| As America´s secretive but expanding drone program draws increasing scrutiny, some U.S. senators are floating the idea of an assassination court to determine whether to approve the remote-control killing of a suspected terrorist. The idea was discussed at Thursday´s confirmation hearing for CIA director nominee John Brennan, a supporter of the drone program, who called the idea of a court ´worthy of discussion.´ The program has been controversial as some say it offers the administration power to kill without any oversight or regulation, even if the person being assassinated is an American. Sen. Dianne Feinstein, D-Calif.

Comments: Now I´m having daymares to follow nightmares. Will the court want to see a target´s background check--which would reveal if he had a disadvantaged childhood or was spanked? /s

NO ! I am very concerned that the TEA party, or a group of conservatives, or religious group could be targeted just as easily. Heck, why not the Republican convention? I bet not a single democrat or liberal panel of judges would say no to that. This is a case where a bad guy MAY have to spared to protect the rest of American citizens. We cannot afford to trust this government.

Anything that involves Dianne Feinstein is going to be stupid beyond belief, as this is.
Stupid point 1: Assassination will become a common way to rid the government of dissenters, both foreign and domestic. The powermongers will become fascinated with the technology and want to use it.
Stupid point 2: If a real, legitimate target is spotted, he will be halfway around the world before these idiots get done discussing how and why he should be killed and after a call to Sean Penn.
Our plight is hopeless until #3´s solution is implemented.

The media once again is thoroughly confusing the issue. First of all, a lot of the knee jerk reaction is to the word drone. It implies that some soulless machine is killing people, a half-step away from Skynet. But, by definition, a drone has no pilot. These are not drones, they are remotely-piloted vehicles (RPVs). Second, let´s put ourselves in the wayback machine to World War II. If a US soldier had deserted and was in some German command post, actively providing intelligence and planning support, would US soldiers be unable to shoot at or shell the German camp without a judge´s approval? Would the air force be unable to bomb the German camp without a judge´s approval? Of course not. Now, there is a formal procedure for surrendering US citizenship -- appear before a US diplomat overseas and sign a formal declaration. But that´s to emphasize the seriousness of the action, and no judge is involved. I´d say that working for islamofascists is a pretty good de facto surrender of citizenship. If the MSM is afraid that they´ll go overseas and get a missile following them around, maybe they have a good reason. I don´t like scumbama having the power to do anything, but this isn´t about that maroon. It´s about the *war* on terror.

If we can just fight future wars with a committee of our betters and a swarm drones, we could get rid of most of our standing army and naval fleet. In this way, all that DoD money could be directed to entitlements ( vote buying ).

One more thing -- the lefties are upset about this because they view terrorists as civilian criminals, not military combatants. If conservatives align with the lefties on this, then they´re signing up, now and forever, to treat terrorists as criminals, not combatants.

We can remove the president, but not judges. Will there be judicial proceedings on individual enemy combatants? Will the enemy combatant have a court appointed attorney and adversarial proceedings, or will the judge´s opinion just be a substitute for the presidents, and the judge now the executive authority? This whole idea is nonsense.

People keep forgetting one little aspect of the entire argument
WE ARE NOT AT WAR!
When we are in a Declared War, this may be the thing to do. Until that time, I see this as a slippery slope to attack Anyone that is Declared a "threat" (by a definition that could easily be changed) to the .gov.
Either declare a war with whomever or get the he!! Out of these backwaters.
How can any of this be compared to WWII? Sorry I don´t see it. We are living Orwell´s Endless War.
This is just an endless Vietnam and guess what, they´ll have our daughters and granddaughters dying for ´the cause´ real soon.

"A confidential Justice Department memo concludes that the U.S. government can order the killing of American citizens if they are believed to be “senior operational leaders” of al-Qaida or “an associated force” -- even if there is no intelligence indicating they are engaged in an active plot to attack the U.S" Keywords: an associated force..which can mean whatever Obama wants it to mean. Reminder: Napalitano´s Homeland Security List of potential terrorists included returning Veterans from Iraq and Afghanistan, and the TEA party.

It might seem like the androgynous fashion trend taken too far, but a Chinese company’s new ‘hairy leg’ hosiery hopes to help women ward off unwanted male attention. A photograph posted to the Shanghai-based website ChinaSMACK shows a model from the waist down wearing the on-trend stockings. A caption below touts them as the perfect ´summertime anti-pervert´ device and ´essential for young girls going out’. It does not state where shoppers can find the garment and internet searches prove fruitless. The image of the tights has triggered hundreds of responses from amused and horrified viewers. ‘Damn, so disgusting!’ commented one.

