| Passengers on the nightmare Carnival cruise ship stranded in the Gulf of Mexico are using patchy cellphone coverage today to reveal that ´conditions are getting worse by the hour´. Some of the 4,200 people on board reported that cabin carpets are soaked in urine, passengers are sleeping in tents on deck and scarce food supplies has reduced them to eating cold onion sandwiches. The ship has been stranded since Sunday after a fire in the engine room crippled the power system. The first tug boat reached the Carnival Triumph on Monday night and it is being towed to Mobile, Alabama

Onion sandwiches? Add onion breath to the problems.

All they need is some stomach virus and it will deliver the whole cruise package! And let´s not forget running aground while being towed into port!
Compensation will be a voucher for another cruise!

Would they rather be on a sinking ship?
Would they rather be at sea in a lifeboat.
Man up!!!

They should think positive. Make it an adventure. They will have something else to tell the grandkids about.
Getting angry and pouting will not improve their situation. Plus, I´m sure the cruise line will compensate them adequately.
Of course, the media will make them all victims, who are so traumatized that they will never be whole again....

They are receiving a full refund for this cruise and another free cruise. Of course there will be conditions on what their free cruise can be- probably certain ships, cabins, and dates only. Cruiselines never compensate with anything but a full or partially discounted future cruise and maybe a small amount of on-board credit to spend on the next cruise. Certainly there will be negligence lawsuits.
Maintanence is suffering on most cruiselines in these economic times as cruise fares have mostly all been discounted to get people on the ships. Carnival Corp makes billions in profit every year so no need to feel sorry for them.

Why is there urine in the hallways. Don´t they understand they are in the Gulf. Make do with what is available. Maybe they are worried the EPA will fine them.

I have cruised over 40 times. I don´t buy the onion sandwich story. The ship has plans for this type of unfortunate event, and p&j sandwiches, or cheese sandwiches with chips most likely are available along with fruit, at the very least. It always pays to book a private balcony, both for sleeping and to dump the wastebasket after emergency use.s/ Bottled water for washing hands.

Maybe this particular boat doesn´t have a Poop deck. Why would the place be awash in sewage when all you need do is hang IT (whichever it need be) over the side?

Why are they stuck there until Thursday? This whole saga seems unnecessarily drawn out. Is someone trying to save some money?
Some of the stories do seem over-the-top. I´m sure there is an effort being made to portray it as twice as horrible as it is in order to build grounds for lawsuits.

I don´t know if these stories are accurate or not, but being on a cruise ship is not like being on a fishing boat. The ocean is many feet below the deck, and there are balconies all the way down.
This situation sounds totally unacceptable to me, and I would sue their pants off. No voucher for another cruise would cut it for me.

After only a couple of days, the people are living like caged monkeys? Why are the carpets soaked in urine? Why is sewage running down the walls? That makes absolutely no sense. Are people actually peeing any and everywhere or is it because their sewage system overflowed everywhere? Even so, that makes no sense. If they have an emergency generator, why don´t they use it to ensure the basic sanitary conditions? Why are people living like cavemen when they know better? There must be better ways to handle human waste! Or is it that people just don´t care these days??? For some reason, I can´t see people letting stuff like this happen some years back...

This can happen to any of those cruise ships at anytime. Once they have a fire in or near the engine room that knocks out the power they are usually done. The passengers are lucky that they were sailing in fair weather, because a high profile ship like that, without power, sailing in high wind, would turn either bow on, or stern on, into the wind and start rocking back and forth.
I was on one last year South of Aruba when an engine went out. They had to stop for several hours until they could get the power up and running, lucky we were in calm seas and did not end up in Venezuela.
So apparently it is not unusual for those cruise ships to break down, and you can bet that with the economic situation being what it is, the cruise ship companies are allowing a lot of heavy engine maintenance to slide.

