True to form, CNN, Reuters, and other media outlets used the announcement of Pope Benedict XVI´s retirement to dwell on ancient sex scandals, opposition to gay marriage, and a host of other things the media have never liked about a Pope who would not hew to whatever worldview the chattering classes embraced at the moment "As a Catholic, I´m not buying this," tweeted hysterical chatterer, Piers Morgan, a "modern world" Catholic
No one should have been as crippled and ill as Pope John Paul II was before he "left" his post by his death. If the current Pope is unable to carry out his duties, it is right that he should step aside. I am betting he thought he was too ill to deliver the upcoming Easter message.
I am not Catholic, but I pray that a strong defender of their faith will be chosen, not a "historical" choice like a black or Latin-American. Unless those choices happen to embrace traditional church teachings.
As our faith gets watered down, church attendance dwindles, no matter what your particular religion is. If nothing is considered sinful anymore than what point is there in having a conscience? Or is that why a lot of younger people raised in secular homes don´t seem to have a conscience in the first place?

The MSM bows before the trinity of abortion, gay marriage and women priests. The Catholic church will not cave on these beliefs. Therefore according to Pope MSM, the church is filled with infidels and must be destroyed. That´s their story and they´re sticking to it.
I suspect the French animosity toward Cardinal Ratzinger had more to do with the fact that he is German than Ratzinger´s position on issues. Though they have been at peace for sixty five years, the thousand year mutual hatred between the two countries persists below the surface. Then again, France, once the most Catholic of countries, is now one of the most secular, and socialist to boot. It may be that their opposition to B16 may be just a reflection of their general disdain for religion.
From what I have read so far on the internet, there are two Italians and a French Canadian in the running for Pope. One of the Italians, whose name escapes me at the moment, is thought to be the favorite choice of the current Pope. None of them is black.
I think the media wants a black choice for Pope simply because it would make their guy Obama look better. The College of Cardinals should not cave to social pressure on this very important selection.
In Michael Agar´s book entitled Language Shock: Understanding the Culture of Conversation, he asks "[h]ow do you speak and act a lie at the same time?" Agar maintains that there are three characteristics of an act that tell ... whether a lie occurred or not: I. The sentence is false; 2. The person knows it´s false; 3. The person intends to deceive. A lie isn´t just what´s in the discourse; it´s also what´s in the circumstances of the act of speaking, like the knowledge and intentions of the speaker. Furthermore, "the thing that most people would say makes a lie
Organizing for Action (OFA), which lives at the web address barackobama.com because it is an outgrowth of the Obama presidential campaigns, is shamelessly seeking to exploit the deaths of school children at the hands of a maniac in Newtown, CT. I am beyond words. How low can you go?
Global warming hysterics at the BBC warned us in 2007 that by summer 2013, the Arctic would be ice-free. As with so many other doomsday predictions by warmists, the results turn out to be quite the opposite. The UK Daily Mail reports: A chilly Arctic summer has left 533,000 more square miles of ocean covered with ice than at the same time last year - an increase of 29 per cent. (snip) The Northwest Passage from the Atlantic to the Pacific has remained blocked by pack-ice all year. More than 20 yachts that had planned to sail it have been left
Barack Obama is a man with only one core conviction. He has, as the basic foundation of his otherwise disorganized and uncertain belief system, the irrefutable tenet that the United States, because of its European roots, has been the epitome of oppression and arrogance throughout its history. Therefore, he is able to rationalize the need to say or do anything as the transformation of American society and the end of the pre-eminent status of the United States are his sole objectives. He has, thus, adopted a pre-meditated schizophrenic personality wherein he comports himself as an apologist and appeaser on the
Liberal media bon pensants are in a huff over remarks delivered by London´s Mayor Boris Johnson suggesting that IQ and effort have something to do with income. (snip) Britain´s Guardian, which regards itself as the leading organ of the left wing intelligentsia, busied itself ginning up an editorial pretending that Johnson is probably a racist: [Johnson used] a bizarre metaphor - "The harder you shake the pack, the easier it will be for some cornflakes to get to the top" - which was likely designed to confuse with colour, and make sure that this ambitious politician didn´t say too much.
