That having been said, what that child deserved was to be raised in a decent neighborhood without feral animals roaming the streets. My parents had to move a lot because of my father´s job, and they often would select a modest house in the town with safe streets and great schools, instead of living in a much larger place in a bad neighborhood. When parents make sacrifices for their kids, those sacrifices pay off. The decesased young lady´s mother does not look like one to make sacrifices for anyone. Now she can join the Gabby Giffords-Mark Kelly Express and make a buck off of her misfortune.

It is a shame when someone is killed and someone is promising as this young lady was. But, you need to start cleaning up your neighborhoods, maybe you should have moved if it was so dangerous, maybe you should have spoken up and demanded gang violence be stopped, maybe you could have worked with the police to identify gang members. Start in the inner city neighborhoods and that is where the revolution you desire against guns should start.

The city failed to keep a public park it knew was near a school safe for the community. It allowed a gang to take over the space. That is what set the stage for Hadiya´s murder. I would be delighted to see zero tolerance for gangs. They are criminal enterprises, and there´s not a doubt in my mind that Hadiya´s killers have rap sheets showing one slap on the wrist after another, rather than serious punishment.

My sympathies on the loss of your bright and lovely daughter, Ms. Cowley. I know nothing could be more difficult. Re: mink coats...here in Durham, fur coats are almost exclusively seen on black women (not white) even on the most balmy days and even in the most inappropriate settings, such as waiting rooms at Duke Medical Center.

The two who have been arrested had illegal guns. Gun control would have done nothing to stop them. In fact, in Illinois, it´s already illegal to have a concealed carry (but soon to be legal, with permits, thanks to SCOTUS).