A uniformed French soldier on anti-terrorist duties in Paris had his throat cut by a knife-wielding man tonight. The savage attack follows the murder of a British soldier by two men using weapons including knives and a meat cleaver. One of the suspects said they were acting in the name of Islam. Today there were fears that the Paris attack was a copy-cat crime and that a radical Muslim might once more be responsible. French Defence Minister Jean-Yves Le Drian said he believes the attack was aimed to kill the soldier. French president Francois Hollande said authorities were investigating any

Barack Obama announced an end to America’s war on terror last week. In future, he declared, he would restrict the unmanned drone attacks that had been his own signature anti-terrorist initiative, and he would really, really make an effort to shut down the prison camp at Guantánamo Bay--as he had promised to do way back when he was running for president the first time. Presumably, this pronouncement was designed to win back the favour of the liberal media, which has been energetically disowning him ever since his administration staggered into the most spectacular series of Washington scandals since Watergate.

There has been a sixth night of rioting in Sweden´s capital, Stockholm, despite police reinforcements being deployed. Cars were set alight in poor suburbs inhabited largely by immigrants, although the unrest was reportedly not as serious as on previous nights. The rioting also spread outside the capital for the first time on Friday, with youths torching vehicles and buildings in two towns. [Snip] It is believed they were sparked by the death of an elderly man nearly a week before, who was shot by police after he allegedly threatened to kill them with a machete.

The leader of the Lebanese Shia militant Hezbollah movement, Hassan Nasrallah, has promised his supporters victory in Syria, where his fighters are backing President Bashar al-Assad. Mr Nasrallah said Hezbollah would stay in the conflict till the end. Syrian rebels in the besieged town of Qusair say they are under heavy bombardment from Hezbollah combatants. The town is close to the Lebanese border, a conduit for both the government and rebels to get weapons. [Snip] He said his movement could never be aligned with Syrian rebels who, in his view, were supported by the United States and Israel.

One of the men suspected of murdering a soldier in Woolwich, south-east London, was detained by police two months ago, Sky News has been told. Local shopkeepers say Michael Adebowale was part of a group of Muslim activists who had been reported to police several times. They were told the authorities were aware of him. It comes as a preliminary report into what the intelligence services knew about Adebowale and his fellow suspect Michael Adebolajo is set to be handed over to an inquiry next week. Sir Malcolm Rifkind, chairman of the parliamentary Intelligence and Security Committee, said he had

Washington rumor has it that Obama wants to be U.N. Secretary General. There are several reasons that make that likely, and if it´s true, it throws new light on a lot of Obama´s oddities -- including his Royalty Bows, his Apology Tours, his Muslim Sellout, and the Benghazi Cover-Up. But first -- why would Obama be planning to become the chief of the U.N. before he has even finished his second term?

President Obama on Thursday nominated Victoria Nuland, a State Department official involved in the editing of the administration´s talking points on Benghazi, to be the next assistant secretary of state for European and Eurasian affairs. Nuland, a career foreign service officer who was until recently State´s top spokesperson, had long been expected to be nominated the post to replace Philip Gordon, who Obama picked to serve as Middle East coordinator for the National Security Council. According to its website, the facility provides “3-day outpatient psychiatric evaluation,” particularly to “professionals who are in personal or professional crises.” While Weiner did not disclose

On Wednesday, Drummer Lee Rigby of the Royal Regiment of Fusiliers, a man who had served Queen and country honorably in the hell of Helmand Province in Afghanistan, emerged from his barracks on Wellington Street, named after the Duke thereof, in southeast London. Minutes later, he was hacked to death in broad daylight and in full view of onlookers by two men with machetes who crowed "Allahu Akbar!" as they dumped his carcass in the middle of the street like so much roadkill. MARK LEVIN: So why didn´t Chairman Issa hold an investigative hearing a year ago? Why didn´t Chairman Camp, all Republicans, hold an investigative hearing a year ago, and all the other tripping over themselves right now? I´ll tell you why. Because the establishment Republicans, the RINO Republicans, despise the Tea Party. They despise the conservative movement. We exist to be managed, to be shuttled to the polling place, to vote for their candidates. The Karl Roves of the world, and all the rest of them. They fight us in the primaries, they fight us at the grassroots.

WASHINGTON —In a dramatic departure from existing White House procedures, President Obama requested today that his staff start cc’ing him on stuff. “Look, I know a lot of you think I’m really busy and you don’t want to bother me,” the President reportedly told his staff in an Oval Office meeting. “But cc me anyway. It’s good for me to keep up on what’s going on around here.” “It’s not good when I turn on the news and they’re talking about something at the White House and I’m like, whoa, when did that happen?”
