| Sen. Mark Begich, a Democrat in Republican-leaning Alaska, is sure to be targeted by Republicans in 2014, his seat a “must” pickup if the GOP hopes to retake control of Congress’ upper chamber. But Begich is showing surprising strength and popularity, according to a new survey of the 49th State by Public Policy Polling. He has a 49 percent job approval rating, with only 39 percent disapproving of the job he’s doing. And Begich leads a bevy of likely Republican challengers. He has a big, big lead — 54-38 percent —

Comments: Calling Karl Rove. Hopefully he can find a candidate who can hold on to that seat. I wasn´t aware Palin had any interest in it. Does she? The comments after the article are brutal.

If so, then the people of Alaska need to have their heads examined. But maybe that was made clear when they elected Murkowski.

Alaska is a pork obsessed state. They enjoyed Stevens bacon for years and years. I think they just got over $200 million in the sandy bill, that probably has a lot to do with Begich´s popularity.Miller was probably anti-pork and why the left rallied around Murkowski.
I´m pretty sure alaska gets more per capita federal money than any other state, the same with Hawaii.

#4, I think part of it had to do with the fact that he used state computers to transact personal business. Now that´s not so bad, but his response to the accusation was terrible: He said that he wasn´t going to say what he´d used the computers for, and that he wasn´t going to talk about it. Probably most people assumed the worst, if incorrectly. And let´s face it--the Yasir Arafat beard didn´t help.
#5, Alaska does indeed get more federal money than it pays in taxes. It has for many, many years.

No, the people of Alaska used to love her, but the massive smear campaign and lies from the left that are still going on 5 years later affected people´s perceptions of her. Even this rag, the "post-intelligence", lied here and said she "quit to make money". NO, she didn´t "quit" her job as Governor and she certainly didn´t do it to make money! She was forced to make a decision to resign for the good of Alaska because of thousands of frivolous lawsuits and inquiries that were tying up all the resources and making it impossible for any state business to get done. She knew she couldn´t be effective as long as she was a target for the left and so she believed her Lieutenant Governor could better carry on her plans and turned it over to him. I hate lying leftists and their evil ways.

PPP is a Democrat polling outfit from North Carolina and the Seattle PI is an online newspaper that used to be a mainstream daily broadsheet until they went online only in order to avoid going belly up. The whole article should be taken with about a barrel of sodium chloride and treated as left-wing propaganda.
Begich was one of those accidents of history that got elected because Ted Stevens was in the middle of a federal corruption prosecution during the 2008 election campaign.
I think New Mexico might be the federal pork queen among the states. NM brings in about 2.20 federal dollars for every dollar it sends to DC.

The well-named Post-Intelligence (i.e., after intelligence has gone) uses a far left polling outfit, PPP, to offer us this sophomoric headline: Begich Popular, Palin Unpopular (Ugh Ugh).
Cub reporter Connelly continues his lame, biased reporting in the excerpted paragraph below.
"He has a big, big lead — 54-38 percent — over former Gov. and 2008 Republican vice presidential nominee Sarah Palin. Palin was recently jettisoned from her pundit’s position by the Fox News Channel. She quit as governor in mid-term to make money."
Begich has "a big, big lead;" "Palin was...jettisoned from her pundit´s position;" and the new and startling ´fact´ that "she quit as governor in mid-term to make money." I´ll bet his copy went over big in the PI (see para one here) ´newsroom.´
A few more months of Obama, the Democrats, and the trampling on our Constitution, and Sarah could win an Alaskan senatorial seat by a landslide...despite what the PPP poll would have us believe.

