Hold On To Your Wallets: Price
Of Gas Approaches $4 A Gallon

BALTIMORE — Hold on to your wallets. Gas prices make the biggest February jump in decades. Adam May explains why. At the rate we’re going experts say $4 a gallon is just around the corner. 2013 is on track to be one of the most expensive years to fill ‘er up. Gas prices in Maryland–up 16 cents in just one month–nationally up 17 cents. AAA says it’s just the beginning. “The way prices have been increasing over the past few weeks we wouldn’t be surprised to see prices approach near $4 a gallon here in Maryland,” said Christine Delise, AAA.

Comments:
In our area it jumped to $3.50/Gal. this morning. Higher taxes, higher energy costs, higher medical costs, etc... How do you like Obama II so far?

I assume the press will blame Bush for the high cost of gas, can´t blame Obama.

Gee, odd that prices dropped just long enough to reelect the red diaper doper baby.

And just why, exactly, isn´t Obama getting blamed for this?
Wuzzat? He´s a (D)?
Nah, that can´t be the reason.
I remember senate hearings with the previous president.

The USA country is EXPORTING crude, not enough refineries. WHY?

How much of the hike is attributable to increasingly scarce ethanol, which thanks to the Energy Policy Act of 2005 must be included in gasoline? Congress eliminated the ethanol subsidy but not the mandate, so any increases in ethanol prices are reflected in the pump price.

Everyone should be reminded that when this lame-brain took command the price of regular gas was $1.75.

How much longer are we going to put up with this???

#6 - Thanks for pointing out that the ethanol mandate was kept. The upside is intead of the hardworking subsidizing this madness with our taxes, the 47% now gets to pay their "fair share". That part I like, but its yet another example of the GOP only going half-way. The mandate should have been dumped along with the subsidy.

Prices jumped 45 cents in one week here in rural northern California. Regular is $3.98, midgrade $4.08, and supreme at $4.18.

Obama is so awesome! We don´t have to go to France for vacation, we´re all Europeans now. /heavy s

I paid $4.59 this past weekend for regular unleaded in Santa Barbara, California. Premium unleaded was selling for $4.99/gallon.

Actually, the US isn´t allowed to export crude. They can however run it through some very simple processes and ship the products. The big problem is that no one predicted that entrepreneurs would develop the process of horizontal drilling and hydraulic fracture sufficiently to extract 1.5 million barrels a day of oil from tight formations by the end of 2012. And the refineries were prepped for getting very heavy sour crude and the light sweet crude doesn´t fit the investment. It would be nice if tar sands would finally arrive at the Gulf of Mexico, but the ditherer in chief has slowed that by at least a year. The good news is that oil from Eagle Ford has made the connection to the gulf so the east coast refineries can be supplied by ship (large barges).

you have to love it............if you are a demo or part of the left, I guess that is redundant, high gas prices is just what they dream of

#5 To my knowledge the USA does not export oil, as it is illegal to do so. There might be some limited exceptions to this, but those are due to oil not being able to reach market from where it is produced due to pipeline or other logistical issues.

It´s actually unfair that oil cannot be exported and is a subsidy from royalty owners and small producers to the large domestic refineries. Oil international prices are marketedly higher than Texas Sweet Crude for this reason.

Also, note that crude oil is not uniform. Refineries have to blend it to get the corect mix for gasoline. As a result, often there is some sort of extra type of crude that needs to go to some other market.

It´s about $4 here in California. But it isn´t ONLY gas prices...the price of everything goes up when gas prices jump. Food is ridiculously high now. $6 for a gallon of milk?? $1.32 for ONE tomato??

It is that time of year for EPA mandated fuel changes but it does seems a little early.

Remember the $8.00 a gallon of gas goal ?

Gas, food, utilities, and almost everything else is up, while paychecks are down.

Ah did not vote for that man-either time.

I have no idea whose conducting this poll but out here in certain parts of California, we have not seen gaiAt s prices so low as $4.00 a gallon in a number of years. At its peak, it was around $5.20 - $5.80... as the Dems want it wait until $8.00 a gallon is the new normal. Here in CA $4.50 - $4.75 is our new normal. People, here have lost jobs because they cannot pay the price of petrol to get to their work.