The US will engage in its first formal direct talks with the Taliban on Thursday, according to officials, in a milestone on the road to peace after more than a decade of war. The first meeting will take place in Doha, the Qatari capital, after the Taliban opened their first official overseas office and Washington dropped its long-standing demand that the movement renounce ties with al-Qaeda. "The US will have its first formal meeting with the Taliban, and indeed first meeting with the Taliban for several years, in a couple of days in Doha," a senior official with

LE BOURGET, France—Boeing Co. won major orders from five customers for a stretched-out version of its popular 787 Dreamliner jet at the Paris Air Show Tuesday, further evidence of a strengthening market for more expensive long-haul jets. Boeing announced the formal launch of its 787-10 program at the Paris Air Show on Tuesday and says it already has commitments for 102 jets from five customers: Air Lease Corp., Singapore Airlines, United Airlines, International Airlines Group and GE Capital Aviation Services. The new 787-10 lists at $290 million, making the deal worth nearly $30 billion at full price, although customers often

Nato has handed over security for the whole of Afghanistan for the first time since the Taliban were ousted in 2001. At a ceremony in Kabul, President Hamid Karzai said that from Wednesday "our own security and military forces will lead all the security activities". Observers say the best soldiers in the Afghan army are up to the task but there are lingering doubts about some. International troops will remain in Afghanistan until the end of 2014, providing military back-up when needed. The ceremony came shortly after a suicide bomb attack in western Kabul killed three employees of the Afghanistan

Undercover video shot in May by a conservative activist shows two corporate distributors of free cell phones handing out the mobile devices to people who have promised to sell them for drug money, to buy shoes and handbags, to pay off their bills, or just for extra spending cash. The ´Obama phone,´ which made its ignominious YouTube debut outside a Cleveland, Ohio presidential campaign event last September, is a project of the Federal Communications Commission´s ´Lifeline´ program, which makes land line and mobile phones available to Americans who meet low-income requirements. Lifeline was a $2.19 billion program in 2012.

Amid a steady rise of backlash, Edward Snowden, the 29-year-old former National Security Agency contractor who was the source of a spring of leaks about the agency´s surveillance methods, conducted a live chat on The Guardian´s website Monday morning. Judging from some of the pointed questions he´s been asked and the reaction to newly leaked revelations over the past few days, it´s clear that much of the sympathy and support Snowden had built up for his early exposures is eroding. Many Americans supported his decision to leak information about a pair of National Security Agency surveillance programs, which, he detailed, gathered information

As NewsBusters reported last week, former Alaska Governor Sarah Palin called out vulgarian comedian Bill Maher for referring to her Down Syndrome son Trig as "retarded." On ABC´s The View Monday, co-host Barbara Walters astonishingly defended Maher saying, "I don´t think he intended it to be mean-spirited" (video follows with transcript and commentary): WHOOPI GOLDBERG: At a recent standup show in Las Vegas, comedian Bill Maher apparently called Sarah Palin’s five-year-old developmentally-challenged son Trig retarded. And Sarah blasted him on Twitter as a bully. Is that, is it, is he a bully? Is he a bad, what is he?

Five months into his second term, allies and enemies are as confounded as ever about who President Obama really is. Is he the dyed-in-the-wool liberal that his biggest supporters and critics suggest? Or is he a pragmatic, even cynical, politician who cares more for his popularity than taking risks for his ideological goals or living up to his rhetoric? Even in the short period since his reelection, Obama has provided evidence to support conflicting interpretations. His efforts to pass immigration reform, the unsuccessful push for stricter gun controls and tax hikes on high earners buttress the case for Obama-as-ideologue.

Jeb Bush says he’s not worried that his work toward comprehensive immigration reform and his ties to the GOP establishment will alienate conservatives and negatively impact a potential 2016 presidential campaign, referring to critics as “the chirpers.” “If I decide to run for office again, it will be based on what I believe, and it will be based on my record,” the former Florida governor said in an interview with the Christian Broadcasting Network’s David Brody. “And that record was one of solving problems completely from a conservative prospective.” Bush (R) pointed to his conservative

Is Marco Rubio, R-Fla., getting played by Sen. Chuck Schumer, D-N.Y.? During his interview with ABC’s Jonathan Karl this morning, Rubio didn’t even seem to understand what that meant. “Are you being played by the Democrats?” asked Karl. “Is Chuck Schumer playing you?” “I don’t — I quite frankly, I don’t even know what that means,” Rubio replied. “Is he using you?” Karl continued. “Is he using you to try to accomplish something that the Democrats want and is not — not a conservative bill?” Rubio responded that immigration reform was a bi-partisan issue that “all Americans

Charlie Rose last night asked President Obama his new Syria policy. The president first objected to it being called a new policy. "I´m not sure you can characterize this as a new policy. This is consistent with the policy that I´ve had throughout," he said. Obama then explained the goal is regional stability, and especially in Syria. "Really, what we´re trying to do is take sides against extremists of all sorts and in favor of people who are in favor of moderation, tolerance, representative government, and over the long-term, stability and prosperity for the people of Syria," said Obama.

Marco Rubio. Paul Ryan. The IRS. Illegal immigration. And fraud to the tune of billions.. Now there’s a combustible mix. Let’s start with the IRS, illegal immigration and fraud. We’ll come back in a minute to Senator Rubio and Congressman Ryan. For those who came in late, a year before the IRS scandals burst onto the scene in early May of 2013, an alert investigative reporter for WTHR-Indianapolis (Channel 13), Bob Segall by name, produced a stunning piece of journalism. Segall’s video report is found here and we will quote from his story for the basics.