#7 I suspect if there was an anti-Palin article in a school newsletter in some tiny town in West Virginia certain posters would spend all day finding it and then rub their hands with glee as they post it. Getting over it is impossible for some people, it´s called Palin "Derangement" Syndrome for a reason.
If only such excessive zeal was put into pulling down this corrupt administration! It never ceases to amaze me how people put such energy into bringing down someone who´s supposedly in their own party, and yet expect that their favorite be supported by all. It´s called hypocrisy. Unfortunately, the Dems don´t have a monopoly on it.
I guess they´ll never stop, it´ll be obscure articles about biased polls about races Palin´s not even entering for the next God-knows-how-many years. Some people really need to get a life.

There was as much suspected funny business in Murkowski´s write in vote as there seems to be in some of the precincts that voted over 100% for Obama!
....And, Begich left Anchorage in sorry financial shape when he finished his time as mayor. The unions came out fine though.... Many doubt Begich would have even gotten close to beating Senator Stevens if Stevens hadn´t been accused of so much wrong-doing,by the Dems, that he was cleared of AFTER the election.

# 9 may be the only poster who actually read the article. The article discusses Republicans trying to get the Senate seat currently held by Begich. This seat is a Republican must win and it´s going to be a tough slog, because Begich is not a conventional Democrat and holds views popular with Alaskans. The article analyzes all the potential Republicans who might challenge Begich and how they poll. Their pluses and minuses. Palin is now free to run for the Senate from Alaska , so her name was included in the poll. The poll breakdown was 21 % Democrat , 32 % Republican and 46 % Indy .

When posters don´t read the articles, mayhem results and the OPs get smeared.
Lucianne is not supposed to be an echo chamber so there will be posts from many sources known to lean left. Most either read them and consider the source or move on. Quietly. A few feel a need to post a nasty aimed at the poster. Not fair.
The posting of an article should not have to include a disclaimer that it does not necessarily represent the views of the poster, nor should those views be assumed. We all know what the word ASSUME can represent.
To put it more simply, if you don´t like what´s posted, how about posting something you do like? The complainers are noticeably deficient in the posting department.

Obama has given the total US SS database to his campaign... and now they pre-vote for everyone. Over the next 18 mo´s, they need to create the illusion that red states are becoming blue, otherwise we´ll be shocked when they win it all.
Pre-voting for Americans caused many swing districts to record over 100% voter participation. Holder is trying to pass a mandate that all Americans are automatically registered to vote, so they are less likely to screw up again.

The Democratic candidates for mayor in New York are campaigning to win the support of the teachers union. They threaten to return the city to the horrors of the David Dinkins era. Back at the turn of the 1990s, New York City was a mess. Crime was rampant. The schools were dreadful. Children in foster care were brutalized because–as the head of the Child Welfare Agency said–”oversight is racist.” The mayor was an incompetent. And, above all, the city was run for the benefit of its employees rather than its citizens. What followed was 20 years of governance

After years of false starts, Washington finally appears to be on the path to rewriting the nation’s immigration laws. The Senate Gang of Eight bill is holding its own in committee and is expected to hit the Senate floor in June. And in the House this week, members of a bipartisan group agreed “in principle” on a big bill to be revealed in June. But in this case, looks are deceiving. There are still major hurdles before immigration reform can reach President Barack Obama’s desk. The biggest one is the GOP-controlled House. Right now, the Senate bill has no chance

CINCINNATI — The fog of scandal hangs over a boxy, modernist, 10-story building that looks like a monument to paperwork. Shrubs and chain smokers flank its front entrance here on Main Street, in the heart of downtown. Every day, 2,000 employees go to work at various federal agencies in this John F. Kennedy-era structure, whose chief tenant is the Internal Revenue Service — which is having just about the worst week an agency can have. Up on the fourth floor — with its gray linoleum, low ceilings and fluorescent lights, file carts heaped with manila envelopes, its keypad-coded doors labeled 4-022

Now the site has posted details of the ensuing 44-month-long investigation, offering a timely glimpse into the black box of a Department of Justice leak prosecution. And The Smoking Gun got lucky. Over the course of the FBI´s hunt, code-named "Stubborn Ways," 43 different people were interviewed, in locations stretching from New Mexico to Boston to Saudi Arabia. A number of people have sought to explain the IRS targeting of Tea Party, patriot, and 9/12 group applications -- as well as those from other conservative groups -- for "specialist team" treatment (mainly delays and excessive and inappropriate questions) in 2010 by pointing to the Citizens United decision that year allowing for unlimited, undisclosed fundraising by such groups. That´s the explanation IRS official Lois Lerner gave a week ago when she first revealed that the agency had improperly handled a slew of applications -- the political shorthand was a mistaken attempt to deal with a surge in applications.

