| FORT WORTH, Texas- A Texas teen got a big check at the annual junior livestock sale, earning $20,895 for his steer, the 278th animal shown of 283 at the sale, officials said. Members of the Stock Show Syndicate, a group of Fort Worth-area business professionals that raises millions of dollars for the annual Sale of Champions, bought the steer from 14-year-old Wyatt Blaylock, after they learned his father died of brain cancer last year, the Fort Worth Star-Telegram reported Saturday. "I don´t know what to say," said Blaylock, from Adkins, a small town south of San Antonio.

That´s how they roll in the Lone Star State. I lived there ten years and miss every day apart. Friendly, caring, conservative. In my neighborhood here in Michigan i wave to cars that drive past as I walk my dog. People ask me why I do that and I explain that in Texas, it would be bad manners not to wave. No surprise that they are helping this kid out. Think he´ll be an Aggie-lol.

I always enjoy seeing those kids get big bucks for their animals. And there are always tears because they know their animal is headed for a dinner table.
#1 was teasing. Steers don´t go to stud, but sometimes they are just put out to a nice, restful pasture.

WASHINGTON — The Army announced Tuesday that it has suspended the top general at Fort Jackson in South Carolina over allegations of assault and adultery, the latest in a string of sex scandals to rock the military. It was not clear whom Brig. Gen. Bryan Roberts struck or with whom he was involved. Fort Jackson conducts basic training for 60% of the Army´s incoming women recruits. (Snip) According to his Army biography, Roberts is a 29-year veteran. Before assuming command in April 2012, he served in Iraq as head of a unit training Iraqi soldiers.

Wendy Greuel called Eric Garcetti early Wednesday morning to concede the mayoral election, a Greuel campaign source told the Times, ending a two-year campaign to determine Mayor Antonio Villaraigosa´s successor and the new political leader of Los Angeles. Garcetti will be the first elected Jewish mayor of the city. At 42, he will also be the youngest in more than a century. He is scheduled to take office July 1. Federal investigators apparently accessed records of calls to and from a phone number at Fox News Channel in their leak investigation of a former State Department contractor, according to a court document. White House spokesman Jay Carney today disclosed that Obama’s chief of staff, Dennis McDonough, and other top White House officials had advance warning that the IRS was targeting conservative groups. The wheels came off the Obama administration yesterday. We learned of a startling assault on freedom of the press by the Department of Justice, following the revelation last week of the unprecedented information-gathering foray by that department against The Associated Press. Then, a few minutes later, the Justice Department’s inspector general released a report declaring that the US attorney in Arizona used the leak of a confidential memo to try to discredit a whistleblower in the notorious “gun-walking” scandal known as Fast and Furious (which got two federal agents killed). The leak was called “egregious.”

WASHINGTON – A top IRS official in the division that reviews nonprofit groups will invoke the Fifth Amendment and refuse to answer questions before a House committee investigating the agency’s improper screening of conservative nonprofit groups. Lois Lerner, the head of the exempt organizations division of the IRS, won’t answer questions about what she knew about the improper screening – or why she didn’t reveal it to Congress, according to a letter from her defense lawyer, William W. Taylor 3rd. Lerner was scheduled to appear before the House Oversight committee Wednesday.

Stuart Varney said this morning on "Varney & Co." that one of his producers was given a questionnaire with some surprisingly intrusive questions on it when he switched doctors. One of the questions was whether he/she was concerned about unsecured weapons in the home. Another asked whether he/she was "in a relationship in which you have been physically hurt or are you afraid of your partner?"
