| More than 4,000 people spent Sunday stranded on a cruise ship after a fire in the engine room, according to Carnival. The Carnival Triumph, which left Galveston Thursday, is without propulsion and running on emergency generator power about 150 miles off the coast of the Yucatan Peninsula. The U.S. Coast Guard was notified and a tug boat has been dispatched to the ship, according to a company statement. The company reports that the ship´s automatic fire extinguishing systems activated and only the aft engine room was damaged.

Nothing to worry about! They are in no danger! Plenty of food and an extra at sea day..enjoy the pool and beautiful weather. Free cruise..wahoo.

Glad no one was hurt. As the old joke goes, First Prize was a Carnival cruise. Second Prize was two Carnival cruises.

Hmmm...what fun! Being stranded on a Carnival* ship off the coast of Mexico where they are sitting ducks for any cartel (or other) mischief. Yeah, that´s the ticket.
* Owners of the Costa Concordia, as well as the ship that reportedly passed by stranded fishermen off the Galapagos, as well as the ship whose shore excursion was robbed at gunpoint in Mexico. All in the last year.

#4. They are 150 miles off the Yucatan.
That region is perfectly safe, Mexico does have patrol boats, and I bet our Coast Guard is there too.

The emergency operating room where doctors tried to save President Kennedy´s life after he was shot has been broken into pieces and covertly stored in crates for years, guarded as if it were a state secret. As the 50th anniversary in November of the President´s assassination nears, an investigative team from local Dallas station WFAA went digging for the exact location of the broken tiles and medical equipment used on that fateful day. They found that the room was formally destroyed in 1972 when Parkland Hospital was going through an expansion and Trauma Room 1 had to be demolished.

Every Memorial Day, when I run into the grocery store to pick up those last minute items for the three day weekend’s picnic, I’m met with members of the Veterans of Foreign Wars (VFW) selling their poppies. We cherish, too, the poppy red/ that grows on fields where valor led; It seems to signal to the skies/that blood of heroes never dies-- “We Shall Keep the Faith” by Moina Michael -I remember as a kid that it was very common to see paper poppies being sold around Memorial Day. You could even go to the post office and purchase one

A 17-year-old boy and 22-year-old man were killed within hours of each other in separate West Side attacks Friday night, and a 29-year-old man was killed on the South Side, officials said. The youngest of the three killed was with an 18-year-old friend; both were shot about 11:30 p.m. in the 400 block of North Central Avenue in the Austin neighborhood. GUJRAT, Pakistan- At least 17 children were killed and 10 others injured when a gas cylinder on a school van exploded Saturday in northeastern Pakistan, officials said. The van, carrying 20 to 25 children, caught fire after the cylinder exploded, Dawn News reported. The driver survived but a teacher was reportedly killed, the BBC reported. The children, ages 5 to 15, were just a few miles from their school in Gujrat when the compressed natural gas canister exploded.

Conservative radio host Mark Levin is very skeptical of the idea that President Obama had absolutely no idea about the IRS tea party targeting before the story broke in the news mere weeks ago. Levin declared adamantly that it is a “flat-out, bald-faced lie” that Obama didn’t know beforehand, citing prior reports by a few conservative news outlets picking up on the news well before the 2012 presidential election. Levin said, “I don’t believe for two seconds that Obama wasn’t aware of this.”