Much has been said about the trouble with public-sector pensions. Many state and local plans are underfunded and, unless policy and accounting changes are undertaken, some major plans will run out of assets to pay benefits over the coming years. That means these plans will have to operate on a pay-as-you-go-basis, forcing budgetary tradeoffs and tax hikes. Public-sector pensions often come with legal guarantees. For instance, Illinois and New York offer a constitutional guarantee of promised benefits. Many other states offer statutory protections. That’s why economists make the case that pension benefits

Rarely has the White House briefing room so resembled the main ballroom at a meeting of Conservative Political Action Conference. When he woke up on Tuesday morning, White House press secretary Jay Carney probably thought that he would have to deal with querulous reporters pressing him on all fronts. Little did he know he’d really have to confront citizens bristling with anger over perceived encroachments on their rights by an overweening government. At times, Carney must have wondered whether he had wandered into a congressional town hall circa 2009 with himself in the role

What did President Obama do on the evening of 9/11/12 when our men were under attack in Benghazi? The invaluable Andrew McCarthy reminds us that Obama and Secretary Clinton had a 10:00 p.m. phone call of which many (including, I think, Chris Wallace) have lost sight. This morning when Wallace asked Obama aide Dan Pfeiffer what Obama was up to that evening, Pfeiffer declared the line of inquiry “offensive.” Translation: Obama and his minions would prefer to “move on” and are warning the likes of FNC off:(Snip for video)The Weekly Standard’s Daniel Halper has posted the rush transcript

WASHINGTON - There were new questions Saturday night concerning if anyone in the White House was aware of the IRS´ targeting of conservative groups. Inspector General Russell George said he informed a deputy at the Treasury Department in June of 2012 about the probe into the IRS. The Treasury Department confirmed the timeline but said they did not know the details of the investigation until last week.(Snip)Marcus Owens ran the tax-exempt division at the IRS for 10 years. It began in earnest last Friday. A flash mob of latte drinking, tofu eating media that has done its best to quell, rather than fan the flames of truth, turned on one of their own. Jay Carney lay bludgeoned at the base of the podium, a victim of friendly fire. Ironically, the attack was reminiscent of the one in Benghazi he has repeatedly denied the Administration he represents bears any responsibility for. “Changed twelve times?!” came the cries. And with good reason. We were misled; no, lied to.

In the wake of one of the worst abuses of government power in recent history, many are rushing to frame the Internal Revenue Service scandal as simply an attack on conservative activists. That view risks creating a partisan political football and misses a fundamentally scarier abuse that exceeds the scandals of Watergate or any other prior government abuse. The IRS has admitted that since May 2010 it targeted grassroots-conservative organizations that had applied for tax-exempt status, unfairly subjecting them to rigorous scrutiny due to their political leanings. Such groups were told they were required to comply with IRS requests,

Treasury Secretary Jack Lew on Friday urged congressional leaders to raise the debt limit and insisted that the White House is not going to negotiate over the increase because lawmakers have "no choice." "We will not negotiate over the debt limit," Lew wrote. "The creditworthiness of the United States is non-negotiable. The question of whether the country must pay obligations it has already incurred is not open to debate." Lew said that while President Obama is willing to discuss plans to reduce the nation´s deficit with Congress, those talks must be kept separate from any effort to raise the nation´s debt cap.
