."

But love the show and never miss it.

The Affenpinscher is cute. Not very common - I´ve seen one a couple times. I like when an old hound dog wins. Does that happen anymore? Maybe next year.

I´ll stick with rescuing dogs from the shelter.

Franklin Graham: IRS targeted us, too

The IRS came after Billy Graham, too, his son charged Tuesday in a letter to President Barack Obama. With the IRS admitting it gave extra scrutiny to conservative political organizations, Graham says he now believes that the review was part of an Obama administration effort of “targeting and attempting to intimidate us.” The Billy Graham Evangelistic Association urging of voters to back “candidates who base their decisions on biblical principles and support the nation of Israel” during last year’s presidential race was the reason why IRS agents visited the North Carolina offices of both Graham groups, the letter accuses

Internal Revenue Service officials in Washington and at least two other offices were involved in the targeting of conservative groups seeking tax-exempt status, making clear that the effort reached well beyond the branch in Cincinnati that was initially blamed, according to documents obtained by The Washington Post. IRS officials at the agency’s Washington headquarters sent queries to conservative groups asking about their donors and other aspects of their operations, while officials in the El Monte and Laguna Niguel offices in California sent similar questionnaires to tea party-affiliated groups.

Just months after being slimed by President Barack Obama’s re-election campaign, Mitt Romney supporter and businessman Frank VanderSloot was informed that he was going to be audited not only by the Internal Revenue Service, but by the Labor Department as well. VanderSloot’s saga was told by columnist Kimberley Strassel in the Wall Street Journal last July. In April 2012, VanderSloot, who served as the national co-chair of Mitt Romney’s presidential finance committee, was one of eight Romney backers to be defamed as ”wealthy individuals with less-than-reputable records”

2013 featured the winter that wouldn’t end. Here in Minneapolis, the snow has finally melted and leaves are starting to come out on the trees. Farther north, though, the lakes are still largely frozen. This weekend is the opening of Minnesota’s fishing season, one of the most important dates on the calendar. But it’s hard to go after those walleyes when you’re dodging ice on the lake. The Minneapolis Star Tribune posted this mournful account:Fishing season began Saturday in Minnesota, and in some cases involving significant determination, fishing began Saturday, too. Anglers were greeted by temperatures far colder

Washington - A federal watchdog´s upcoming report says senior Internal Revenue Service officials knew agents were targeting tea party groups in 2011. The disclosure contradicts public statements by former IRS Commissioner Douglas Shulman, who repeatedly assured Congress that conservative groups were not targeted. On Friday, the IRS apologized for what it acknowledged was "inappropriate" targeting of conservative political groups during the 2012 election to see if those groups were violating their tax-exempt status. The Treasury´s inspector general for tax administration is expected to

CLEVELAND, Ohio -- When FBI agents questioned Fernando Colon in 2004 about the recent disappearance of 14-year-old Gina DeJesus, Colon pointed agents toward Ariel Castro as a possible suspect, Colon recalled this week. Colon, who at the time was living with Castro´s ex-wife, said he told the agents that Castro´s two daughters knew DeJesus and Amanda Berry, who had gone missing from the same area on Cleveland´s West Side a year earlier. The brothers accused of holding three women captive for a decade or more grew up around their father´s car lot off West 25th Street surrounded by a large family. They were smart, funny and loved classic cars. Two, however, appeared to drink heavily, while the other battered his former wife and threatened to kill her and their children, according to friends, family and court records. Two brothers had long since stopped working, while the other was fired in November after 22 years as a Cleveland schools bus driver. When you get right down to it, the political targeting and stalling of tax-exempt applications by the IRS was an effort to defund the Tea Party. Rick Santelli, one of the Tea Party founders and my CNBC colleague, was the first to make this point. I’ve taken it a step further: The IRS was taking the Tea Party out of play for the 2012 election, as it looked to avoid a repeat of 2010 and another Tea Party landslide. There are a lot of numbers out there.

Conservative radio host Mark Levin is very skeptical of the idea that President Obama had absolutely no idea about the IRS tea party targeting before the story broke in the news mere weeks ago. Levin declared adamantly that it is a “flat-out, bald-faced lie” that Obama didn’t know beforehand, citing prior reports by a few conservative news outlets picking up on the news well before the 2012 presidential election. Levin said, “I don’t believe for two seconds that Obama wasn’t aware of this.”

President Obama on Thursday nominated Victoria Nuland, a State Department official involved in the editing of the administration´s talking points on Benghazi, to be the next assistant secretary of state for European and Eurasian affairs. Nuland, a career foreign service officer who was until recently State´s top spokesperson, had long been expected to be nominated the post to replace Philip Gordon, who Obama picked to serve as Middle East coordinator for the National Security Council. Nuland´s nomination -- which requires Senate confirmation -- could come under scrutiny from Republicans who see her as playing a central role in shaping

What´s so interesting about 60 tea partiers protesting the IRS in San Jose, California on Tuesday, May 21st? The fact that this bit of information was conveyed to the protesters by a Department of Homeland Security officer who was also in attendance. What was a DHS agent doing at the San Jose Tea Party protest? (snip) they weren´t just spying on us in San Jose and monitoring us in San Francisco, they were watching us throughout the entire state

Anthony Weiner’s New York mayoral candidacy was only made more improbable today after he revealed that he visited a Houston psychiatric facility following his resignation from Congress in 2011. Haunted by scandal surrounding his sexually explicit online communications with women, the Democratic former congressman sought treatment for his compulsive behavior from mental health professionals at the Gabbard Center. According to its website, the facility provides “3-day outpatient psychiatric evaluation,” particularly to “professionals who are in personal or professional crises.” While Weiner did not disclose

On “Fox News Sunday” last weekend, White House aide Dan Pfeiffer was asked about President Barack Obama’s whereabouts the night of the Sept. 11 attack in Benghazi. This was the night when we lost our first ambassador in 30 years, and when three other Americans were killed in an attack that lasted all night long at multiple locations within the eastern Libyan city. Since the president is commander in chief, one would think where he was and what he did during such an event would be of obvious public concern.
