Potential showdown on immigration
reform likely to be on how safe
is Southwest border, who decides

The effort in Washington to pass immigration reform is headed for a potential showdown over border security – with the Senate and White House plans putting different emphasis on the issue, and Democrats and Republicans appearing to disagree over the extent of the problem. The likely conflict was highlighted last week when Homeland Security Secretary Janet Napolitano declared U.S. borders secure and said Republicans have a flawed argument about border security needing to precede comprehensive immigration reform. "I believe the border is secure,” Napolitano said Monday in San Diego, during a three-day swing of the Southwest border.

Comments:
ICE´s instructions are to arrest and release, of course.

You wouldn´t need border security if our internal policies were correct beginning with the denial of welfare for anyone who´s snuck in this country.Make illegal immigration a felony disqualifying people from getting student loans. In other words cut off their money supply and they´ll go back home on their own.

The birth rite amendment was to assure recently freed slaves had citizenship rights, nothing to do with anchor baby tourists dropping in.

The border is useless if you have by policy a ´sanctuary county´ where the law is ignored. That´s why yet another ´amnesty program´ is useless. It will be just like 1986 all over again.

You need only see the signs warning US citizens to stay out of an area near the border because it is unsafe to realize that the border is not safe in any way.

If the border is secure, why do we have all these illegals in this country? Whey are they caught everyday driving down the interstate? Why is there no English at any construction site in America? Why do we have to publish everything in mulitple languages now, English usually being second?

The secure border is worthless as Obama ignores laws and will just declare it secure.

We need to make illegal immigrants felons and amend the constitution to end anchor babies.

I think Napolitano uses "secure" much as Bill Clinton used "is". Does she mean secure, as in tight and impenetrable? Secure, as in border crossings pose no threat? I would have more faith in her meaning if the cartels weren´t flowing in and out, while they plant crops in our national parks and kidnap and threaten US citizens in our own border towns.

Reply 11 - Posted by: bighambone, 2/10/2013 1:50:06 PM     (No. 9168862)

Boloney, if the borderline was secure at least half the illegal alien population would not be here now. To the other half of the illegal alien population, especially most of the women and children, borderline security was always irrelevant, as they came into the USA with a either some sort of temporary visa, or border crossing card, issued to them by the US Dept. of State in their home countries. After entering the USA they simply stayed and have been using some sort of bogus or fraudulent US identification papers to get hired to American jobs. Some have assumed the identity of or are posing as US citizens. Since Obama was elected and decided to no longer enforce the immigration laws, 11 to 20 million illegal aliens have been living here without fear of ever being deported.

The real showdown will depend on if the wimpy Republicans have decided to surrender this issue to the liberal Democrats, by going along with a liberal Democrat "path to citizenship" amnesty for just about all the illegal aliens here now, that will essentially hand the Democrats 10 million or so new voters in the next few years. If that happens that Republican share of the so-called Hispanic vote may jump up from 27% to 32% or so, but that will not matter, because with their millions of new voters the Democrats will be able to change the political balance in enough states to ensure that the wimpy Republicans will have committed long-term political suicide, no longer ever again to win national elections. As Joe Biden would say, this is a big f****** deal.

When property owners and BP agents are murdered by ILLEGALS and when the Federal Government has placed signs warning tourists to stay out of America´s own National Parks along the border, ...or ANYPLACE else, thepotential of danger to everyone has already been decided!!! Now is the time to return safety to American citizens, their personal property and to public lands, National Parks which belong to U.S.A. citizens EQUALLY! ...And clean up the mess left strewn behind by ILLEGALS throughout formerly pristine rural lands.

We need a comprehensive immigration policy, and we already have one.

Simply enforce--fully and to the letter of the law--the Immigration and Nationality Act of 1965 (Hart-Celler Act, INS, Act of 1965, Pub.L. 89–236), for at least six months.

Revisit the Fourteenth Amendment, especially the clause "under the jurisdiction of" which was misinterpreted in a footnote to an unrelated case, by a Supreme Court Justice writing the dissent to a ruling, thereby "creating" birthright citizenship.

Severely restrict our lenient "sanctuary" system to people who are actually persecuted in their home country, not including economic migrants.

Most importantly, any criminal alien invader should never "profit" from breaking the spirit of the law by trespassing into this country, if they receive any permanent status, they should be forever forbidden to apply or receive government benefits or bring additional family members, who have not qualified on their own for immigration status.

Considering existing Federal Immigration Law, shouldn´t everyone attending tonight´s State of the Union speech who brings along as guests ILLEGAL aliens be arrested for trafficing? ...It is illegal ya know.

The Democrats´ lost decade?

Democrats fell far short of winning the House in 2012, an otherwise banner year for the party, and many are privately glum about taking back the chamber in 2014. But that grim immediate outlook raises a far more troubling longer-term prospect for Democrats: that the newly drawn congressional lines have tilted the electoral playing field so decisively in the GOP’s favor that the party could control the House through 2020. That this, in other words, could be the Democrats’ Lost Decade. Three of the past four elections have produced partisan upheaval, so political forecasting must be approached with caution.

Men´s Wearhouse no longer likes the way George Zimmer looks. Zimmer, the founder, chairman and the public face of the discount apparel chain, has been terminated by the company, according to a brief statement from the company. Men´s Wearhouse gave no reason for Zimmer´s departure -- which surfaced on Wednesday, just hours before the company postponed its annual shareholders meeting. A company spokesman declined comment but said Zimmer´s departure would not affect operations.