I do believe that is BO´s agenda...BK everyone into poverty so they have no jobs, no cars, no homes, no bank accounts. Confiscate property and either hand to the highest bidder or don it out to your "next best friend". = $donor. That is BO´s concept of "fair share" and "spread the wealth around".

LOS ANGELES -- flocking to Southern California beaches are used to feeding the meter or paying a parking attendant. Not so along the less developed north coast where it´s customary to ditch cars on the shoulder of Highway 1 to surf, swim or picnic. That sandy line that long defined the state´s disparate beach culture may soon fade. In search of new revenue, the state parks system is eyeing parking fees for parts of the Northern California shoreline where none existed or considering hiking rates to visit popular beaches south of Los Angeles during peak periods.

Palm Beach, Fla. - On a Monday morning in March, small business owner Mike Ruffer told a group at the Heritage Foundation in Washington, D.C, how his eight Five Guys Burgers and Fries franchise restaurants in North Carolina were faring under the Affordable Care Act, known as Obamacare. Five hours later, the backlash was so intense he had to wonder if that 15-minute speech might kill his company. In fact, Mr. Ruffer is the most recent victim in a troubling pattern of seemingly orchestrated campaigns to silence small business owners who speak out about President Obama’s agenda.

WASHINGTON - The number of Americans filing new claims for unemployment benefits climbed last week at the fastest pace in six months, a worrisome sign for the economy which has been hit by government austerity. Initial claims for state unemployment benefits jumped by 32,000 to a seasonally adjusted 360,000, the Labor Department said on Thursday. That was the biggest jump since November and confounded analysts´ expectations for a more modest increase. Claims for the prior week were revised to show 5,000 more applications received than previously reported. A Labor Department analyst said no states had estimated their data

WASHINGTON — Faced with a trio of controversies, President Barack Obama is trying to halt a perception spreading among both White House opponents and allies that he has been passive and disengaged as unexpected developments consume his second term. The new strategy, underscored in a flurry of new White House actions, signals an Obama team anxious to regain control amid controversies that have emboldened Republicans and threatened to plunge the president´s second term into a steady stream of congressional investigations. On Wednesday, Obama released a trove of documents related to the Benghazi attacks amid revived pressure from Republicans.

What did President Obama do on the evening of 9/11/12 when our men were under attack in Benghazi? The invaluable Andrew McCarthy reminds us that Obama and Secretary Clinton had a 10:00 p.m. phone call of which many (including, I think, Chris Wallace) have lost sight. This morning when Wallace asked Obama aide Dan Pfeiffer what Obama was up to that evening, Pfeiffer declared the line of inquiry “offensive.” Translation: Obama and his minions would prefer to “move on” and are warning the likes of FNC off:(Snip for video)The Weekly Standard’s Daniel Halper has posted the rush transcript

WASHINGTON - There were new questions Saturday night concerning if anyone in the White House was aware of the IRS´ targeting of conservative groups. In the wake of one of the worst abuses of government power in recent history, many are rushing to frame the Internal Revenue Service scandal as simply an attack on conservative activists. That view risks creating a partisan political football and misses a fundamentally scarier abuse that exceeds the scandals of Watergate or any other prior government abuse. The IRS has admitted that since May 2010 it targeted grassroots-conservative organizations that had applied for tax-exempt status, unfairly subjecting them to rigorous scrutiny due to their political leanings. Such groups were told they were required to comply with IRS requests,

Treasury Secretary Jack Lew on Friday urged congressional leaders to raise the debt limit and insisted that the White House is not going to negotiate over the increase because lawmakers have "no choice." "We will not negotiate over the debt limit," Lew wrote. "The creditworthiness of the United States is non-negotiable. The question of whether the country must pay obligations it has already incurred is not open to debate." Lew said that while President Obama is willing to discuss plans to reduce the nation´s deficit with Congress, those talks must be kept separate from any effort to raise the nation´s debt cap.

The Internal Revenue Service´s watchdog told top Treasury officials around June 2012 he was investigating allegations the tax agency had targeted conservative groups, for the first time indicating that Obama administration officials were aware of the explosive matter in the midst of the president´s re-election campaign. The disclosure to the Treasury general counsel and the deputy secretary was a cursory one, according to J. Russell George, the Treasury inspector general for tax administration.
