| Senate Democrats will press ahead with President Obama´s nomination of Chuck Hagel to be the next defense secretary, despite protestations from several Republicans that they don´t yet have enough information to make a decision. Sen. Carl Levin, Michigan Democrat and Armed Services Committee chairman, said Monday morning that he will schedule a committee vote for Tuesday afternoon — the precursor to holding a floor vote in the full Senate. Mr. Hagel, himself a former Republican senator, has drawn stern opposition from Senate Republicans who argue that he took dangerous stances in the past on Iran and Israel

You took a stand by saying you would block a vote if you didn´t get an answer. You got politely told you aren´t going to get an answer. Block the nomination or submit you resignation. You are worthless is you won´t back your principled stances.

Senate pubbies: JUST SAY NO.
It is disconcerting to see all the bad things come out when looking at the backgrounds of liberals/dhims and they are approved for a position. When vetting a republican, the first untoward thing that comes up is enough to torpedo the nomination, no matter what it is. I´m so sick of the one sidedness, even when the pubbies are in the majority. Which tells me, the pubbies, for the most part, are spineless and easily pushed over.

#4, Hagel is a Republican, though you may be forgiven for missing that tree in the forest of Miss Lindsay Graham´s ´hissy fit´ kabuki theater. Prior to the annexation of the GOP by the Nation Building By Bayonet Boys, the Republican Party´s dominate position in the issue of foreign affairs was to speak softly and carry a big stick.

@#5: Hagel is a republican the same as Schwarzenegger, Crist, Ray LaHood and Lincoln Chafee are republicans.
They should all have a B after their name for Backstabber.

I tend to agree with #3,5. Democrats have the votes. The Under Secretary, Ashton Carter, will do most of the daily management. Hagel´s more a figure head. There are more important battles to fight.

No #7, there aren´t. EVERY battle is important at this point. Each time we surrender and just choke down the best we can get instead of insisting on holding the line, we diminish the sacrifices our Founders made. So no, I won´t quietly accept a terrible choice like Hagel, not when our brave fighting men and women deserve the best person in that position.

As I noted earlier today, the government’s treatment of Fox News reporter James Rosen betrayed the Obama administration’s unhinged obsession with targeting journalists. But as troubling as that is, the problem goes deeper than the attempt by the Department of Justice to eviscerate the First Amendment. The news that one of the reporters who had been aggressively covering the Benghazi scandal had her computer tampered with should alarm more than just her fellow scribes. So, too, should the increasingly shrill attacks from the president’s cheering section on other journalists who have been following the stories about government misconduct.

Rhode Island Democratic Sen. Sheldon Whitehouse has apologized for remarks Monday in which he linked Oklahoma "cyclones" to climate change while berating Republicans for their stance on the issue -- around the time a massive tornado killed dozens in that state. A Whitehouse spokesman said Tuesday the politically charged remarks were pre-written as part of the senator’s weekly Senate floor speech on climate change. “Tragically and unbeknownst to the senator at the time, a series of tornadoes were hitting Oklahoma at the same moment he gave his remarks,” the spokesman said.

WASHINGTON – The Internal Revenue Serviced scandal today spread further within the White House and closer to President Obama. White House spokesman Jay Carney today disclosed that Obama’s chief of staff, Dennis McDonough, and other top White House officials had advance warning that the IRS was targeting conservative groups. But he insisted McDonough and the other White House officials purposely kept Obama out of the loop.McDonough “rightly chose not to take action” to inform Obama, Carney told reporters at the daily White House briefing.

The wheels came off the Obama administration yesterday. We learned of a startling assault on freedom of the press by the Department of Justice, following the revelation last week of the unprecedented information-gathering foray by that department against The Associated Press. Then, a few minutes later, the Justice Department’s inspector general released a report declaring that the US attorney in Arizona used the leak of a confidential memo to try to discredit a whistleblower in the notorious “gun-walking” scandal known as Fast and Furious (which got two federal agents killed). The leak was called “egregious.”

WASHINGTON – A top IRS official in the division that reviews nonprofit groups will invoke the Fifth Amendment and refuse to answer questions before a House committee investigating the agency’s improper screening of conservative nonprofit groups. Lois Lerner, the head of the exempt organizations division of the IRS, won’t answer questions about what she knew about the improper screening – or why she didn’t reveal it to Congress, according to a letter from her defense lawyer, William W. Taylor 3rd. Lerner was scheduled to appear before the House Oversight committee Wednesday.

Stuart Varney said this morning on "Varney & Co." that one of his producers was given a questionnaire with some surprisingly intrusive questions on it when he switched doctors. One of the questions was whether he/she was concerned about unsecured weapons in the home. Another asked whether he/she was "in a relationship in which you have been physically hurt or are you afraid of your partner?"