Obama to Charlie Rose, yesterday: I’ve stood up a privacy and civil liberties oversight board made up of independent citizens, including some fierce civil libertarians. I’ll be meeting with them and what I want to do is to set up and structure a national conversation not only about these two programs but also about the general problem of these big data sets because this is not going to be restricted to government entities. The board Obama is referring to was created in 2004. Nominations and confirmation delays prevented the board from being particularly effective,

Obama never fails to enlist children in his secularist crusades, whether at home or abroad. Last week he trotted out two nine-year-old girls to introduce him at a White House event celebrating “LGBT Pride Month.” “We could not be prouder of Zea and Luna for the introduction,” he said. “Zea and Luna are here with their moms, and also I think with Grandma and Grandpa — correct? And so feel free to congratulate them afterwards for their outstanding introduction.” Zea and Luna proved useful to Obama not only as props for LGBT rights but also as mouthpieces for his gun-control agenda:

With dozens of Democratic lawmakers struggling to live on a food stamp budget to protest GOP cuts to the Supplemental Nutrition Assistance Program, a Republican staffer says he is living on a SNAP budget without problems. Texas Republican Rep. Steve Stockman’s communications director and agriculture policy advisor, Donny Ferguson, says he has been able to eat well on $27.58 for a week, less than the $31.50 House Democrats have limited themselves to for their “SNAP Challenge.” “I wanted to personally experience the effects of the proposed cuts to food stamps. I didn’t plan ahead or buy strategically,

The ongoing saga of Edward Snowden has at least been moving in the right direction for President Obama. Snowden may once have tried to position himself as a whistleblower, but he has since devolved into ingratiating himself with authoritarian regimes by plying them with American national security secrets. While Pete is correct that the NSA story seems to be hurting voters’ opinion of Obama’s trustworthiness, Americans are by now realizing that they would be foolish to go the other extreme and place that trust in Snowden. It is also (understandably) distracting the public’s attention from the scandals that preceded it,

In two contexts the Obama administration has revealed its complete confusion about high-stakes negotiations and the interrelation of soft and hard power. In Syria, after dragging his feet for two years, trying to fudge over his own “red line” and coming up with a half-hearted move to give small arms to the rebels, President Obama discovers that he can’t budge Russia, which has backed Bashar al-Assad to the hilt. The Post reports that at the Group of 8 summit: Obama has demanded that Assad relinquish power as part of any negotiated peace settlement, a condition Putin rejects.

A group of whistleblowers, including a number of aviation experts, have come forward in a new documentary to claim that the official explanation for the crash of TWA Flight 800 was wrong and a gas tank explosion did not bring down the flight off the coast of Long Island 17 years ago. However, the six whistleblowers, all part of the original investigation team, stopped short of saying the plane was shot down. Flight 800, a Boeing 747, had just taken off from JFK airport with 230 people aboard on July 17, 1996 enroute to Paris when it exploded

An attorney whose firm represents two Benghazi whistleblowers said Gen. Martin Dempsey, chairman of the Joint Chiefs of Staff, lied to the Senate when he said there was never a “stand down” order during the Benghazi attack on Sept. 11, 2012. “What was fascinating is that he explained his lie to them,” Joe DiGenova, an attorney representing one of the whistleblowers, told CNSNews.com. “He actually said they were sent to Tripoli. They were needed in Benghazi,” said DiGenova, a former U.S. attorney, now with the Washington firm of DiGenova & Toensing.

Amid a steady rise of backlash, Edward Snowden, the 29-year-old former National Security Agency contractor who was the source of a spring of leaks about the agency´s surveillance methods, conducted a live chat on The Guardian´s website Monday morning. Judging from some of the pointed questions he´s been asked and the reaction to newly leaked revelations over the past few days, it´s clear that much of the sympathy and support Snowden had built up for his early exposures is eroding. Many Americans supported his decision to leak information about a pair of National Security Agency surveillance programs, which, he detailed, gathered information

Charlie Rose last night asked President Obama his new Syria policy. The president first objected to it being called a new policy. "I´m not sure you can characterize this as a new policy. This is consistent with the policy that I´ve had throughout," he said. Obama then explained the goal is regional stability, and especially in Syria. "Really, what we´re trying to do is take sides against extremists of all sorts and in favor of people who are in favor of moderation, tolerance, representative government, and over the long-term, stability and prosperity for the people of Syria," said Obama.

Marco Rubio. Paul Ryan. The IRS. Illegal immigration. And fraud to the tune of billions.. Now there’s a combustible mix. Let’s start with the IRS, illegal immigration and fraud. We’ll come back in a minute to Senator Rubio and Congressman Ryan. For those who came in late, a year before the IRS scandals burst onto the scene in early May of 2013, an alert investigative reporter for WTHR-Indianapolis (Channel 13), Bob Segall by name, produced a stunning piece of journalism. Segall’s video report is found here and we will quote from his story for the basics.

The Obamas never miss an opportunity to mingle with the stars and during a two-day trip in Dublin, who better to have lunch with than iconic Irish rocker and philanthropist Bono? First Lady Michelle along with daughters Malia, 14, and Sasha, 11, started Tuesday with an hour-long visit to picturesque Glendalough in the Wicklow Mountains--but the two girls looked like they would have rather slept in at their luxury hotel. Glendalough is famous for its Medieval monastic settlement founded in the 6th century by St Kevin, the hermit priest.
