Members invite victims of
gun violence to Obama address

USA Today, by Jackie Kucinich

More than 20 survivors of gun violence and their family members will be in the House chamber on Tuesday as President Obama gives the first State of the Union Address of his second term. The effort, organized in part by Mayors Against Illegal Guns and congressional advocates of stricter gun laws, may be the first coordinated attempt to pack the gallery with a group of people pushing for one issue, according to House historians and longtime congressional observers. Members who say they are providing tickets to gun violence victims include Minority Leader Nancy Pelosi, D-Calif, Democratic Reps. Jim Langevin

Comments:
They are turning the SOTU into nothing more than an Obama pep rally. Will there be banners reading ´´Never Waste a Crisis´´?

How about citizens who ARE NOT VICTIMS because they or someone else had a gun.

Maybe the victims of illegal immigrant crime should have some representation there as well, or maybe those who have lost their health insurance and/or their jobs courtesy of ZeroCare.

There is only "people violence", not "gun violence". A gun is an inert device which can be used by a human being for good (e.g. defending one´s life against an evil human being) or for evil (an evil human being attacking another human being who did not initiate violence).

Gee...they could stage a rally for ´victims of alcohol related ___________´ - if only DC were a tad larger. Say, Georgia-sized. Or just lock ´em in and pour the ´contents´ of the last six months worth of abortion clinic product thru the roof vents...

And of course whatever the occasion, the primary accomplishment will be more Obama-worship.

These guys are quickly reaching Syrup of Ipecac quality.

Kinda weird that the Thuggas-in-Charge are not inviting the survivors and victims of 20 plus shootings in the Chicago-hood every single weekend. After all, aren´t those in Chicago the BO and Holder´s "people" in their backyard? All black victims.

Yet the politicians parade around feigned condolences to a community of lily-white people at their funeral services and then invite them to the White House?

Oh yea. That is right...black politicians do not have to pander or cater to the black people because their "vote is all locked up." Just throw them a bone and have MO on one of her shopping trips and swing by some little black girl´s funeral to get a photo op wearing her latest upholstery outfit.

Do you believe people buy this cr@ap?

Disgusting, I won´t watch his made for TV show for low information voters. Soon the democrats will be selling advertising time so the networks can show previews of their violent shows coming up during the speech.

Nope - - no way to squeeze all of them in.

Keep in mind Jackie Kucinich is the daughter of Dennis The Menace Kucinich, the worthless little Left-Wing zealot and Federal Teat-Sucking Parasite, who voted FOR Obama care after saying he would not, only after the Obamboozler gave the silly buffoon an airplane ride and an ice-cream cone for his vote! It´s criminal violence and mental illness violence.

That´s like saying the people killed in the 9/11 attack were killed by airplane violence.

Maybe if the folks who purport themselves as "Mayors Against Illegal Guns," which I assume are Mayors of major cities, would direct their police departments to:

1. Enforce current laws and
2. Get the thugs, gangs, and other miscreants with illegal guns off the street and
3. Pressure the local prosecutors and judges to hand out maximum penalties (including time at the iron bar hotel) to the folks above.

But I guess "Mayors Against Illegal Guns" figure it´s sure a lot easier to make it tougher for law-abiding citizens and hey, who´s got time to enforce laws. Time´s gotta be spent being sure union goons are paid off, illegals are registered to vote (more than once is even better), and, oh yeah, we gotta be over at Beyonce and Jay-Z´s place for a fundraiser later tonight.

Why don´t Republicans publicly rally round the woman who shot the thug coming after her and her children in their home? How about the hero veteran sitting in his rocket and saved his life and property from a burglar with a gun? The 76 year old lady cashier who pulled out a gun from under the counter and the ARMED thief ran in terror? These true stories, real people saving lives, and the Republicans can´t honor them OR use the incidents to make our case? FRUSTRATING!!!! BTW, look how effective it would be to use these stories AND the people in a dynamic post-address response!

Americans in a new ABC News/Washington Post poll sharply reject special scrutiny of conservative groups by the Internal Revenue Service, suspect an administration cover-up of the Benghazi incident and express substantial distrust of the federal government more generally. (Snip) Longer-term impacts of contentious current issues remain to be seen, but there´s potential for significant damage to the administration. Americans by a vast 74-20 percent see the IRS´ behavior as inappropriate, with most feeling that way strongly - and 56 percent see it as a deliberate attempt to harass conservative organizations, not a mere administrative error.

A massive tornado ripped through Moore, Okla., Monday afternoon, leveling a huge swath of a residential area in the suburb of Oklahoma City. Video footage from KFOR-TV showed houses, businesses and at least two schools completely demolished, with cars strewn about. Police and emergency crews have begun to respond, but debris has clogged roadways. There is no tally yet on injuries or deaths, but news anchors said significant casualties are expected. At least one large fire has broken out amid the rubble. The twister is already being compared to the May 3, 1999 storm that ripped through Moore

LOS ANGELES - More poor people live in the nation´s suburbs than in urban cities because of affordable housing, service-sector jobs and the increased use of housing vouchers, according to a study released Monday. The number of those in poverty living in suburbs jumped 67 percent between 2000 and 2011, a much larger increase than in cities, researchers for the Brookings Institution said. Suburbs, however, still have a smaller percentage of the poor than cities do. The report notes that poor people were pulled to the suburbs by more affordable homes and followed jobs that were often low paying.

LOS ANGELES -- flocking to Southern California beaches are used to feeding the meter or paying a parking attendant. Not so along the less developed north coast where it´s customary to ditch cars on the shoulder of Highway 1 to surf, swim or picnic. That sandy line that long defined the state´s disparate beach culture may soon fade. In search of new revenue, the state parks system is eyeing parking fees for parts of the Northern California shoreline where none existed or considering hiking rates to visit popular beaches south of Los Angeles during peak periods.

CAIRO — The pale, young Christian woman sat handcuffed in the courtroom, accused of insulting Islam while teaching history of religions to fourth-graders. A team of Islamist lawyers with long beards sang in unison, "All except the Prophet Muhammad." (Snip) Blasphemy charges were not uncommon in Egypt under the now-ousted autocrat Hosni Mubarak´s regime, but there has been a surge in such cases in recent months, according to rights activists. The trend is widely seen as a reflection of the growing power and confidence of Islamists, particularly the ultraconservative Salafis. "Salafis are the engineers of these stories,"

The Washington Post on Monday reported that Obama’s Department of Justice was investigating journalists before they started wiretapping the Associated Press – for one, Fox News correspondent James Rosen in 2010. Their headline wasn´t "Obama Team Also Spied on Fox News." Fox wasn´t in the headline, on A-1 or on A-12, where the story continued. Newly obtained court documents “reveal how deeply investigators explored the private communications of a working journalist — and raise the question of how often journalists have been investigated as closely as Rosen was in 2010.” Reporter Ann Marimow began:

A senior adviser to President Obama mounted a combative defense of the administration on Sunday, saying the controversies enveloping the White House were the result of Republican lawmakers’ trying to “drag Washington into a swamp of partisan fishing expeditions, trumped-up hearings and false allegations.”The remarks came from Dan Pfeiffer, a member of the president’s inner circle, as he appeared on all five major Sunday morning talk shows in an effort to move the administration past what commentators have described as a “hell week” of controversy and missteps.