The University of Colorado at Boulder is known for being one of the most politically correct campuses in the United States, particularly when it comes to Native American cultures. (snip) I think it is absolutely fine to name the dorms after the chiefs. My problem is with the pretensions of fighting "cultural chauvinism" and "primitivization." The plain fact is that the Araphao or Hinono´ei Language was a preliterate language, unlike French. Any rendering of the language into Roman letters should qualify as "cultural chauvinism." There is no way at all to put into a foreign system of writing a preliterate
In June 2013, Judge Beryl Howell of the U.S. District Court for the District of Columbia dismissed the Pacific Legal Foundation (PLF)´s case that ObamaCare violates the Constitution´s Origination Clause. This clause reads, "All bills for raising revenue shall originate in the House of Representatives; but the Senate may propose or concur with amendments as on other Bills." (snip)Judge Howell was likely wrong to have dismissed PLF´s lawsuit against ObamaCare for, among other reasons, not violating the Origination Clause´s second half.
President Obama will cast growing income inequality and a decline in economic mobility as a “fundamental threat to the American dream” during a speech Wednesday in Washington. The speech will serve as an early preview for next year’s State of the Union address, according to a White House official, who said Obama would focus much of his energy over the next three years on the issue. “The decisions we make over the next few years will determine whether or not our children will grow up in an America where, if you work hard, you can get ahead,” the official said.
Good stuff from Jonathan Turley at today’s House hearing on executive power, although I regret that I couldn’t find a more user-friendly format for you to watch. There’s no compilation clip; you’ll have to make do with the C-SPAN embed by fast-forwarding to the time cues I give you and being patient while the vid buffers (and buffers, and buffers).(Snip)That brings us to point two: Even if Congress can’t stop Obama, the courts can. The problem there, though, says Turley, is that O and the DOJ have argued successfully in many cases that no one has standing to sue him
Bill Clinton, the cliché goes, was the first black president, no matter his skin color. That being the case, Barack Obama is not the first black president, or the first African-American president, if you prefer, but the first hippie president. Clinton’s southern background and lifestyle were indeed more typically black, just as Obama’s was more typically hippie. And we’re not just talking about the “Choom gang” here, scarfing “Maui Wowie” on the sands of Oahu. We’re talking about all of it, the whole multi-culti-missing-white-mother-vanished-Kenyan-father-anti-imperialist-America-is-always-the-enemy-and-don’t-you-forget-it-nine-yards. And like most hippie culture as I knew and experienced it, it wasn’t about “peace and love.” Not
During a presentation at the White House in which President Barack Obama touted the benefits of the Affordable Care Act, the president declared that his signature health care reform law was not going to be repealed. This assertion led his administration members, his staff, and audience members to rise from their seats and give the president a standing ovation. Obama said that ACA opponents’ alternative to the health care reform law is to champion repeal and going back to the health care delivery system status quo ante. He specifically cited Sen. Mitch McConnell (R-KY) who he said was asked directly for
A woman has revealed how difficult it is to eat healthily and stay full when living off an average food stamp budget. Melinda Moulton, from Huntington, Vermont, was one of 200 people to take part in the 3Squares Challenge, which saw her living for a week on just $36 worth of food, or around $1.71 a meal. Opting to try and eat as healthily as possible, Ms Moulton resorted to cheap foods like yogurt for breakfast, two handfuls of peanuts for lunch and lentil stew for dinner, all of which left her unsatisfied.´I don´t know how people do it,´ said
[Video] President Obama on Wednesday declared that addressing income inequality would be the focus of “all” of the White House’s efforts “for the rest of my presidency.” In a sweeping address that touched on raising the minimum wage, investing in infrastructure and ending tax breaks for the wealthy, Obama warned that the American economy has become “profoundly unequal,” declaring economic mobility the “challenge of our time.” “The combined trends of increasing inequality and decreasing mobility pose a fundamental threat to the American dream, our way of life, and what we stand for around the globe,” he said in an hour-long
Just over two weeks ago, MSNBC host Martin Bashir delivered a harsh piece of commentary that culminated in the suggestion that someone should “s-h-i-t” in former Alaska Governor Sarah Palin‘s (R-AK) mouth. Bashir offered an abject apology on his next broadcast, but a chorus of critics continued to demand action against the host. After a reported “vacation” for the host earlier this week, Bashir announced, Wednesday afternoon, that MSNBC and Martin Bashir are parting ways. Here’s the statement from Martin Bashir, via email: After making an on-air apology, I asked for permission to take some additional time out around the Thanksgiving holiday. Upon
